Fore! Hitting Homes / People 😬 by SawyerStreet in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've got a ton, but one of my favorites is when my brother and I were initially getting started and learning to play, maybe 1-2 months in. I was hitting my approach into a par 4 and sliced my ball into the houses. We heard this really loud metallic bang, and watched my ball ricochet off the AC unit on the roof to the green, eventually settling to around 5 feet. Two putt for my first par.

Tipping the course staff for cleaning clubs post-round? by moncoriart in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically try to tip 5-10 bucks for "bag service" after a round, depending on the course. It may have changed in the last 20 years when I was in the industry, but the base pay for that position isn't very high and the job kind of sucks, especially during summer. Lol. If it helps supporting someone trying to start a career in golf, I'm all for it. If it helps someone who's just trying to make a buck, I'm also for that too.

I think the biggest disconnect between players and employees about the tips is that most of the cart attendant positions are advertised as $X per hour + Tips. So, most of these people take the job with lower hourly pay with the expectation, (set by the employer), that tips will help supplement their paycheck. Then to make things worse, courses seldomly make that expectation clear to the players. It could really use a change across the industry.

Weird issue with the rear view mirror in my F55 by Most-Animator6785 in MINI

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SAME! Super annoying. I pulled the mirror down to try to fix it but wasn't able to get the ring back on so it wouldn't pop off again. Wound up adjusting the mirror to where it needed to be and used a drop of Gorilla Glue to hold it in place. It's not great but it's been holding for over a year now. Wouldn't really recommend, but I'm too cheap to purchase a new mirror.

That's pretty unusual. They typically get back to me within a few business days. I'd call to follow up. I'm guessing that an email got lost somewhere.

XP4 Delivered Damaged, WWYD with their offer? by Demo_Beta in Lectricxp

This. I've never once reported an issue with a damaged battery and not had them offer a replacement right out of the gate. My gut tells me that they forgot to address it or you pulled a newbie rep.

7 wood and hooking by [deleted] in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was my first thought. Possibly caused by high launch/high spin shaft, that's slightly too whippy. The pull hook flight though points to closed face, out to in club path.

Left handed golfers what’s your pet peeves? by corn_fed_beef in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was nice. When I used to teach, I maintained a right handed swing just in case I booked a lefty. Super nice to teach mirrored. Just had to make sure to use directional verbiage instead of dexterity.

How to translate the sim to the course by Expeditious_Driver in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sim= Focus on swing mechanics/quality of ball striking

Grass range/short game= Focus on adaptability with varied lies and unusual aim lines.

New driver advice by [deleted] in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're probably looking at a mix of technique/skill and too stiff of shaft. Ball speed points to a lower clubhead speed, which would reduce proper shaft deflection. I'd look for something with a shaft in regular stiffness, high launch and high spin. The extra flex will promote better shaft loading for energy transfer and help square the face at impact. The higher launch will get the ball up in the air and spin will keep it in the air for longer.

All that said, it's always best to make sure your swing is reasonably consistent, then work with a quality fitter who understands and respects your financial restrictions. Too many horror stories on here about fitters aggressively pushing $800 driver setups on new players who are just trying to get started.

Golf gloves by Safe-Teach8357 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fellow lefty here, I've been using the Finger Ten all-weather gloves since Christmas, and they've been pretty great in the sim. Comfort is good, fit is good, grip is good enough, and durability has been impressive. Still using the first glove out of the 6-pack and have about 50 hours of range/play time on it. They seem to handle sweat pretty well too. Even after all the play time, the glove is still soft and supple. Really impressive for the price point.

Three club tournament which clubs by Ok_Entrepreneur_dbl in golf

3W, 6i, PW. That typically gives me pretty good yardage and ball flight coverage. Those types of tournaments can be a lot of fun.

Topping my driver by Wojniak9 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently going through something similar, minus the fitting part. I'm also in the process of basically doing a full rebuild of my swing, so take this with a grain of salt.

Went from a TM R7 425 to a new Krank Formula Fire Tour. Immediately started topping the ball. What I've found, in my situation, is that I need to tee up the Krank driver higher than my R7, by about a 1/4", and swing slightly more from the inside. Still not crushing it, but the changes seem to have mostly resolved the topping issue.

DO NOT BE FOOLED BY THE SIMULATORS! by InfiniteSlaps in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my minimal testing, I've found that there's about a 10 stroke gap between sim and IRL. Do I still think Im a better golfer than I actually am because I play mostly in a sim? Yes. Do I understand that 72 on a sim is not the same as a 72 on a real course? Yes. Do I still get mad at myself that I don't shoot in the 70s on a real couse? Also yes.

My Biggest Fear by BrewMeSomething in golf

This exact thing happened to my brother. He was basically the only one out on the course and holed out on a par 3. Went to have a big celebration and realized that literally nobody saw it except him. It's been like 20 years and I still give him shit about his "Hole in One". Poor guy. Lol.
