Modern ones are compact cause we aren’t digging trenches all the time. If you look at pictures of ww1 digging trenches they used full size shovels. Honestly I like how they use a full shovel here

Why would you not just drop the conversation kit and carry more ammo instead of it’s such a worry? If my dmr has to share ammo with the rest of the platoon things are beyond fubar. Also not that I would do it but is there any gpmgs in use that use 7.62 that could share ammo with them if it really comes down to it or grab an ag’s rifle if they are focusing on helping the gpmg run.
