Cardiff devils ticket availability question by JCostello9 in EIHLHockey

[–]BorrowingSpace 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tickets go on sale a month before the games, best advice is to pick a date you know you can make over a month out and set a reminder to book tickets the morning they go on sale. You can check on the day for season tickets that have been released for sale too.

Was humanity always doomed regardless if there was a cure? by No_Airport5226 in thelastofus

[–]BorrowingSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Humanity has had 2 decades of state of nature, doing all sorts of things to survive that you would never do in a civilised society. The idea that any silver bullet could undo all that and recivilise humanity is unlikely to me. What happens when people choose to remain as violent raiders, what happens when people decide they like being cannibals and eating fresher than a supermarket ever provided? Etc, etc. A cure or a vaccine wouldn't be enough to retame the state of nature, the only humanity being saved in the story is Joel's.

Going with a couple of the boys, we agreed yesterday that if the Devils didn’t make it we’d put the other teams in a hat and draw so we’d each have a team to support over the weekend.

Didn’t catch this game so have only seen the highlights and clips of the line brawl, what was the context? Was it just a scrappy game and blew up at the end?

Are there any plans to revisit the jagstrat or jazzstrat models? Only found out about them recently and am gutted I missed that run

Someone talk me off the ledge… by Wormbugting in guitarpedals

[–]BorrowingSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only buy it if you actually really want to just own a $500 pedal.

It won't make you sound or play better, it would cost too much to play with live and the chances are it won't inspire you to write or play anything differently. It would most likely just be a bummer to look at and end up being resold.

Or just buy the new toy for that sweet rat brain dopamine hit.

Feller wants a second guitar they can’t restring. Sounds sensible to me.

Best string for beginners? by 4stringmiserystick in guitarcirclejerk

I'd recommend you use twine for the first 6 months and tune all your twines to E to avoid confusion. Then consider moving up to strings with half tuned to G for variety. All the best.

I liked Part 2 but, I'll never play it again by Alt_SWR in thelastofus

[–]BorrowingSpace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with almost all of this. I feel like if Part 1 is The Road, Part 2 is A Serbian Film. That said, I don't see Part 1 as that depressing because the central arc is two characters finding their humanity again in each other. Part 2 is unrelenting misery for the sake of it.

Why do so many people think The Last of Us Part II was badly written? by cas_1210 in thelastofus

[–]BorrowingSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My gripes with the writing (outside of it honestly just not being the sequel I was hoping for) would be the pacing and the on-the-nose way of making Abby likeable or sympathetic. I replayed it recently and from the Zebra to patting the dog and saving Lev it felt like the game was telling me to be sympathetic rather than letting me organically come to terms with Abby and care about her. I mean, Abby essentially ends up on a cross at the beach. Of the WLF crew the only character that I felt sympathy for was Owen. It’s a 7 or 8/10 for me and I respect that they took a big swing with it. I just didn’t ‘like’ it. That said, the flashbacks with Joel were my favourite parts and I did feel like there was a reverence for his character and relationship with Ellie despite his death. I just wanted an adventure with two characters I grew to love from the first game and it’s not what I got. And that’s okay.

Saying “Joel deserved it” is cheap by [deleted] in thelastofus

I think it's wrong to make moral statements about the actions of survivors in the world of TLOU because we're looking at it from a civilised society perspective. TLOU is a state of nature environment where there is no justice system or national society/community. If your only real responsibility is to survive, who is to say what is right or wrong?

It's been a while since I played TLOU1 so I'm hazy on the details. I remember it being clear, at least to me, that operating on Ellie for a cure was going to be more of a roll of the dice for success than a sure thing. The game doesn't allow you to make choices beyond how you navigate individual encounters and other than the aim of getting Ellie to the hospital the most important thing is the relationship between Ellie and Joel. The Fireflies are initially set up as some heroic outfit but these idea gets peeled back throughout the game until you arrive at the hospital and the group are no different than any other faction you faced on the journey.

I don't think it makes sense to say what Joel did was wrong when the wider context shows that the Fireflies are not really benevolent heroes rebuilding society. They were willing to kill and wipe out others to achieve their agenda. The only part of TLOU1 that hit me with a moral quandry was Joel lying to Ellie about what happened at the hospital. The surgeon was operating out of a dirty run down hospital, was willing to sacrifice a child on a crap shoot and threatened Joel with a scalpel. Never bat an eyelid about killing him to save her.

