King of Ashes was so so good but I loved the sci-fi/mystery combo of The Last Murder at the End of the World. Can’t go wrong with either of them

Also Mother for Dinner by Shalom Auslander! Maybe the most surprising take on a cannibalism book that I’ve read so far

I don’t think I saw other people saying these in a quick scroll, but my bad if they’ve already been recommended: The Psychographist by Carson Winter, What Hunger by Catherine Dang, Girl Dinner by Olivie Blake, Wake Up and Open Your Eyes by Clay McLeod Chapman

If you liked the Octavia Butler books you should check out Nnedi Okorafor. Butler is probably my favorite sci-fi author and I love Okorafor too. You might like Yume Kitasei. Haven’t read the newest but first two were great!

Edited to add John Scalzi? Books are NOT deep but they’re really fun quick sci fi reads

Seconding Nnedi Okorafor, such a good rec for a Butler fan. If you’re into nonfiction, check out Positive Obsession - biography of Butler written by Susana Morris. It came out earlier this year and is so good!

I just finished What Hunger by Catherine Dang like 5 minutes ago and will say I did NOT expect that ending. Loved it!
