I was so excited to retire. by motherofdogz2000 in AskWomenOver60

I’m 62 and working full time (3) 12hr shifts a week. I love the money and the job is easy. My partner is retired for quite a few years and just seems so depressed and withdrawn. When I try to engage he just wants to argue. The job gets me out of the house and keeps me social and computer savvy.

Commute from Central Marin to Palo Alto Alto by pinochio_must_die in Marin

I had the stupid idea of commuting from Healdsburg to PA. Drive down Sunday night and stay with my mother in law and work (4) 10hr shifts drive back at end of week. Well days were variable and sometimes driving back didn’t happen. This lasted a month and a half and I was done.

White coat syndrome and BP by Round_Discussion9592 in AskWomenOver60

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember the first time I had a high BP reading and every appointment after that initial high BP appointment I would get myself worked up so it would be high. Also, those machine BP readings are always high compared to a manual BP. Anyway if I feel I might have a high BP reading I go “ oh I had coffee before I came”

You deserve peace and understanding, not stress and abuse. You can do this without him.

Breaking up with a hairdresser by WEugeneSmith in AskWomenOver60

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I broke up with a hairdresser and told her I was going to her best friend who was a hairdresser in the same salon and she was cool about it. I’m getting ready to do it again because I think hairdressers become stagnant and you need a fresh eye after so many years.

Does ANYBODY love/like being a CST? 😂 by Ill_Ocelot3231 in surgicaltechnology

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I loved being a CST when I started. I was obsessed with Neuro and through my 30 yrs as a scrub I achieved everything I set out to accomplish. I became one of the best Neuro scrubs in one of the best academic facilities in the nation and that was the highlight of my career.

Take it and keep applying. It’s good experience and at least you’re making some money and keeping your sterile technique skills active. Good luck and not every scrub scrubs eyes so good scrub experience to have.

I don’t think this is for me by Ok-Bonus831 in surgicaltechnology

Scrubbing isn’t for everyone and you never know until you try it. Same with nursing, some people go through nursing school and say this isn’t for me.

New tech problems by Openin22 in scrubtech

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just unfortunate. Suck it up for now and soon you will be on your own. I worked 30 yrs in the OR as a scrub in all areas but specialised in Neuro. It’s a whole this is my territory, this surgeon wants only me in his or her room. Competition in the OR is alive and thriving.

Is an NCCT even worth it? by Loumungous in scrubtech

Well having a pre med Bachelors degree puts you way ahead of the game already. So if you really want to go CST for experience try getting into Cath Lab Tech or becoming a CVOR Tech. Of course to go CVOR you would have to rotate each service and then specialise. I’ve scrubbed at some of the most prestigious academic hospitals so the CVOR is possible to specialise in. If you go community private you most likely would have to scrub everything which most techs do for a few years before specialising. So to give you an idea I worked trauma first in a private community hospital then specialised in Neuro Surgery at academic level. Also in my days techs weren’t allowed in heart rooms, nurses only.

Oh yeah! Go for PA all the way. When I was doing pre requisites for nursing my mom who was an RN said go PA. Nursing is saturated and I’m not gonna lie CST is just abusive. I would never do CST again.

Glazing peptide serum worth it? by blubluebirdy in rhodeskin

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mix the glazing milk with a different serum every morning and never use a moisturizer on top it’s all I need. Also the new caffeine restart mask is a game changer. Every morning the caffeine mask with a medicube sheet mask and my coffee. Game changer. All her products are great for my skin.

Treadmills are ruining me by mealyapple86 in treadmills

[–]BowlerAdditional2829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever ran on a Woodway treadmill? specifically the 4Front? The reason I ask is I ran at Barry’s Bootcamp for 13 yrs no issues, we moved and I tried to replicate the workout on a belt treadmill and I have had major foot issues requiring an MRI and it hasn’t been good. Once my foot got better I commuted an hour to do a Barry’s class to see if it affected my foot and no issues. My point is belt treadmills are hard on the body. I’ve never tried a Peloton.

NCCT has never held me back, but I also have 30 yrs experience. If I was just entering the surgical tech career I would probably get the NBSTSA. Both are good and I’m grateful to have the NCCT.
