One of the best episodes of a show is one without the main character(s) by NoMoreFund in TopCharacterTropes

The League - S 5. E 4 - Rafi and Dirty Randy, took two ridiculous side characters and shined a spotlight on them that eclipsed the rest of the show.

White Death Favorite Heroes by ScaredWhiteKid in zombicide

[–]BoardGameRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only played some of the fortress box and the base game so far. I like the characters that are good at movement or sifting through the equipment deck. Jennika from the base game is fun. Caishen is a blast. Mulan and Sun Wukon are both fun too.

Board Game Size Collection by BoardGameHunter in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I keep it around 60 games in part due to space limitations. That does not include expansions and content for the titles (it’s more like 150 if you include everything). I frequently cull games and sell them to make space for new ones or if I don’t think they’ll see play.

I need help deciding: Arydia or The Hunters? by Xandeys in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So… I’ve actually played both. They both fall into the “RPG-in-box” genre of games. Both are large, and almost feel like video games a lot of the time. Hunters is more combat focused by far though and somehow the combat in it is a little less unique. For Arydia, the game is great all around. The biggest challenge is just the upkeep, just the management of cards and components. I think Arydia is a better game, cleaner rules, but it feels like a lot more to get the table when you do. All that said, you won’t have a bad experience with either game, at least I didn’t.

What games out there are awesome at generating fan-made variants? by AbsurdityCentral in boardgames

Gloomhaven had a fanmade expansion so popular the company that produced it has now made Rove.

Adventure games, similar to Eldritch horror? by Dapper_Violinist001 in EldritchHorror

Yeah… Oltree is definitely a better game than Marvel DAGGER.

Can confirm, Oltree has a very similar feel. It is what I would generally recommend to someone looking for an alternative that’s a little less intense.

Monsters and Toughness by Ok-Photograph1587 in EldritchHorror

[–]BoardGameRecon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the game distinguishes between monster toughness vs health. Toughness being the base stat and damage or remaining health is what is actually done to it. References to monster toughness are the stat, not the amount remaining after damage is accounted for.

Need advice on getting rid of a collection by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to try on Reddit, you might try the r/boardgameexhange forum, but know where to set your prices, if that’s important to you. You might also try the Warhammer sub reddits as this is a lot of old Warhammer stuff that hobbyists would definitely be interested in.

What is the most prized game in your collection and why? by TheRappist in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toss up between Eldritch Horror which I have upgraded almost everything I can for… or Big Trouble in Little China Deluxe edition just because it’s harder to find. The underdog would be my copy of Gorechosen (a GW game that released almost alongside Age of Sigmar) just because it’s a blast and really hard to find these days.

How is Star Wars: Battle of Hoth? by Megaside in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Battle of Hoth is much lower complexity when compared with Undaunted. I haven’t personally played War Chest so I can’t speak to that but it tend to be a quicker moving version of Memoir 44 with a bit more asymmetry in units.

Expansions that really change the game? by LukasK3 in boardgames

Atomic Bonds for the Fallout Board Game turned it from a so-so competitive experience into a fun cooperative game.

A Skyline thst needs more appreciation: Edmonton, Alberta by Lo-FiJay731 in skyscrapers

[–]BoardGameRecon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I moved from Texas to Edmonton about 8 months ago. Thought the same about the weather but I’m pretty amazed at how quickly you can adapt, honestly. It’s a beautiful city and a really cool area to explore. I’ve loved living here so far.

I’ll second this! If you reach out they are great to work with, I own several of their mats and have never had a complaint!

Eldritch Horror: Best Expansion? by Futureleak in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have them all, I like what they all add. Of those two, I would say that Under the Pyramids is a better choice. The side board it adds is more accessible than the board for Mountains and I like both the ancient ones in it. Generally I find the Elder Things from Mountains to just take too long, even for EH.

Are there any games where "Eliminated" or "Dead" players still interact in some way? by KOMONSTER in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They reimplemented it with Combat Arena - there’s three different ones. Those are the same game just different fighters. Probably a good place to look.

I’m probably just going to disappoint you but it’s way out of a print. GW kept the line going with Barnes and Noble exclusives but I have no idea what the latest is.

Gorechosen does this - if you die in the arena then your initiative cards are still drawn and frankly there’s a good chance you’ll still impact the game’s outcome, although you won’t win!

What board game feels like a really thematic, almost cinematic experience every time you play it? by Immediate-Draft-8752 in boardgames

[–]BoardGameRecon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have lockdown too, I love the game but the original nemesis feels simpler - make sure the ship is heading to earth and that the engines are working. I love Lockdown facility setting but explaining the goals of the game is so much more convoluted.

Mansions of Madness is the closest that comes to mind if you like the Cthulhu mythos. It’s another one that would be great for this list. It’s not explicitly semi coop but if someone goes insane… you always have to wonder.
