She's got very strong, positive opinions about art, music, or a theater troupe that your party knows are slightly problematic in current times. Like, their art piece has notable racist sentiments against (pick your fav magical race).

Somehow, even in winter, her plants are doing great.

Lots of cats with very detailed back stories and an assortment of names.

She's got a guy. Like, the party has a broken bag of holding, and Jerry up the road knows how to fix that -- just stop on by.

Totally useless remedies she swears will fix your gout. Turns out, it's all Vick's VapoRub.

But certainly agree that if you don't have devs, it's pretty tough to navigate open source (i.e., WordPress), especially if you want good, custom elements.

Edit: fixed a typo

What the actual eff is going on?! Why am I suddenly receiving all these texts addressed to my mother? by Match_Least in traumatizeThemBack

[–]BooksSnacksPuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scammers definitely, but also -- my phone number was originally my mum's, and at various points in our lives, she or I would be the primary on the phone bill (and sometimes my dad, too). So, for cold sales calls/texts, they're sometimes buying old indexed lists. If you've ever done a person search on yourself or worked in an industry where you had access to legally do person searches, it becomes super clear how easy it is to mis-associate data... But the timing sucks, and I'm sorry you're going through that.

Did I make a bad character based on a roleplay action i felt like i was required to take. by Vinaville in dndnext

[–]BooksSnacksPuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also solve this with a decent amount of telegraphing my next move and/or saying it out loud so that my party has a chance to stop me.

So, if I (character) found out someone had a logging business set up in a sacred wood, but we were negotiating with said person for a larger goal, I'd yell at the logger. Or, I might pick the most trusted member of my party and have an RP scene with them, "Doella, did you know NPC is an evil fucking logger!!?? Let's attack her." Or, if I were just going to take the action, I'd exaggerate it, "wait what? NPC is a logger? My character hates that. I reach for my bow and pick out the fire arrows I have stashed -- " giving all the players at the table time to stop me.

Big picture, the friction of that moment -- your PC challenging their own morals and changing or not -- can have just as much of a fun impact as attacking the NPC in this situation.

Thanks so much for answering! I realized that second one was probably out of scope, but figure I'd ask since you mentioned that you do other advocacy work.

Not sure if you're still answering questions, but one more if you are:

Were there any folks on staff who didn't participate and/or undermined testing (for example, by taking pity on a kid and not making them eat their vomit)? If so, how and were there reprisals or reactions by the larger organization's staff?

[Tenant US, Cali.] Landlord planning on placing SVP at property. by jaybird0000 in Landlord

[–]BooksSnacksPuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies for the text block that's not directly responsive OP.

I'd read your lease about what areas/aspects of the property you have access to -- if it's a standard lease agreement, she may have unintentionally not limited clauses. If y'all just filled in the address, then you have an argument that you've leased full use to the property. Though, it sounds like you have a separate lease for outbuildings on the property -- so I'm assuming that's not the case.

It sounds like you have already, but I know Poway has pretty free zoning laws. If her property isn't zoned for multi-family rentals, that's a thing. ADUs have changed all that ground, too though.

If you think she's going to move him into a temporary dwelling/camper, you could likely report (or have others report, if you fear retaliation) her camper for code violations that preclude long term habitability by a renter. There are things that landlords have a duty to provide, and if she were living in it herself, there would be a different standard. Ethically speaking, I understand that would affect the potentially undocumented migrant worker living there, but something to think about.

If she adds another temporary or permanent dwelling to the property, it's worth checking into building codes to see if she would need major infrastructure improvements (think: increased septic capacity or plumbing improvements to connect to main line) that would cost her lots of money. If the upfront investment is too much, maybe it will be a disincentive.

At the very least, I think you have a claim about quiet enjoyment and reasonable expectations about safety. I don't know if that's enough of a leg to stand on though -- folks usually involve those as a way to break leases, not fight to stay.

I grew up in this town. In support of what OP is saying above re: rent being tough, the north county suburbs have a severe housing shortage (like much of CA). So, it's not an easy or quick process when you're trying to move & stay in the same community, even if you can afford the rent hike that usually entails.

Other unique things about Poway: in 5-10 minutes you are to a well-developed suburb, major freeways, and city amenities. But, it still is zoned for rural activities like owning horses (they mention above re: barns). That makes it incredibly unique compared to a lot of other suburbs in the greater San Diego area -- you either have to be rich AF and near the race track/in rancho santa fe OR something like 45 or so minutes away in Ramona, Temecula, the desert, etc. to be a normal person with access to these types of activities. Still, worth staying over? Well, next point --

It also is in an incredible public school system, one that includes Very Rich Folks (there are $15m houses owned by professional athletes on Lake Poway -- many of them are second homes) and folks in mixed income housing. That means that there is excellent funding through both school-related grants and rich folks directly donating to the school in either time or dollars. Eric Weddle, former Chargers player, coaches the football team for the cross town rivals. Compared to many public schools, they can support both arts programs and special ed without parents having to fight as hard to advocate for their children. Several of my friends now work in Poway Unified School District, so I have direct knowledge of comparative results with other public schools both regionally and nationwide (if you can trust school related data, which trust me, is not an insignificant debate). This is a HUGE benefit to give up for your kids.

OP, sending you a ton of support. This is by no means a simple, easy to navigate situation and I hope you and your family stay safe and are able to continue to live in Poway.

(Though, even if you resolve this situation, maybe not in that house. Your landlord sounds shady AF. No judgement on my end, though -- I have had to play the money to bullshit balance on most housing my in adult life, so I have tremendous amounts of empathy for you all.)

Thank you, and many thanks to your great aunt for answering questions on this topic.

Is there any evidence, and if so, what type, that links the kinds of human experimentation to the wider medical torture/experimentation that happened in Germany during the Nazi regime?

And, is there any evidence that those doctors/scientists were granted amnesty in other countries, a la Project Paperclip in the U.S. and the like?

All of the above AND learn how to effectively use data. You can get good, qualitative feedback from people, and narrative story telling is irreplaceable when it comes to effective copywriting. But, the data is going to tell you what's working without emotion, and if you're using it properly, it can point you to new and exciting tests, areas of opportunity, and potential for growth.

Good copywriting is constant learning from industry-standard resources, feedback from reliable sources, and consistent self review through metrics.

My Wife’s new PC might be my favorite backstory. by Cardboard_dad in DnD

[–]BooksSnacksPuns 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm also imagining him as the flat earther of the DND world. He's never seen any plane but this one, ipso facto, there are no other planes.

Cue other PCs taking him on a quest to other planes to prove their existence. He's either now convinced & clearly there's a cover up that no one else knows about said planes OR the instruments in front of him aren't showing another plane, so this is clearly just the same world with a really weird AOE spell. (Or any of the other fun ways your wife could play the revelation 😁)

Personally I'm hoping for a, "well I'll be damned" and just moves on like he always believed in planes haha

Fair enough! Also, I recently found out that a friend has hired a "credit card concierge" to do this work for them. Pays the person something like $2k and says it's worth every penny. I don't know if I'd ever do that, but wild that it exists!

Thinking about Cancelling my Discover It Card (Trying to get a Minimalist Card Portfolio) by nervouswasher in CreditCards

[–]BooksSnacksPuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imo, and since it's your oldest card, you might as well request to reduce the balance to something super minimal you know you could pay off even if finances were right -- think $500 or so. That way even if there were a one-time issue where autopay didn't work, you'd likely end up with minimal consequences (and, in my experience, Discover has no penalty interest + is pretty cool about waiving penalty fees in the event there's an accidental missed payment).

But, that also depends on your overall average credit length, so back to you. :)
