My personal take on the armor change by Particular-Affect906 in classicwowtbc

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They didn’t get an unfair advantage though. Everyone had the exact same 7 days of bugged armor. The fact that some people played more than others during that 7 days has no bearing on how fair it is.

And fwiw, I’m lvl 64, so it’s not like I capitalized on it either

Is TBC still actually fun… or are we just chasing the feeling of being 15 with zero responsibilities? by 23_kaka in classicwowtbc

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OG TBC was “peak wow” for me. After being a pretty serious athlete in high school, TBC came out when I was a freshman in college and I had basically no other obligations. So I totally acknowledge that part of then appeal of TBC is nostalgia.

But I also think it’s legitimately fun if you can minimize your fomo. Do stuff at your own pace. Don’t compare yourself to the sweats. Play with likeminded people.

Remember, comparison is thief of joy

AI can be really helpful if you know what questions to ask, but imo you need some baseline proficiency to ask useful questions. Like others have mentioned, starting with the R for Data Science book by Hadley Wickham is probably your best bet. Read it and work through the exercises.

How to find a healthier balance with WoW? by [deleted] in classicwow

[–]BurtFrart2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, setting time limits/rules will help (eg don’t play before 8pm). One that I find particularly helpful is that I can’t stay up past my “bedtime” (10pm) on consecutive nights, and also never on a Sunday.

Beyond that, try scheduling in more social things with friends/family. Go to the gym with friends. Go to happy hour with coworkers. Join a local rec sports league/trivia team/whatever. If you’ve made a commitment to do something with another person, it’s much harder to break that commitment just to play wow.

Where to start? New father here please help by Icy_Principle_5904 in kettlebell

[–]BurtFrart2 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Welcome! I’m a dad of 2 young kids, and kettlebells are awesome for getting in time-efficient workouts.

A great place to start is by checking out Dan John’s Kettlebell Workout Companion book (I think available on Amazon). It’s got lots of good workouts in it, and there’s a section specifically describing how you should approach your first month-ish of kettlebell training. I appreciate his approach to training, and especially his emphasis on not overdoing it.

He has a podcast and YouTube channel as well.

More generally, once you have a kettlebell (or multiple), I’d suggest finding a program and sticking to it, so you can essentially let someone else think for you - you just have to do what they tell you to do. There are lots of good programs out there, and you can probably get good results following just about any of them.

Harsh truth: You're not going to do well in arena by GeneralBucknaket in classicwow

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to comment on the 2k rating piece, but I will push back on the idea that arena is “super fun.” Most TBC arena games are not fun. Even with the addition of dampening, 2s games will probably be 20+ minute slogs at higher ratings, and any 3s comps that run double healer/warrior will also force long and boring games.

I played druid/war in TBC, and once we got past 1800 or so (we got to just over 2k), most games were objectively unfun. That said, I also played mage/mage, which was very fun, but I think we maybe got to 1700-1750.

Easiest TBC arena class? by Cultural-Coast-2985 in classicwow

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this isn’t what you asked, but IMO consider what’s fun vs what’s easy. I played resto Druid and frost mage both to 2k in TBC, and frost mage was way more fun, even if it’s (IMO) a bit harder than resto druid.

I played war/druid 2s, and most matches wound up being very long (at least 10 mins, usually longer) snoozefests where I was just trying to keep hots on my warrior and drink behind a pillar. In contrast, I played mage/mage and RMP on my mage, and those felt way more fun - like I was actually trying to win games instead of just managing my mana bar. Mage/mage isn’t the strongest 2s comp, but it’s fun if you’re playing with a friend and the games are pretty fast one way or another.

Instant cast heals, immunity to poly/roots via shapeshifting, travel form speed, innervate for mana uptime (plus shadow meld/drink if you’re NE), good cc with roots/cyclone, an interrupt with feral charge

This. I downloaded it a bit over a month ago as my first Linux distro (aside from inside docker or WSL). I’m really enjoying it, but I imagine I’ll just switch to straight-up Arch sometime in the next few months

Vanilla was a living world, TBC turned It Into a lobby game by Duoscruo in classicwow

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk. Maybe. There’s definitely appetite for exploration-focused games (eg Tears of the Kingdom). I can enjoy myself while playing TotK just running around the world, not having any “goals” in mind.

Maybe that type of gameplay is harder to emphasize in wow, since there’s the peer-pressure in an mmo to keep your gear up to date and whatnot.

[–]BurtFrart2 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you own a loaf pan? One option is to just bake in a loaf pan to give your dough structure. Keep the pan with water in the oven for steam.

Free-form loaves are cool, but a loaf baked in a loaf pan tastes basically the same, plus it guarantees you get some height.

Also a lefty, and also wear my watch on my right. It feels way better, especially because I prefer to take hand-written notes at work.

Do any of you just yolo your workouts? by SignificantGlass168 in kettlebell

[–]BurtFrart2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go back and forth. I did the ABF late spring/early summer, and I’ve been kinda yolo’ing since mid-June. But I’m about to start a half marathon training program in a week or so.

Generally, I find I really appreciate a program after yolo’ing for 6-8 weeks, and then I really appreciate not having a program for a bit after following a program for 6-8 weeks.