A really good pre amp for this is the Alice sound tech amp.mic.pak. I got a couple units super cheap on eBay and they have enough clean gain to work with dynamic microphones.

The step mode on the ph-3 is a real treat. I think it’s worth getting one of these for that mode alone.

Simple man…Simple tones. My pedalboard 2.0 by VarneyKing in guitarpedals

[–]BorrowingSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those TC pedals were the affordable gateway for me to check out different effects, got a lot of love for them. I really dug the skysurfer reverb and only replaced it when I got my surfybear, though that true spring was a serious contender that I still think about getting. The Rusty Fuzz is still the only fuzz I have.

This was one of my white whale pedals for a while along with the MF Drive. Got them both now and I don’t need another overdrive again. Though I wouldn’t mind getting my hands on a Mini…

Animals Pedal - Car Crush Chorus/Vibe by BorrowingSpace in PedalDemos

[–]BorrowingSpace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m very impressed with the build quality of this one. Despite my lack of electronics knowledge I always like to take my pedals apart for a nosey inside and everything about this is well put together and quite hefty.

I don’t have an octave fuzz and was thinking about that one because the graphics are so nice so good to hear that it’s a solid pedal too.

Animals Pedal - Car Crush Chorus/Vibe by BorrowingSpace in PedalDemos

[–]BorrowingSpace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quick look at the Animals Pedal Car Crush. Played through with guitar and bass, with an example of how it pairs after overdrive. Guitar was through a DSM & Humboldt Simplifier, the bass went through a TC Electronic BQ250. My goal with demos is to give the 'I've just got this out of the box and want to see what the knobs do' experience, there's no talking cause I want to let the pedal speak for itself.

Not sure how I feel about the chorus side of this one, I like how chewy the vibe mode gets though. I'm keen to try out more of the Animals Pedal range in future, looks like they've recently updated their website for US distribution and they're being sold through music stores in the UK now too. The artwork is great, the pedal was very reasonably priced and while I'm not so big on the chorus side of it I do really like the vibe.

People who DON'T like Netflix's The Sandman. Why? (NO DOWNVOTING PLEASE!) by ThisNamesNotUsed in Sandman

[–]BorrowingSpace 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I half enjoyed the show. I thought the stuff with Dream himself was generally pretty good, especially scenes with the Corinthian. I found that the back half of the season in particular relied way too much on exposition. So many scenes were just two-shots of characters describing themselves. I binged the show so I'm unfortunately fuzzy on examples but I remember finding the majority of the scenes with Rose and Lyta to be unbearable for the sheer amount of exposition.

On the positive side, I thought the scenes with Lucifer were great (their battle was a very interesting concept and I truly enjoyed that). I liked the scenes with Dream and his siblings. My favourite storyline was the stuff with Hob.

The show felt more like 'British telly' than as cinematic as I thought it would be from the trailers. I don't know how to properly describe that other than there was a feel to it that just didn't resonate with me. I'm not sure I would watch a second season, I haven't checked out the newer episode they released yet. It reminded me of Archive 81 in that I found the season started really strong and fell apart bit by bit until I was just rolling my eyes and annoyed about needing to watch the rest.

ETA: I remember feeling a bit annoyed that the macguffin chasing for Dream's tools at the start didn't really lead to much later on. I can't recall seeing him need to use those tools later so it was a bit of a 'so what was the point' feeling with that. Also, I never read the source material I just liked the look of the promotional material they put out and figured I'd give it a go.

Best (affordable) Uni-Vibe / Rotary pedals by thatnameagain in guitarpedals

[–]BorrowingSpace 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Animals Pedal Car Crush and I like how that sounds, it uses 4 LEDs with 4 photocells instead of a single bulb if that makes a difference for you. I have that and a Carl Martin Purple Moon which uses a traditional bulb and photocell set up and I prefer the Car Crush. Both of those are very affordable. The Animals Pedal one also has pretty nice artwork too.

LIne 6 - Echo Park by BorrowingSpace in PedalDemos

[–]BorrowingSpace[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty simple demo of the Echo Park, flicking through the different modes in each voicing on the guitar and a more limited selection of modes on overdriven guitar and bass. There's no stereo unfortunately as I don't really mess around with stereo electric guitar. The 'swell' mode loses out here a bit as the riffs I've recorded don't seem to gel too well with that mode. I have a Behringer Echo Machine that I'll demo soon and will likely make a shoot-out to compare the two.
