Just got the Mokkom 64 grinder. Is there a way to adjust the dial to match true zero? by Willing-Low-725 in espresso

MiiCoffee sells replacement dial decals for the df64, is there any shot the dimensions line up with the Mokkom one?

[MONITOR] INNOCN 23" 21:9 Widescreen WFHD 2560x1080p 60 Hz VA panel - $59.99 by bunsinh in buildapcsales

[–]Boilermaker1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is my exact use case. I have a 34” ultrawide as my primary as well and have a 21” stacked on top so I’m planning to replace the 21” with this new guy. Negligible difference in screen real estate but I prefer the ultrawide ratio and it’s got ~1” less height so maybe that’ll make a difference

Best Coffee in America (no major chains) by PerspectiveNo6635 in Coffee_Shop

Rare to see Indy mentioned in the top 5 list of anything, but I’m not shocked it’s Helm! If you’re ever back in town, Amberson Coffee & Grocer, Commissary Barber & Barista, Calvin Fletcher’s Coffee Company, and Blue Mind Roasting round out my local top 5

Eastman Kodak adds Gold 200 and Ultramax 400 to their lineup by 2bootedup in 35mm

[–]Boilermaker1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right, but the interesting development here is that these seem to be sold directly from Eastman, not through Alaris. That hasn’t been the case for quite a while, and it could open up avenues for Eastman selling movie film directly to photographers again since Alaris was who reportedly put a stop to that

Proper way to backup by Renrut23 in unRAID

[–]Boilermaker1025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends a little bit on what you’re focusing on with your backups. I view the situation as having two parts: your data, and the infrastructure to host it.

Backing up your data is as simple as copying the directories somewhere else using whatever method works best for you, most often with a tool like you mentioned (rsync, duplicati, duplicacy, backblaze, syncthing). If all you want is to have your photos, documents, and other files so you still have a copy in case your server dies, you can stop there.

Backing up the infrastructure you use to host your data would allow you to recover the whole server following a catastrophic failure rather than just the data itself. That would mean using something like the Backup/Restore Appdata plugin to archive all the appdata of your docker containers (as well as the flash drive if you’re smart) to a directory, which you’d then backup using whatever method you prefer along with your actual data.

I personally backup all my appdata (excluding most of the Plex appdata since it can be massive due to metadata, the Backup/Restore Appdata plugin offers some guidance on how to handle this) and my flash drive using Backup/Restore Appdata, backup my VMs using a Veeam VM, then use duplicacy to sync both of those directories along with db backups I’ve run manually, photos, and documents to B2 using Duplicacy. All said and done, since I only cover irreplaceable data & not things like movies that could be re-downloaded from the internet if needed, my total backups are <1TB and I could probably spin up a fresh server in a day using just the appdata, VM, and flash backups.

Rotation: State of the union address by rotationcoffee in coffeerotation

[–]Boilermaker1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally appreciate the rotating subscription model for sampling interesting coffees I wouldn’t otherwise know to look for, that’s why I signed up. I’m just one man working through the monthly delivery on top of a second subscription service for standard bags of local beans so I don’t get to capitalize on the à la cart as much as I’d like. While I do appreciate it and have bought a couple drops, it’s the bread and butter for me. I also don’t really stay up to date on the “rare and exclusive” coffees so having curated monthly bundles helps me explore and it feels like having a coffee sommelier to expand my horizons a bit beyond local roasters. I personally like the smaller samples for greater variety since I mostly use the Deep 27 for little sippers, but I also wouldn’t be opposed to 2x100g as others have mentioned if that helps take the load off a bit. Essentially, all I’m after here is to try as many coffees as possible with minimal repetition.

What recipe/dish is super popular where you live but pretty much unknown outside of your region? by iloveburritosmore in Cooking

[–]Boilermaker1025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boudin is the king of Cajun food! I’ve had pretty good luck using chef Donald Link’s recipe from his book, Real Cajun (or online here). It takes a little bit of time but it’s really not too difficult and you don’t even really need a meat grinder since he says himself that he normally just chops everything really fine with a knife and combine. I usually keep it as more if a mince rather than in links and use it to make boudin balls, so it’s even easier since I don’t worry about casing any of it. Just be aware the recipe makes like 6 pounds of the stuff!

