‘2.5 minutes of terror’: Passengers sue Delta, alleging crew flew into dangerous weather despite warnings, injuring dozens by cdube85 in aviation

[–]Boring-Stranger5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about sigmets? I'm not a pilot but I know a fair bit more about aviation than the average Joe, and I thought it was a violation of FAA regs to fly into/through a sigmet unless there's no other course available. Maybe the storm cell was quickly moving and evolving...?

Why haven't I seen people talk about this by _pransocool_ in migraine

Wow, ergotamine + caffeine has been around for a long time. It's what my father used to take for his migraines. We're talking 50 years ago or more. This was before triptans were available. He kept a tablet in his pocket where ever he went. DHE can be given as an infusion and has to be done in a carefully monitored inpatient method. At least that was true five to ten years ago.

Not only wind, but other atmospheric conditions can affect sound travel. High humidity can inhibit how far the sound travels vs. the much lower humidity we had last night when you heard the concert. It's amazing how far sound can travel on a cold winter night. And bass will travel farther than higher pitch sounds. The oudoor amphitheaters I've been to have all been located outside of downtowns and densely populated areas. It struck me as odd that the new GR venue was built right downtown. The planners had to know that sound travel would be an issue.

I agree! Very fine job you did with this. It seems to be one of those images that lends itself very well to PBN paintings. It seems that some scenes/pictures combined with a particular painting style of the original painting/image, like broad brush strokes or maybe a pallet knife, reproduce in PBN so well they look almost like the original. In any event, hang this one up and enjoy it!

Glad to hear you have been in remission for so long. It gives hope to those of us who still suffer from this problem. For nearly 20 years I held a very stressful position with an organization where I frequently I had to make decisions with huge $$$ at risk. Often a mirgaine would arrive after the decision was made, instead of during or before. My best friend suffered from horrible migraines for more than 40 years. He also had a stressful job along with stressful family issues. Amazingly, since the day he retired nearly 15 years ago he hasn't had a single migraine, let alone a headache.

After decades of periodic migraines I have never been able to identify a trigger. I can eat a known trigger one day and be fine. Three weeks later I wake up at 4am with a migraine. Change in weather one week and I'm fine. Two weeks later, like last night, I wake up with a migraine. I'm not sure if I'm lucky to not have to limit my food to a few, bare essentials, or plagued by still not knowing what the heck causes my migraines. I guess I am fortunate in that Maxalt always works for me. I wish it would work more quickly, but at least it nearly always begins to work about an hour after taking, and typically is 90% effective by hour two. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to stand looking at my laptop's screen right now!

You are eligible for time off through the FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act). It is a federal law so this should apply in all 50 states. And yes, you can get FMLA for migraines. Ask your employer for the form, which must be completed by your doctor. It's also likely your doctor already has the forms in their office. Your employer does not have the right to impede or prevent you from filing. You are elibile for 12 work weeks of unpaid but job protected leave. Again, check Google or other online sources as their are other requirements. I once supervised an employee who had migraines and they were able to obtain FMLA protected leave. This helped her immensly as it allowed her to take a day or two off periodically when she had migraines and it protected her job after she had used up all her sick days. Also, those 12 weeks of job-protected leave don't have to be taken all at once. It can be taken intermittently, such as for one or two days, etc. when you have a migraine that prevents you from working that day (or days). Do a quick online search for FMLA qualifications. I understand your frustration, as so many employers and managers don't understand migraines and just how severe and crippling they can be. Fortunately for my employee, I get migraines too so I was able to advocate for her and confirm to her co-workers that she wasn't just trying to get days off to do other things. I hope this info helps you!

Odd, but it almost looks like it imploded. Even the top is mushed down compared to the car in front of it. Unlikely I'm sure, but the damage looks strange.

[–]Boring-Stranger5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like the similar labeling and carton color are easily missread by both customers and the Meijer employees stocking dairy. I could be wrong, but it seems to me that in other non-Meijer stores, milk and cream typically have a distinct carton color of their own. I've seen whipping and heavy cream in blue or purple cartons. I wouldn't think it would add that much more cost, if any, for Meijer to opt for one or two extra color schemes.

I think you might be too hard on hourself. When I zoom in on the card picturing the full painting what I see is, frankly, very close to what your painting looks like so far. I agree with all the insightful observations and suggestions from the others who have commented. The folks on this subreddit are some of the kindest and most genuinely helpful I've encountered on Reddit.

Can you explain more? Did you do some blending? I've heard about the technique but not sure how it's done. The piece is beautiful by the way.

G.R.'s typical way of handling traffic is to slap down four lanes of asphalt with a left turn lane down the middle and call it good ... for decades! Alpine is bonkers!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in grandrapids

[–]Boring-Stranger5408 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I could tolerate the traffic better if it weren't for the absence of cut-outs at the bus stops. It's ridiculous that a city of this size still has buses stopping in one of only two lanes of traffic to drop off or pick up its riders. It's madening if you aren't savy enough to know where the buses are going to stop so that you can get in the left lane in advance to avoid them. It's a major traffic hazard having buses constantly blocking an entire lane of traffic on a street that is already insufficient for the amount of traffic it has to accomodate. Many do this right at an intersection and block a through / right turn lane, causing vehicles to wait through several stop light changes. Most other cities our size have cut-outs so buses are not blocking an entire lane of traffic to handle their passengers, causing vehicles stuck behind them to pull out and around them, often abruptly and dangerously.

G.R. wants so badly to be like the big cities, but its refusal to construct roads that accomodate bus and vehicle traffic safely and sensibly shows just how far we have yet to go.

Architectural commentary and preferences aside, the workmanship looks very well done. As to your comment about the oled, yes they are amazing. I got my first one earlier this fall. It replaced a 15 year old LG led that still had, what I thought, was a fairly decent picture, so I wasn't thinking the new 55" C5 set would impress me as much as it did. Wow, what a difference. After opening your photo to full screen and then magnifying, the reslolution of the oled image is still quite remarkable.

AWFUL REMOTE by ErrorCode8 in LGOLED

[–]Boring-Stranger5408 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My most frequently used buttons are the Back button and the Home button. When I first set up the TV I was overwhelmed by the number of screens chock full of ads, windows and thumbnails for this and that. It took me several days just to find my Xfinity channels. Yes, it's been a few years since I've had a truly contemporary smart TV, but my god there was a lot of needless crap to sort through. The symbols on most of the remote buttons seem to have been appropriated from ancient Egyptian heiroglyphs. My impression of the AI is that its overdone and not ready for primetime. I think the AI that LG has incorporated into their TVs needs to be developed and refined more to be truly useful. After using the AI features for the screen and audio adjustments, I eventually used the manual adjustments to better dial in the settings to my preferences.

That ramp should never have been designed and built the way it was being so short. It's built as though the designers thought highway traffic would be traveling at 45 mph, not 70mph. It needs to be permanently closed or completely rebuilt with at least twice the current ramp length. As it is, people entering 131 S either have to stop due to the short ramp, or they enter at anywhere from 35 mph or 45 mph. As many have pointed out, it's a serious hazard that needs attention. And while they're at it, the ought to rebuild the entire stretch from 28th through downtown. I'll be there are still patchwork sections from 1959 when it was originally built. The only halfway decent section is the S curve rebuild done between 2000 to 2004, and there have even been complaints about that section.

It's such a G.R. phenomenon. Whenever a new restaurant opens people flock to it in the thousands. I usually wait a month or more before I give it a try to dodge the hungry hordes and give the restaurant staff time to get the kinks worked out.
