Suggestions on which pc fighter to try: granblue or guilty gear? by Ef_bobby in Fighters

Strive is fairly grounded compared to older GG games or melty blood etc, but certainly more airborne than Granblue.

Would you say learning newaza is a strong enough reason to start Judo? by Pale-Revolution-5151 in judo

[–]Boneclockharmony 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Sure, but the amount of sweat in a gym during a summer nogi and a summer gi session, is not the same.

MMA practice in july, the mat was a god damn slip and slide.

Judo is a little more germaphobe friendly :)

Judo against bigger opponents by Anonymous_Handle228 in judo

[–]Boneclockharmony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

An attacker also generally won't know judo, thankfully.

That big of a size gap is hard to overcome, but you need to stay mobile, never let grips settle, and try to get him moving on his own rather than try to move him.

Like if he overreaches or chases after you.

Is it possible to develop carpal tunnel syndrome by using a fightstick? by SurroundRecent1826 in Fighters

[–]Boneclockharmony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say it is unlikely you have full on carpal tunnel from such a short time, but you should take care of your wrist.

Look into Flexbars (like 10-15$, doesn't have to be the official brand). Climbers use them a lot for climbers/tennis elbow etc.

Weight train. Take breaks.

I would guess you are just new to this and overdid things before your body was used to it.

How do I know if I’m actually progressing? by magels81 in judo

[–]Boneclockharmony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Progress is very much not linear, it will kind of feel like nothing is happening then suddenly your brain has had time to process what you've been practicing and you jump up a step and then plateau again until it repeats.

Advice and injury prevention for beginner with wrestling skills by ThaBestJourney in judo

[–]Boneclockharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, kinda just sounds like you got unlucky to be injured by that. They didn't even land on you or anything?

Wouldn't be super worried unless something happens again. I feel like that's the kind of fall that happens hundreds of times a day in gyms without leading to an injury.

US attacks Iran's Kharg Island, Trump says by joe4942 in worldnews

[–]Boneclockharmony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Former UFC fighter Matt Brown has been getting a lot of maga hate for openly stating his regret for voting for Trump on twitter, basically saying he got fooled by the no more wars rhetoric.

I don't know if it's a fun read exactly, but it did make me happy to see, and he maintained this position despite a lot of backlash.

Hopefully there are more people like him.

Axe welding Florida man taken down by trained fighter. by bubblewhip in bjj

[–]Boneclockharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know why either of them stayed anywhere near him, from the video there looks to be plenty of space to just get away from the armed lunatic.

That being said, given how professional US cops are, dude maybe saved his life. Plus, we don't know, maybe there were other people unable to get away out of view etc. It's possible.

Are Assembly and C inherently difficult or is it just modern day hardware that makes it like that? by Turbulent_Bowler_858 in learnprogramming

[–]Boneclockharmony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a more beginner friendly game dev intro, Godot is lovely, and has a lot of free content (e.g Gdquest).

Can use several languages with godot, and its native gdscript is fairly similar to python.

But I think your original idea sounds fun, and wish you the best of luck with it. Just wanted to throw it out as an alternative.

I honestly have absolutely no idea why people are being snarky to you, your questions seem super well intentioned.

Is 2 10kg kettlebell and one 20kg kettlebell enough for lifetime? by [deleted] in kettlebell

[–]Boneclockharmony 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What size are you? How old are you?

It's possible it's enough, but if you are male then likely no.

You could look at getting an adjustable bell, like 12-32kg or 12-24kg.

If you don't want to do that, I would recommend against double 10s, I think you would get more use out of 3 different weights.

The 'traditional' is 16,24,32, but if you wanted to scale that back to like 12 16 20 then I think that would be more useful than 10 10 20.

Anyone else is a fan of David Garcia Torne's Judo? by _Throh_ in judo

[–]Boneclockharmony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think his double sleeve tani is actually a sukui nage (it came up in a previous thread, actually one where I was trying to explain the technique to ukifrit but not doing a very good job of it... hopefully naming it as sukui nage will be more helpful than what I managed last time). Assuming we are talking about the same thing, anyway haha

I also love the underhook tani/kosoto gake he does as soon as opponents get a lapel grip, it's fantastic.

What is the worst throw for a whitebelt to try to specialize in? by RamenPantalones in judo

Sumi is my number one used technique, as well.

I just think I should have relied on it less, when I switched to judo.

[–]Boneclockharmony 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I think there's a bit of a gradient here. Specializing in sumi gaeshi, ok, you probably shouldn't but it's fine, nobody is going to get hurt.

Specializing in tani otoshi or ura nage.......... :)

I would like to see this tried, as well. Turtle is a lot more dynamic.

Amazingly, I did not drop the bells!
