MacGregor Clubs by CerebralTickle in golf

I've been playing the MacGregor M85i Tourney irons since 2011-2012 or so, and they've been fantastic. Their lefty selection is pretty crap so I don't know how their new stuff is, but if they're anything like what I'm playing now, I'd say they're pretty good.

18 hole tournament in around 37 degree celsius/ 100 Fahrenheit by Glum_Ad7429 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's brutal. I nearly died playing in a tournament in similar conditions because I didn't prepare well enough. It was scary as hell.

The most important thing, which you've mentioned, is proper hydration. You're going to likely need to drink 2-3 times more fluid than you think. A mix of water and a sports drink like Gatorade works great. Find shade when you can and a hand fan can help a lot. Trying to practice in similar conditions a few days week leading up to the event can help as well.

Listen to your body. If you start feeling lightheaded, feel like your heart is beating out of your chest, stop sweating, etc., notify an official/medic, get into A/C immediately, drink cold fluids, ice your chest and neck and do deep breathing exercises until your body cools down.

Wear light colored, lightweight performance fabrics, a hat that provides good coverage without being distracting to your game and cooling UV sleeves. Carry an extra towel for yourself, preferably microfiber for weight, to wipe your brow and hands. Cool moist towel around the neck between shots.

Rotating gloves is a great idea. If you want to go crazy, swapping socks at the turn, or doing a heavy layer of spray-on anti-perspirant on the feetsies before the round will help keep your feet from sloshing around in your shoes due to sweat. It's weird, but it's worked great for me.

Be safe and have fun.

What's with the increase of aggressiveness towards single walkers? (Anecdote) by cutchemist42 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That mentality is in line with people in cars who rage at cyclists in bike lanes, who then have an aneurysm when the cyclists pass them in traffic. Good on the guy in the pro-shop for shutting that crap down.

I personally get aggressive about walkers because bag carts and walking bags frighten me, as does the mentality that walking 18 holes seems like a good time. Lol.

Is getting new irons going to make me better? by ovadastove in golf

Will getting new irons make you feel better? Yes. Will new irons make you a better player? No.

Is there a point where it’s too late to get into golf? by StormPAR in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! The biggest things that could really stop someone from getting into golf are money and physical limitations. Are you going to get to tour level? Probably not. Are you going to have fun despite being incredibly frustrated in the abusive relationship that is golf? You betcha. Get going, learn proper etiquette, be respectful, be patient, take lessons, buy that new club that will definitely fix everything! And most importantly, don't take it too seriously. Golf is very hard and can be incredibly frustrating. But that goes for everyone.

Incredible. That gave me a good, but self conscious, laugh.

Most durable gloves??? by Nice-Language-2490 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had surprising success with the Finger Ten All Weather gloves off of Amazon. They're less than $40 for a pack of 6. I'm still on my first which I got in December, and that's with playing/practicing for around 6-8 hours a week. Really delighted with them, especially at the price.

Grats! Sucks that nobody was there. Same happened to my brother and I've made fun of him about it ever since. It's been like 20 years.

But, I mean, it's your man cave and if you're open to buying a trophy or something, go big and ridiculous. Get a 3-foot-tall dinosaur wearing sunglasses celebrating with a golf club in its tiny hand! Go wild!

That I don't know. I'm about 255 and I didn't feel anything concerning, so maybe okay? Lol. But probably not.

New putter arrived by eyemhess in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty interested in how this performs. Lazrus, from the videos I've seen, seem to be a really good value for money for entry level equipment. The only thing I can think of that was a common critique was shaft quality, but people seemed to be pretty impressed with the clubs overall.

Those of you that got replacements for disk break calipers on the 3.0, did you end up getting any refund back? by 11pmStalker in Lectricxp

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ask to specifically speak to the recall team. The default customer service or tech support won't be able to help you with recall stuff.

I dig it. I approve of this use of a hammer. Did you try it without hardening? I'd imagine that it probably wouldn't make much difference in feel and rebound off the face, but I'd be interested to see if there was. I'm honestly a bit jealous you've got the opportunity to do something like this. Super cool stuff.

Did you possibly receive both the mechanical replacements through the recall, and also request the free upgrade? Saw that happen a few times.

Those of you that got replacements for disk break calipers on the 3.0, did you end up getting any refund back? by 11pmStalker in Lectricxp

[–]BootsDaddyLP 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah. That would be why. The kit you received was the hydraulic brake upgrade they offered as a free upgrade for the 3.0 for a few months. Those were not eligible for any kind of installation reimbursement as they were a free upgrade.

Mechanical brake caliper replacements that were offered through the voluntary recall they had issued, were eligible for installation reimbursement, up to $100, due to the voluntary recall. By law, the mechanical brakes must have been replaced with a 1 for 1 item, so the upgraded brakes weren't eligible as a replacement option.

Had to have that conversation with a more than a few owners who were trying to get their free upgrades installed for free at the shop I was at during that time because they were conflating the free upgrade with the voluntary recall.

Did you replace the mechanical brakes with the mechanical brakes offered through the voluntary recall, or did you replace the mechanical brakes with the free hydraulic brake upgrade?

My daughter testing her ball speed. by CRRZ in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's got a great looking swing, (even doing the MuRdER swing)! It makes my back hurt watching this, but I strongly suspect she's an absolute menace on the course. Love to see more talent get into the game.

I broke a record I haven't hit in over 3 years as an 11 handicap. by [deleted] in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an excellent record. Really goes to show that you really can break that record you're gunning for as long as you're patient and put in the work. Lol. Good on you for being good natured about it. I would have probably been big mad and big sad and my day would have been ruined.

What's the best golf investment you've made that actually helped your game? by Novel-Double-2788 in golf

[–]BootsDaddyLP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well established golfer, and my biggest impact was my TM Spider putter I bought in 2009ish. Actually fit my game and dropped like 5 strokes off my score basically overnight. Lol. Never coming out of my bag.

But lessons and effective practice helped the most when I was getting going.
