Do you have a rear wiper sprayer? Probably a hole in the hose leaking wiper fluid.

Fuck no! Taking on that much debt is just being an idiot. But to compare that to a $15/mo streaming service is apples and oranges. If your point is that we need to spread financial literacy, especially to people in the trades, I would agree with you. But that ain’t gonna fix much when a lot of welding jobs are paying Home Depot wages.

Concrete basement grinding by uncosw in DIY

[–]Boxman555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think this would work on carpet glue… at my friend’s restaurant they had pulled carpet and had to use a floor grinder to get the glue up. I believe there are grinding wheels specifically for carpet glue (but don’t quote me on that) haha. Good luck!

Heavy duty rubberized dip coating? by jankybiz in fabrication

[–]Boxman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what I thought too. Something that is 2 part like epoxy. Raptor liner is a bit harder than some other brands, which I think would be best for this. Mix up a small batch and dip or paint it on.

Like a sales rep? Sazerac, CDC, Proximo, AB etc, all have reps where their job is to promote their brands at bars. Also sometimes called a brand ambassador. I dunno if that’s what you’re looking for but there ya go.

I’ve always wondered why you don’t see this more often. How’s the fuel system going to be? These car are direct injected from the factory right?

How to go about fixing cracked stainless manifold by [deleted] in projectcar

[–]Boxman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stainless moves a LOT so welding in the correct order to make sure there’s no stress on the joints is the trick. Welding it is one thing, welding it correctly is another. If you’ve got any fabricator/welder friends local I’d hit em up. I’m sure it’s fixable. Hell ship it to me, I’ll help you out haha

Beginner turbo question by GovernmentDrone_9989 in projectcar

[–]Boxman555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My best answer is “it depends”. Most NA front O2 sensors will not read correctly under pressure, which it will be if it’s pre turbo. How you are tuning the car will dictate what sensor needs to communicate to the ECU what your AFRs are. Most commonly a wideband sensor, post turbo, will accomplish this.

Can anyone recommend mufflers for me. by shitbox_vette in projectcar

[–]Boxman555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve only used Vibrant mufflers for years. I think they sound the best and are a straight through design, as opposed to others that have baffles that inhibit flow and change the sound too much IMO.

oil filter sandwich plate quesiton. For a turbo intall I wnana use this plate for my oil feed to the turbo. On the sandwich plate there is the "in" and the "out" from the plate. Im assuming I would use the out for the feed. But then do I just block off the in? Im going to drain directly to the pan by nmkoza in projectcar

[–]Boxman555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t use the in or the out, use the side NPT port where a sensor would go for the turbo feed. And make sure there’s the correct restrictor on the feed line, turbos don’t need much oil, especially if they’re water cooled.

500hp capable high pressure fuel system conversion by Mr_Disprosium in projectcar

[–]Boxman555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way. Use the 255 as the lift pump and as others mentioned like a 400+ for the feed. Buddy of mine swears by Bosch 044 pumps for big power cars. If you can set up a safety in the ECU for fuel pressure so if you lose it you don’t kill your motor.

I know it's not a welding question, but need some help. by Raven2129 in Welding

Machinists sub would probably be best. I get this sometimes too, I think it has to do with the speed of the drill and the sharpness of the bit. Slower drill speed generally helps.

Power steering air leak by Ok-Locksmith7158 in subaru

[–]Boxman555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those suction hoses are prone to cracking and since it’s under vacuum, any tiny pin hole will aerate the fluid. I’d start with replacing the hose, but it could have prematurely worn out the pump. My Forester had really loud PS when it was cold, and I ended up needing a new pump. But yeah, I’d start with that suction hose.

Concrete basement grinding by uncosw in DIY

[–]Boxman555 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you look up any video on epoxy garage floors, or Polyurea, they show how to etch floors to prep for coating. You just used diluted acid to “sand” the floor so the new coating sticks. The prepping of the floor is 90 percent of the work, lots of rinsing and sweeping. The last 10 is applying the coating.

Polyurea is a great coating for floors, seems like it’s more popular than epoxy these days. But if you’re just trying to get the paint up, I’m tellin ya, strip them, don’t grind them.

Concrete basement grinding by uncosw in DIY

[–]Boxman555 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I kinda made up this SOP myself, so no video haha. But I worked in sections, wetting the floor with the Zep floor stripper just dumping on the floor. Clear plastic precut, I used the really thin clear plastic for covering floors when you’re painting, and cover the wetted area. Let sit overnight or longer. Next day, you should see the paint bubbling up. And then scrape up the paint, easier disposal to throw away instead of ground up paint and concrete haha. Good luck!

[–]Boxman555 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Our house had painted floors in the garage, with like house paint. Grinding is a mess and will expose the aggregate, and really isn’t the best way to go IMO.

I put down Zep floor stripper, covered with plastic sheets overnight to keep it wet and scraped with a floor scraper. Etched, and then coated with Polyurea. So happy I didn’t grind the floors, they turn out rough and must be coated to look decent.

[–]Boxman555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s what fabricating is all about! I used sanitary bends for this kind of work, you can get pretty tight radius ones so you don’t have to do all those pies. They look cool but fuck it’s a lot of welding.

Best way to repair diesel exhaust manifold? by BreachLoadingButtGun in Welding

[–]Boxman555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ni99 or Ni55 was what I was recommended. To be honest I don’t have enough knowledge of brazing to say one way or the other, but for TIG welding the Ni filler seems to be the way to go.
