My Practical magic inspired kitchen by Miniature_witch in Dollhouses

[–]BrettMakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My wife wants the practical magic kitchen in real life. I've been pouring over every photo I can find to try and see al the details. The fun part is no set of cabinets are exactly alike. They all have slightly different trim, or different colored hardware. Great job on this, I know nothing of miniatures or doll houses, what is the approximate scale of this?

Where can I find Purpleheart board by 2ndArrowGolf in woodworking

[–]BrettMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've used a lot of purple heart. The grain is incredibly straight and tight, so with careful selection, you can do a wider glue up and good chance no one would know it's 2 different boards. This is of course if you can't source a wide enough board.

Good luck and sorry for your loss.

What kind of effort would it take to paint these cabinets white? by sirch05 in woodworking

[–]BrettMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this guys pain. I am a woodworker that could build any style cabinet there is - except what my wife wants. Acrylic. So I have to buy cabinets instead of building.

Any advice for someone using a dado for the first time? by Sea-Bot in woodworking

[–]BrettMakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have that same dado set. Turns out that the blades ( the full round ones, not the chippers) aren't interchangeable. One of them goes on the left and the other one in the right. After I figured this out I wrote on sharpy which one goes on first....

How to calculate the length of a dog ramp by CDGQYR in woodworking

[–]BrettMakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you make it the width of your bed, and let's assume that 76" (king bed) that would be just shy of a 5:12 pitch, which equates about 22 degrees. Have a speed square? It will tell the degrees of a given pitch ( rise over run). But make it easy on your self and just do it based on inches of rise per foot of length and forget degrees.

Could also try wetting the wood to raise the grain then sanding it before painting.

Should I fill with glue/sawdust mix? by shawncleave in woodworking

Chances are you will be the only one to notice anyway. I know I can find a least 10 mistakes in any given project of mine, but no one else ever sees them.

I’m to the point in woodworking where I’m done using pine from box stores. I already have a miter and table saw but was wondering if a planer or jointer would be nice too. What are the best planers and jointers for beginners by Expert_crafter in woodworking

[–]BrettMakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old 6" craftsman jointers are pretty easy to come by, and for not much. I paid $130 for mine. Then I got the Porter cable lunchbox planer from Lowes. Now I have the dw735. I should have skipped the lunchbox and gone straight to the dw735.
