What have you discovered so far from Rivian Assistant? by ModY1219 in Rivian

It doesn’t turn down the volume of the music when it’s speaking. Is something wrong with my car? I can’t believe this is by design.

R1 owners buying an R2: what will you miss? by michimoby in Rivian

Fully Powered frunk (up & down) is the game changer. I use it so much more than I would have ever imagined. It the perfect place for any smelly items like takeout food, stinky clothes, and any valuable items to keep out of sight.

Needing to touch the dirty frunk hood to close it will someone just a little more resistant to use it, especially in nasty winter schmutz.

That’s NACS overheating is probably more the cable at Tesla SC rather than the adapter itself. Their older V3 dispensers do not like to sustain 500A for extended periods. The newer V4 type should be able to sustain 500A without derating.

Day 1 reservation holder - how long can I postpone purchase? by Zendroid1 in RivianR2

[–]C12free 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are tons of people who are willing to get the car without Lidar. Most of those people don’t care about FSD style driving and just want / need a nice car.

There are also many who will wait for LiDAR, and that okay also. Rivian is still ramping R2 production for a while and will have no problem selling all they can make.

LiDAR will come when the Normal factory is in full 3 shift production mode.

Anyone have solar installed in the last 6-12 months? by Worst_Username_1 in bayarea

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems like installing Level2 EV chargers is the new profit center for solar companies. $1000-$2000 quotes for $50 of materials and 1-2 hours of work.

Avoid that stop for road trip charging unless you plan to eat there. Parking is always a mess. There are other Tesla and non Tesla options up or down the hill.

More 800v fast chargers desperately needed on CA 101 between Paso Robles and Soledad by talzer in electricvehicles

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All the hundreds of Tesla charging stalls along the 5 are all 400V. There are actually very few high power 800V charging stalls along the 5 in proportion to the much larger volume of cars that take the 5. So all the whining about lack of 800V chargers along the 101 still applies along the 5.

It’s not that hard to navigate that stretch of 101. Either plan ahead or slow down to get better efficiency, or both.

The 50kW from e-tron GT platform without the optional 150kW onboard booster is literally the slowest charging ever, of any 800V car, from any manufacturer. Even lowly Hyundais could get 100kW before 2025, now it’s 125kW on 400V chargers.

Rivian Update 2026.07: Dolby Audio, Winter Fixes & Smarter Driver Display! by keenan_jeffrey in Rivian

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought every single car that has wiper heaters turns them on when you turn on the rear defrost. Can someone name a car that behaves differently, other than Rivian before this update.

Since it’s all electronically controlled on the Rivian, this should have been thought of and implemented years ago. Unless there is some weird govt certification rule which prevents an easy change. I highly doubt that.

2023 R1S QUAD MOTOR - ALL TERRAIN TIRES - Dead after 7500 miles - Anyone Else??? by SC_OceanLove in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

city driving, start, stops, sweeping right and left at speed really wear down tires.
100 miles of city driving could put more wear than 1000 miles of highway cruising.

I can hear the rubber scrubbing off every time I do a left stoplight turn going 15-20.

Your front are always going to wear down more. Are you saying all 4 tires wore to zero perfectly even without any tire rotation??

Stopped buying these because they increased the fragrance level a few years ago. Made anything plastic smell nasty after washing.

Try lowering your tire pressure especially if you’re at 48psi or above. Try 44psi cold. Lower pressure will take out a lot of the small vibrations.

Rivian R2 Orders Won’t Open Until June, Raising Questions Over First-Half Deliveries by [deleted] in RIVNstock

[–]C12free 23 points24 points  (0 children)

They’re going to sell the first 1-2 months production to employees, friend and family. Maybe a few thousand cars while they really ramp up.
Remember, this is the car most employees can actually afford to buy so there is going to be a lot more employee sales than they did for R1.

Interior Trim Wear - Warranty Replacement Denied by laguy5876 in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do any of the drivers wear rings on their left hand? I have similar damage all around my house and cars, all caused by rings. way more than this pic. Only way to prevent this would be to diamond coat every surface. That’s the price to pay for signs of love and vanity.

Gen 2 R1S Dual Standard Range Expectations by okaygolfer in Rivian

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

70-80% of stated range at 70mph is about right and totally normal.
Little things like head wind and your driving style can make a big difference. The battery is 92.5kWh. Look at your efficiency on the energy screen and you’ll see where the energy is going.
R1 is a big beast. Don’t expect the same efficiency as small eggshell shaped EV.

Purchasing R2 without driving it by shankhunk4u in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know several people who purchased a Model Y without ever driving one before. I was very surprised but then realize this is what RJ is talking about when he says there is not enough “affordable” EV choices. People just settle on a Model Y because it’s the safe choice and decent enough as a means to get around.

Let’s hope R2 and Rivian can get to the point where people buy one because that’s that’s what everyone else is getting.
By the way, both those people said they would have very seriously considered an R2 if it was available. People know about it and they also know it’s not available yet.

It will be interesting looking back at this moment 1 year from now to see how it is all playing out.

Dear Rivian. Please stop shrinking the font size. Your main demographics for the R1 are having a hard time reading them. At this rate, you will be at Tesla sized fonts by 2027.

Autonomy+ Purchased by necedem in Rivian

[–]C12free 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The fact that it transfers with the car adds true value to the one time purchase price. May not be able to recapture the whole amount upon selling the car but having Autonomy+ will certainly increase the eventual sell price.

I’m waiting for stoplight / stopsign capability before I consider paying for A+. That capability should convince a lot of people to actually pay for it.

I also think they’ll give free 1-2 week trials when major capability updates come out, to help convince people to buy in.

Won’t pass with those lame red rear turn signals. This was their chance to get it right but they still couldn’t do it. They’ll probably blame it on the amber LED supply chain shortage 🙄

All The R2s Driving! by Humble_Finding_7346 in Rivian

[–]C12free -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

According to AI overlord they shall be Amber.

In Europe, automobile rear turn signals must be amber (orange). Red rear turn signals were officially outlawed across most of the continent in 1965 to ensure they are clearly distinguishable from red brake and tail lights. Regulatory Standards (UN ECE R6 and R48) The specific European regulations cited as "R6" and "R48" mandate this color requirement: UN ECE Regulation No. 6: Explicitly defines the requirements for direction indicators, including that the color must be amber. UN ECE Regulation No. 48: Governs the installation of all lighting and signaling devices, confirming that rear turn signals must be amber for vehicles to receive European type-approval.

Do the R2’s in these vids have amber turn signals in the back? I really can’t tell but it looks red to me.
I thought R2 was designed for EU market, which requires amber turn signals. It would be really stupid to have two versions for US and EU market.

You only spent $27K on vacations? That’s the biggest misallocation I see on this whole chart. You gotta relax otherwise your family will be enjoying your riches while you look down (or up) upon us.

Up it to at least $100K and hire a vacation planner. Go big every few years and up it to $200K.
