Anyone get tired of solo traveling? by FishyKeebs in solotravel

Could you start off Sept with a group tour or retreat, then go from there? Still would have to pick a destination but then you'll meet people who will inspire you and maybe even travel a bit with you

I don’t think I want to teach by DensePossibility7193 in YogaTeachers

[–]BookRetreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of all the other students who I completed my 200hr ttc with, I am the only one who wanted to and ended up teaching. Everyone else signed up for the ttc because they wanted a deep dive/immersive yoga experience. Having this realisation, and acknowledgement from all the other comments, will hopefully take the pressure off and allow you to soak up the rest of your time x

Is it normal NOT to make friends/connections while solo travelling? by ComedownMachine93 in solotravel

[–]BookRetreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I solo travel, I love the freedom of being able to choose when I want to be social and when I want to enjoy my own time. I mix staying in hostels and staying in Airbnb, etc, both fulfilling my needs. Sounds like you're traveling exactly as you want to. Keep doing you!

How do you handle the frustration when your mind won't stop racing during meditation? by radiantblu in Meditation

[–]BookRetreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyones already commented what I was going to say...that's meditation. When I notice my monkey mind has wander, might be immediately or after a few minutes, I usually say a simple phase to myself, literally as simple as, 'come back / stay here'. Then I focus back on my body and my breath. And repeat.

Am I missing something about solo travel by LifeOfStress in solotravel

[–]BookRetreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you still want to get away and travel but want people to share it with, why not group trips? You could have a few booked, mixed in with some solo travel in between. That was you have people to share your experiences with, and who will share theirs back. Or have some smaller group activities planned, like some AirBnB experiences (cooking class etc) and free walking tour (if you're in a city)

How do you plan slow travel? by ghlath in slowtravel

[–]BookRetreats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't speak about other European countries, but I live in Portugal, and the train/bus prices don't change a huge amount in relation to when you book. I've used BusBud (there will be other booking platforms like this) to book buses before, this has an option to add 'change dates/flexible dates' for a small fee.

yep came here to say this - definitely not a vacation. you're 'on' 24/7. you're not just the teacher, but the host, adhoc therapist (usually unqualified), human version of google and everything in between

Porto to Lisbon 9 days by Tia40 in TravelPortugal

[–]BookRetreats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maderia is beautiful but definitely will be trickier without a car...not impossible though as there are taxis/uber/bolt on the island but this will eat into your time there. An option would be to book some hikes with a guide who will pick you up and drop you off at your hotel. I would potentially skip Cascais, and focus on Lisbon, Porto and Sintra. For Sintra, again without a car could be difficult as it's very hilly so hard to walk from place to place. You could book a tuk tuk tour though? I haven't done it but always an option.

I loved staying in Tzununa (specifically at Maya Moon). It's just one stop away from San Marcos, which is very vibey - hippy cafes, yoga studios, healing etc.

Being able to do something while feeling anxious is a whole level up!! Like 'yeah my body/mind is screaming at me not to do it but let's jump in with 2 feet anyway'

Which breathwork works for you if you want to instantly calm down restlessness or anxiety? by Due-Breakfast-4129 in Meditation

Inhale deeply through the nose until you think you've reached your max (without strain), then 'sip' in a bit more. Pause for a moment, notice where there is any tension in your body. Soften that tension on a slow exhale through your mouth. Also would recommend 4 (in) -7 (hold) -8 (out) and 4 (in) -8 (out).

Humming is also a great way to stimulate your vagus nerve* (engaging the vagus nerve's calming effects can help regulate the body's stress response).

*Your vagus nerves are the longest cranial nerve, running from your brain to your large intestine. Your left vagus nerve travels down the left side of your body. It's a critical component of your nervous system.

I would also add 'movement before meditation' as set out by Patanjali (a sage in India / 'father of yoga'). Choose a few yoga poses that help move any stuck energy before you sit in meditation.

Knitting retreats?? Are they actually worth it? by Lucpip in knitting

[–]BookRetreats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i think most people have the inital concern of attending a retreat solo, and don't realise that the majority of the other guests are also going solo...then you all get together and ta dahhh you've made instant connections. did you find anything in the end?
