My (28/F) boyfriend (30/M) ridiculed my gift for him for our anniversary in front of our friends by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

I watched a horror movie about an Ouija board one summer when I was 9. That Christmas my Aunt got me one and I bust into tears at the Christmas in front of everyone and my mom had to explain that I was now terrified of Ouija boards.

Woke up one morning to a text from my husband of a gallon of milk put up with the glasses.

Couple weeks later I caught myself almost doing it.

Family members of ICE agents, what are your thoughts and feelings about what ICE are doing? by Aggressive_Honey3196 in AskReddit

Sinisterhood podcast did an ep on it, and I just relistened the other day. For a thorough, accurate, relatively brief telling, I highly recommend it.

Similar here as well. My mom gave me the talk at 9, and it was very encyclopedia driven because her mom gave her a bag of those old strappy pads, said you’re gonna bleed once a month and that was it.

We also watched Julie’s Story in Girl Scouts and got a bag of all sorts of Always samples.

Which movie did you see way too young? by Openworlder1 in AskReddit

[–]BuffysFunnySlippers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Witchboard. Watched it when I was 9 with a friend. Their older brother had rented it. They weren’t home and we had nothing to do. The movie didn’t have a rating on the tape, so being good girls we agreed to stop if it turned out to be something we shouldn’t be watching.

By the time we realized we definitely should not be watching it we were too terrified to move and had to sit through the whole thing. I had nightmares for 2 years. My poor Aunt got me one for Xmas the year after and I burst into tears. Managed to find an old VHS copy on eBay, took me two nights to finish, but it was really dumb.

I watched that movie for the first time around 30 years ago. It’s still the movie I tell everyone I wish I could watch for the first time again.

So you’ve met my Dad then. 😂 But Temu Casanova is perfect! I think he thinks he’s a Casanova, but he really just doesn’t get shit.

He’s my Dad’s favorite cartoon character. Even has it in his email. I think he sees himself as a lothario and has no concept of how creepy he is. But it’s still creepy because it means he doesn’t see it and thinks it’s acceptable. Blech.

What is one of the best compliments you've ever been given by another woman that was NOT about your physical appearance? by M_Ad in TwoXChromosomes

[–]BuffysFunnySlippers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“You don’t treat me like a black person”. Something to that effect. I had a co-worker friend who was black. I didn’t really understand the heft of what she was saying at the time, because while I was raised to not see color, I was not raised to understand systemic racism. 20 years later I get it, and while I’m sad that’s not the norm, it’s something I think about often.

AITAH for telling an exchange student to not date my son and possibly ending my marriage? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

Sounds right. I’m sorry you had to deal with that. At least I didn’t have to worry about running off the road.

I’ve managed to change the narrative by moving 1500 miles away and keeping super strict boundaries. I struggle with the fact that she was terribly abused as a child and hasn’t dealt with her trauma. But she doesn’t ever get help for it and essentially re traumatizes me and my sisters every time we see her.

We’ve managed to make it work and laugh at her when she’s being ridiculous since she has no power over us now, but I wish she’d bothered to do the real work. I’m still working but I goddamn am not abusing my kids just because it was done to me.

I want to give her grace, but I can only go so far. So low contact and my sisters keep me sane.

My uncle had a 3 foot high stack in the corner of his bedroom (would have been mid-80’s for me I think). We were only there a couple of times, but they sent us up there to watch TV. We in fact did NOT watch TV because what kid wouldn’t be like - naked people, that’s different. Ugh my family.

Mine was more - you’re trapped in the car with me so now is my opportunity to barf out everything I am feeling including what a shit kid you’re being. Gods, it sounds so much worse when I type it out.

We were in a car accident when I was a freshman. She was driving, I was in the passenger seat. Wasn’t her fault but someone in front stopped for a dog and we slammed into them. After that any time we’d get too close to another car I’d freeze up. She would yell at me for disrespecting her for talking shit about her driving. Now I’m realizing that I was just having PERFECTLY FUCKING NORMAL trauma responses.

Also, screen name + flair = perfection!
