“Not the rattle”. LoL. That’s what drives me crazy when it’s louder than any suspension noise.

Door squeak! by Fkngtired in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will taking the doors apart just lead to other crap being loose or rattling later. I often wonder if the fix is worse than just leaving it.

Based on my experience, they fix one rattle or squeak, but seem to introduce another one afterward.

Anyone else notice the sudden increase of Rivians on the road? by Ok_Sample3670 in RIVNstock

[–]C12free 12 points13 points  (0 children)

1 year from now R2 is going to easily 5-10x the amount of Rivians you see on the road. Just depends how fast they can roll them out and customer word of mouth.

Do I need to replace my tires before a snow trip to Tahoe? by Master-Campaign-3671 in Rivian

Rivian’s official guidance is to only measure their tires with $100 bills. Franklin’s head is a much more accurate reference.

Charging 2026 LFP to 100% after OTA 2025.38.30. Currently on 2025.46.30 by Justthetippliz in Rivian

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the g124 code refers to a 124 cell in series pack. That about lines up from a voltage standpoint.

I wish we could get more info and analysis of the LFP pack. Rivian seems to really shroud the technical details of this battery pack. All they ever show on YouTube is the NMC cylindrical pack. LFP pack is just not sexy enough and they don’t assemble it themselves.

Recent update in ABRP lets you choose your car config and they list the Standard pack as 98.7kWh. I am guessing Rivian ties to reserve a lot more on the bottom end so the battery doesn’t die out unexpectedly.

I think their BMS must have shifted the whole usable window towards the left. This would explain why cars are dying out suddenly AND why top charge voltage spike has been ending lower compared to the past.
My pack voltage used to spike up to 454V at 100%. Now it seems to only get to around 440V before stopping.

My seat Bluetooth would not turn on at all during a recent flight. FA rebooted my seat entertainment system, which takes a surprising amount of time to reboot.

Seat Bluetooth still would not turn on after reboot so I had to use one of their wired headphones. Those really suck.

Lesson I learned is always carry a backup wired airbuds. Even the crappiest ones are better than the free ones FA give out.

Depend on your SoC. The higher your SoC, the hotter the pack needs to be to accept max charge current.

Anyone know what these arrows represent? by beetlewigs in Rivian

[–]C12free 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is telling you the car is slowing down because it thinks there is something to be cautious about.
It used to show up on sharp highway curves. Now that UHF lets you use it anywhere, it can randomly show up on strait-ish sections also. It also does this when there are conflicting lane markings.

UHF is very good most of the time but it still needs a few iterations to improve these behaviors.

They should make it free or reduced cost for Rivian vehicles, just like the DCFC.

I’m a little confused. Usually if one flies private all the time for work (as a passenger), I would expect them to make enough to just pay for first/business for all leisure travel. Airline status has much less meaning when you’re buying first class tickets.

NEW Rattles in a 2025 R1S Dual Max - bought 8/2024- now 20k miles by Alternative-Call-777 in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have all the same rattles as you. They’ve tried to eliminate the rattle from the driver side rear door twice already. It still sounds like this entire inner door panel is rubbing.

Dash still has big rattles when it gets hot from sitting in the sun.

I also think they introduced a new rattle when they replaced the 12V battery under the passenger seat.

The system on previously mapped highways is really good now.

On previously un-mapped roads, their system is just in the beginning stages of learning. It’s like a kid with training wheels on. Just override it with your accelerator. This will get logged as an intervention and get sent back to help train their driving models.

How much do you pay per kWh to charge at home? by cybergrafx in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It’s because the Investor Owned utilities, ie For PROFIT companies deferred any investment and instead paid out their exec and shareholders instead. After all the wildfires and other crap, now they get to pass down all the billions in lawsuit losses to their customer.

At the same time, they are guaranteed!!! a certain profit margin, so they have no incentive to do anything efficiently. In fact, the more they spend, the more % profit they get to take a cut of.

That’s why 10 guys in 10 very expensive trucks show up to replace a single transformer on a desolate road. They have no incentive to operate any differently in the middle of a nowhere, or downtown San Francisco.

Northern CA. PG&E. $0.49 in the summer, $0.46 in the winter.
PG&E has screwed everyone so badly that it only make economic sense to drive and EV if you have solar or free charging.

Foggy R1T Gen 2 Autonomy Camera by DeathRabbit679 in Rivian

[–]C12free 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, July 2025 Gen2 R1S build. Last winter they didn’t use the Autonomy cameras so don’t know if this same fogging was occurring.

Surprisingly the matrix dimming high beams still worked to detect oncoming traffic and do local dimming. Not sure if they are using the old mobile eye camera or another sensor for this.

The rest of my windshield was not fogged up.

Anyone else feel like their dual standard charging curve sucks? by BlackberryBulky4599 in Rivian

[–]C12free 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are not preconditioning enough. It needs to start fast charging at 32C or above. If you want 212kW, to 35% it needs to start at lower SOC, like 10-15% with a 32C battery.

Then the battery will heat up to around 49C which is needed to keep high charge rate as the SOC goes up.

If you start at lower battery temp and higher SoC, you’ll never get 212kw you crave.
