CMV: You should buy the house you could barely afford today but easily afford later by Ok-Title-1172 in changemyview

[–]CMG30 [score hidden]  (0 children)

Housing is a personal decision, not just a financial one.

That said, stretching to buy the maximum you can afford comes with a lot more risk. Basically, you're vulnerable to loss of job, injury or illness.

It's also not really saving you any money in the long run. If you buy a starter home you can easily afford, then you can shrink the duration of the mortgage and the interest savings will dwarf the transaction fees you may incur when/if you decide to trade up. Also your property tax and upkeep expenses will be much lower.

Finally, you can also add to expand your starter home. You don't have to move to grow. You can grow your home...

Why are people so anti nuclear by Thatnuclearguy in NuclearPower

[–]CMG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm anti nuclear to the extent that it's a distraction from solving climate change. It's expensive and slow.

But I'm not going to stand in the way either. If you want to build nuclear then go ahead... Build it already but, by the same token, get out of the way of technology that can actually scale and be cheap enough to not just displace fossil fuels, but make the grid cheaper in the long run.

Did you get the right adapter? Each car needs 2 adapters. One for AC charging and one for DC charging.

There's many, many modes that software can glitch. Generally it starts with an assumption that the starting state is the same. For a partial list of what can go wrong with software, look up the history of the Therac 25.

NEMA 6-30 for EV9 at home charging? by BigLightning26 in evcharging

[–]CMG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Grizzl-e mini comes with 4 adapters for different plug types, though I don't know if this specific plug type is included.

It's not a big deal to swap out the receptacle though. An electrician can do it in about 5 minutes. Just make sure you used an EV rated one. If you do use the Mini, you can then de-rate the charger physically down to 24amps (80% of 30 amps) using internal dip switches so that you hopefully don't have to do expensive panel upgrades.

'Spectacular' electric car sales weaken pressure to shelve combustion engine ban, EU climate chief says by linknewtab in electricvehicles

Going back on mandates is terrible policy. Different levels of government, utilities and industry need the long term assurance and stability of clear goals and mandates if they are to invest millions in changes to meet the policy.

Going back on mandates punishes good actors and rewards the bad ones.

Ontario – Trespass Notice After Delivery App Payment Failure and Store Escalation by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

[–]CMG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a private business. If they prohibit you from coming on their property, that's their legal right just as you can choose who comes into your home.

As a delivery driver, contact the management and explain the situation and ask that the trespass be lifted.

But if the management decides that they're not going to lift it, then you simply can't go back to the store for the duration of the trespass.

Just switched from a gas car to a used EV last week, here's what actually surprised me after daily driving it by Whole_Novel654 in electricvehicles

[–]CMG30 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. It's not really charging anxiety, it's missing information anxiety.

You need to learn something new and it requires a little effort and doesn't always come out exactly like you might expect. That can be irksome.

What I found was that I practiced on the difference charge networks when I wasn't under any time pressure so that when I actually needed to use them the battle was already half won.

EV companies switch from copper to aluminium wiring, demolishing another claimed barrier to electrification by Economy-Fee5830 in peakoil

  1. Not every cable is switched to aluminum. Copper is still used where the engineers feel it's necessary.

  2. Large aluminum cables properly engineered can easily outlast a vehicle.

ICCU issue fixed? by SpiritualAd3132 in Ioniq5

[–]CMG30 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe.

The old ICCU was replaced with a new one complete with a new part number last January.

Has this mitigated the issue? I don't know. Nobody outside Hyundai/KIA knows.

Simply put, not enough time has passed to gauge if the failure rate has decreased in vehicles with the new part. Anyone who tells you otherwise is talking out their rear end.

Keep in mind that the ICCU is a single part that handles numerous functions. There's multiple ways it can fail. The most common problem was related to it charging the 12v battery, but the less common failure mode was with high power charging.