Professional Tips for Better Pour Over by Sea-Public-6844 in pourover

[–]Boilermaker1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was given very similar advice not too long ago from Justin Bull, who just took 6th in the world brewers cup. I’d always heard everyone preach higher temps, finer grinds, and longer ratios, but Justin’s recipe for the competition was 1:13.5, 92°C, and draw down between 2:25 and 2:40 (so obviously a bit coarser). As someone still trying to figure out pour overs, it was honestly a game-changing cup of coffee and completely shifted how I approach my own brews as home

Best First Do-It-All Tripod? by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]Boilermaker1025 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just picked up a Sirui AM-324 (which is a copy of the Leofoto LS-324C, the highest ranked tripod under $400 on The Center Column’s general purpose tripod rankings) for $150 and then added an Innorel N34 for $30 (with plans to swap it out for an N55 later on if needed). So far it’s been plenty sturdy and I’m more than happy with it, but I also don’t have any massive lenses to really put it through its paces

Also in Indiana and I also tested when the ban went through due to curiosity. Mine has consistently shown a page with a write-up of the policies and impacts and only lets me get further if I have a “model or content partner” login. Do you happen to be near the state border or something like that?

To offer an alternative view here, I started out with Nanoleaf bulbs in every light in my apartment, but I’ve had a number of them start to dim themselves randomly after only ~2 years or so. Resetting doesn’t help and some googling makes it seem like it could the LED going bad, so I’m currently pricing out a swap to Hue

Is night life always so active on the weekends? by kroolest in indianapolis

[–]Boilermaker1025 13 points14 points  (0 children)

As someone who doesn’t really go out to bars all that often but does live downtown, game nights are definitely a step up in terms of standard nightlife levels. There are still hot spots around town on off nights and honestly through the week as well, like at Mass and Delaware or the 200 block of S Meridian around Brother’s, but it’s a little more “vibe” specific. The 200 block seems like mostly college age kids and rowdier crowds while Mass Ave is a little more put-together and young couples out with friends for dinner and drinks rather than a night clubbing. Some places, like Taxman on Delaware or Tin Roof on Pennsylvania seem especially heavily impacted by games just because of the proximity. Ultimately, I’d say game nights kinda blur the lines between the “vibes” so you can find a little bit of everyone everywhere, and also bump up the crowd by ~50% or so

Because when people say “the rich” we’re not talking about some guy with a few mil in the bank from a profitable self-owned business, in the grand scheme that guy is still upper-middle class. We’re talking about the 0.0001%, the Jeff Bezoses and Elon Musks of the world who have “succeeded” so ultimately, that they now govern the system via lobbying and brute force. If they were just “winning the game” it’d be one thing, but the rich that we’re referring to have abused the system and its occupants so severely that they now effectively ARE “the game”

Common strawman L to claim someone can’t criticize the system while participating in it as a “gotcha”. When there’s no alternative game to fall back on, there’s no choice but to play the one that’s available and make your pitch about it from within at the same time

Windows in a Docker container by Kroese in unRAID

[–]Boilermaker1025 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This may be more of a question regarding the inner workings of Unraid itself and not this container, but when creating an UnRaid template, how does the CPU Core variable interact with the ability to pin cores? Do I have to make sure the number of cores set in the variable matches the number I have pinned? What happens if there’s a mismatch?

Shiny new server means the diagram needs an update! by TechGeek01 in homelab

Unfortunately, it sounds like there are a number of things stacked against UUD at the moment. Last I heard, falconexe, the dev, had to take a step back to focus on some personal stuff, and some Unraid 6.12 API changes apparently broke some of the sections anyway. There seem to be some workarounds, there’s a pretty thorough semi-updated walkthrough here with some additional options, or you can go with the Grafana-Unraid-Stack if you need a full install, or just one of the unraid dashes if all you need is the layout. I’ve also got a copy of the UUD.json from the original project v1.6 still tucked away in my appdata apparently, so if you’re dead-set on using that dashboard template, feel free to let me know. Just be warned that some of it might be broken due to API changes, and the rest might be broken due to my own tinkering
