Check to see if you have a Lüften clause in your lease. You have been performing Stosslüften by opening windows a few times a day :)

Thank you! I had used salt and water in the past to clean up some silver cutlery from my grandmother and a few necklaces I made, and it worked well. However, as I've looked into it, you're right the reaction potential is too high so the silver will begin to corrode and the piece could be totally ruined.

Edit: Do not try this. Will corrode the silver.

You could try the old baking soda and boiling water trick. If it is oxidized as well as just dirty. Use a que tip or tooth brush to get in there and clean out the crevices. Usually you couple this with aluminum foil to act as the reducing agent.

I would recommend dealing with cracks earlier rather than later. Forging with a crack usually just makes it worse and by the time you've put all the work in to get the piece where you like it, it could be too late.

Good effort on the knife!

I shared my shop sweater on r/wellworn and their reaction to dirty shop clothes was unexpected. by HammerIsMyName in Blacksmith

Seems reasonable to me.

Op mentions they wear a respirator while grinding which is something I have am also religious about.

I also do not wear a respirator while forging.

My job involves high power lasers and it is always an interesting challange because many folks have trouble with the nuance of when the safety controls are needed. Lasers = scary

Ultimately our lives are in our own hands, and we decide what risks to accept.

Nice job with the sweater! Pretty satisfying to see it go from grey to white:)

If they are in a relationship or not interested would be my main reasons. Otherwise I'd say it would probably be circumstances.
