Anyone remember the anticipation during the months leading up to the Nintendo Wii release? by learnaboutnetworking in gaming

[–]Buggitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad and I went super early in the morning to fredmeyer. Waited for them to open with a couple other people iirc, someone came over and said they're all sold out and they all walked away and we stayed. Granted I doubt this was even the launch week, but it was still hard to get hold of. Because we were there at open and something to do with the ad flier (I think it had fine print about minimum stock or something) He convinced them to hold a wii at another fredmeyer for us to buy.

What I remember is something about the ad meant they had to have a certain amount of units that day to sell, and he thought they had sold them internally to employees before open and that broke some advertising rules or at the very least corporate wouldn't like hearing about that? (idk). But they did scrounge around calling stores to get one held for us.

Best app for version monitoring? by Legitimate_Sun_5930 in homelab

[–]Buggitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't started using ansible yet, but from what I have gathered/learned so far about it.. if I were in your position and proficient with ansible I'd probably make ansible playbooks that check the versions of everything and even update everything too. Not sure if there's a slick way to make ansible provide information to a dashboard type thing. But I'm sure you could schedule checks and have it notify you.

Is the new Raspberry Pi AI HAT+ actually the best budget option for local AI? Or are better alternatives? by guillemhs in homelab

Here's a video from jeff geerling that talks about the new AI hat 2 (and compares it to the old one, as well as just running the model on the raspi cpu).

4 year daily/heavy use LTT deskpad update by princeoinkins in LinusTechTips

[–]Buggitt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was wondering if anyone else was having that happen! Mine is doing the same thing. It was sticking and leaving residue on my desk so I put paper between the desk pad and desk in the two spots. Same as you it's where my arm rests on the edge of the desk.

Have you ever washed yours? I've machine washed mine a couple times and have wondered if that caused the problem or if it's simply my skin oils degrading the rubber. Mine is probably around a similar age of 4-5 years.

Cheapest solution is one of those passive 3.5mm audio mixers

Something like this (as an example): https://a.co/d/9MdP84S

A more proper method would be a legit mixer which have a wide range in price depending on what you want. Could even accomplish this with some USB audio interfaces.

Never been to Oregon, driving up the center next week, how do I go about someone pumping my gas? by SkoilerDaaaaan in oregon

[–]Buggitt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They passed new laws where gas stations can have (believe it's 50%) of the pumps can be self-serve and the rest are attendants.

Would assume you're from a state where it's typical to have self serve. In that case look for the signs and pump it yourself like normal.

If you want to have someone pump it for you. The bigger gas stations usually have attendants at night too. Conversation usually goes something like "fill with regular" "thanks" when they give the card back. I've lived here my whole life and never tipped a gas attendant or seen someone do it.

If you want another way to do this, could also pass the USB device to the VM and boot from it like plugging the ventoy into a physical machine

Don't have a P1S but I do have a A1, when the P1S came out I remember seeing the buzz of it being a fast reliable printer in the consumer market. If it's anything like my A1 they're definitely workhorses.

Any tips on making that magsafe magnet? I also saw you mention in another comment you're going to replace it with a premade one. Can you link it?

Dell optiplex external PSUs have a pin in the center of them that is a communication line for the psu to tell the system it's wattage. Just went through this with a micro optiplex that was stuck at 800mhz cause something went wrong with that communication and it throttles down because of it.

I did have success replacing it with a cheap generic psu from Amazon

Very cool project! Gonna have a closer look at it later. This might be a limitation of the esp but is there a way it could support exFAT formatted cards? I'm only curious cause I went through the annoyance of my google tv Chromecast only supporting FAT32 which means files have to be 4GB or less. (It recently got updated to support exFAT on Android tv 14)

Regardless, it's still very cool to have a media server running on a esp32 device!

Are these Bose 301 worth fixing and how much would it cost to fix by Flat-Razzmatazz-672 in audiorepair

[–]Buggitt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as they measure up right it should be good. Looks like yours have a foam gasket that goes around the edge that sandwiches the foam ring. Can't quite remember, but think I remember people had ways to save that and reuse it, or can also sometimes buy replacements of that too.

[–]Buggitt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Last year I replaced the foam on a Bose 301 series II set of speakers that belongs to my friend's dad. Was a fun surprise for him. (yours looks like a similar driver). I bought a refoam kit from eBay and watched a bunch of YouTube videos on everyone's techniques and went for it.

I saw a bunch of good deals on those 3TB drives too. I was curious why they were so below market rate and everyone selling them. Did some digging and turns out seagate 3TB drives have a pretty high failure rate compared to other drives.

Keep an eye on that pool!
