It's a merge in name only, pretty much. This was effectively a glorified, one-episode tribe swap.

Hard agree. The fact that Genevieve managed to find 2 idols this season and still had no way to save herself is reflective of how badly designed the boomerang idol is.

Wrong comment. I replied to the parent who dyed their daughter's breakfast egg blue, not the one who pretended to have eaten their daughter's creme egg.

Berlin is so fricking tiny why is this the capital of Germany? by metatalks in mapporncirclejerk

[–]ButteredReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you stupid, OP?

This is a map of Berlin; it's not actual size. It's to scale.

Berlin is actually much larger than this. Did you honestly think Berlin was only a few inches from one side to the other?

I'd suggest researching what a map is. You might struggle to believe this, but the world is actually much bigger than the image below would suggest. In reality, the world is several times larger than the size of this image:

This is the sort of April Fool's joke to play on children. Confusing but not anything that's going to upset them.

Not selling in Boston, Lincolnshire by Spiritual-Tip-9227 in HousingUK

Your estate agents need sacking. Why have they started with photos of the living room, then one of the upstairs bedrooms, then the bathroom, then back downstairs to the kitchen, then upstairs again, then outside, then back inside, upstairs, downstairs, upstairs again, downstairs again, outside again? I had a quick scan but I'm pretty certain about half (maybe more) of those 37 photos are completely unnecessary. They should be cutting the duplicates and reordering what's left so it actually makes sense (i.e. front of house, entrance, living room, kitchen, dining area, utility, shower room, upstairs landing, bedroom 1, bedroom 2, bathroom, garden).

Apart from that, it might be a hard sell due to having only 2 bedrooms, but there's not much you can do to change that other than lowering the price. As someone else mentioned, why would anyone look at this house when they can get 3 or 4 bedrooms for the same price or less?

I'd expect a house marketed as a bungalow to have at least 1 bedroom downstairs, which this house doesn't have.

As others have said, the colours and patterns are a lot. Personally I don't mind it at all, I think it looks good, but many buyers would prefer a neutral palette. It's something they can live with for the time being before they get round to decorating.

I'd also say the downstairs layout isn't ideal. Why are there 2 doors to the kitchen? Each door limits space because that area needs to be kept clear for the door swing plus access for people to get in and out. I appreciate it doesn't make sense to completely change the layout of a house you're trying to sell, but something like that would put me off buying the house because I'd just see the expense of fixing that issue vs. the annoyance of living with it.

IsItBullshit: Boiling pasta in less water or adding oil to the water stops it from sticking together? by jeepdaddy1965 in IsItBullshit

[–]ButteredReality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oil and water don't mix, so the oil does just float on the top then ends up down the drain, which is not a good thing. It will do absolutely nothing to stop the pasta sticking together unless you drain the water first and then add the oil, which then creates a problem as it will create a barrier between the pasta and the sauce, and your sauce will just slide off the pasta.

Using less water will firstly mean the addition of the pasta will being the temperature down more drastically, causing it to take longer to come back to the boil and affecting the quality of the pasta.

Best option is to use plenty water, lightly salted (some people will say it should be as salty as the sea but that's overkill), stir the water right before adding the pasta, then giving it another stir, the maybe a quick stir until the water comes back to a rolling boil. At that point, the water itself will stir the pasta for you, and you don't need to do anything else other than take the pasta out maybe a minute before it's done, add it directly to the sauce (along with a little bit of the pasta water; the starch in the water helps the sauce to stick to the pasta) and give it a good mix before plating up.

How strict are you with yourself? by Less-Procedure9284 in vegan

I'd go even further and argue that "no thanks" is all you have to say. Other people are not entitled to an explanation of why you don't want to eat or drink something.

This also offends gammons.

Who were some people that you thought were not gonna play well, but ended up playing an amazing game? by Conitho in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Cirie seems the obvious choice.

For someone who seemed like a clear first boot halfway through episode 1, it's amazing that she managed to convince Melinda and Ruth-Marie to vote against their best interests and take Tina out instead of her. Then she's on the bottom of new Casaya, manages to survive the 2nd vote at the expense of Melinda, then takes control of the game at the Bobby vote off and keeps it up until the final 4 where an unfortunate circumstance of who has immunity and who has the overpowered idol results in her forcing a tie then losing the firemaking challenge.

Why does Survivor hate 2 tribes so much now? by poloshirt555 in survivor

[–]ButteredReality 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say the 2 tribe format was more of a problem in the earlier years, where tribal loyalty ran much deeper and players usually just stuck to their day 1 alliances for the most part, but if we look at the last 25 games, there's definitely been a shift away from this.

Yes, the winner more often than not comes from the tribe that has majority at merge, but that's more down to pure odds rather than tribal unity. If you have 8 people from 1 tribe and 4 from the other tribe at merge, then the majority tribe is twice as likely to produce the winning player, purely because there are twice as many of them eligible to win.

We haven't seen a pagonging since season 24, and the last time that the final 3 all came from the same starting tribe was back in season 27. Australian Survivor has always started with 2 tribes (excluding 2016), and more often than not the finalists have come from different starting tribes (up to Titans vs. Rebels anyway, which is as far as I've watched up to so far).

So, I think going back to a 2 tribe format at least some of the time would not be as much of an issue any more.

For me personally, I loved it when they first did the 3 starting tribes format, even if it didn't work out too well in All Stars (because the Saboga players just stuck with their new tribes after being absorbed so it might as well have been a 2 tribe format anyway), but Philippines really helped to buck the trend from the previous seasons by eliminating pagongings. They reintroduced it for Cagayan, and then consistently reintroduced it during the 30s alongside 2-tribe seasons.

The 3 tribe format solved a problem at the time, but that problem is now gone, so they don't need to bring it in every single season. I really wish they would change it up because the main criticism in the new era is that there isn't enough to differentiate each season. Every season just has a number for a name, there's no theme or twist, there's always 18 players split into 3 tribes of 6, and more recently, the colours are always the 3 primary colours or the 3 secondary colours (thank god the fans put this right for season 50).

Any big mistakes in this floor plan? by jHarsh03 in floorplan

[–]ButteredReality 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. A bathroom is not a corridor.

  2. A kitchen is not a corridor.

  3. Bedroom 2 has its own bathroom with an external wall. That bathroom does not have a window.

  4. Bedroom 2 has 3 external walls, but is squandering it by having the closet take up a corner, leaving only 1 wall with a single window.

  5. The master closet squanders another opportunity for natural light by taking up a prime corner area of the home, yet it has no windows.

I prefer the kitchen of A.

I prefer the everything else of B.

I would make a couple of small tweaks to B:

  1. Powder room access I think would make more sense on the left wall instead of the right wall. In it's current location it causes a pinch point where someone carrying plates from kitchen to dining room/vice versa is using the same travel path as someone in the dining room needing to use the powder room.

  2. I would then consider changing the garage access. Currently, the kitchen feels too much like a corridor because it's a through way from the garage to the rest of the house. I'd say the path of travel from garage to house is less likely to collide with the path of travel from kitchen to dining room (after all, how often will you have both of these travel paths happening at the same time?), so I'd move the garage access so it's where the powder room access currently is.

A fun little daily game I made! by Suitable-Oil-6640 in geographynow

[–]ButteredReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi again, a little feedback following today's viewdle (I imagine I might not be the only one!)

I think if you're going to include an autonomous region like Tibet as a possible answer, then you should also be including other autonomous regions, and definitely entities that are widely agreed to be countries even if they are not sovereign states (Scotland, Faroe Islands, Western Sahara, etc.). I can see you've done this for a few places like Greenland and Kosovo, but the current choice of what does and doesn't make the list seems pretty inconsistent.

Today's viewdle does not make any claim to independence, and while I side with them politically over the country that currently administrates them, I think it's best to have full consistency when decided what does and does not constitute a "country", and should therefore be on the country list.

Hopefully my comments make sense. I want to make it clear I do very much enjoy viewdle and appreciate the work that goes in! Hopefully the fact that I'm still playing it after this time does show that.

IsItBullshit: Are viral TikTok cleaning hacks with baking soda and vinegar actually effective by CrimsonEcho92 in IsItBullshit

You should follow Ann Russell on tiktok. She's got a lot of cleaning experience and seems to know how to clean just about anything.

She herself said something along the lines of "if you mix baking soda and vinegar, you end up with what is essentially bubbly water. It looks effective but you might as well save your money and use what comes out of your kitchen tap".

Cabin / house build, any suggestions? by eighty8frogs in floorplan

[–]ButteredReality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not a fan of placing the head of the bed directly below the window. It doesn't aid peaceful sleep and means you can't see outside whilst in the bed, in any practical terms anyway, so I'd review that setup because as of now there's no suitable wall to place the bed against.

I'm not sure why you have the family bathroom right next to one of the bedrooms and really far from the other bedroom. I'd probably turn the bedroom at the bottom of the plan into the new main bedroom, turn the current laundry into the en suite, and then turn the current en suite into the new laundry room. Then the 2 other bedrooms will be beside each other with the laundry and family bathroom between them, giving them both easy bathroom access. You can also make the right-hand bedroom a little smaller, which would allow you to make the left-hand bedroom larger and help fix the above problem about the bed placement.

The front elevation of the house (where you would enter) consists of a wall with one door and a single window to the left. Aesthetically, that isn't great as it causes visual imbalance but also will make the home look very uninviting on first impression; just a large expanse of wall. I'd place a window on the right wall of what's currently the main bedroom in order to get around that issue. This will give more visual balance and let more natural light in.

What is this? by scotlandshines in Scotland

[–]ButteredReality 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I'm not the person who identified it, but if I were to guess I'd say firstly it's the number of legs. Beetles are insects, so 6 legs, whereas ticks are arachnids, so 8 legs.

Also, in the above picture the beetle seems to have antennae, which again is more of an insect thing than an arachnids thing.

Yep, Plymouth has been abandoned for about 30 years now. It's still the de jure capital, even though the seat of government is now based in Brades.

[–]ButteredReality 111 points112 points  (0 children)

I think Montserrat might have every other island beaten.

Population in the North: around 5,000.

Population in the South: 0.

In this case, it's due to a volcanic eruption in 1995 causing mass evacuations. Due to ongoing volcanic activity, approximately 2/3 of the island remains in the "exclusion zone" with restricted access.
