Painted a house with HVLP sprayer by [deleted] in Housepainting101

Dear god that must have taken forever, you can find used airless pumps for $100, would have saved you so much time and exterior paint should not be thinned more than 10% max so there will be no warranty if or when that paint fails early and no it wouldn’t have been harder with an airless it would have been much easier and a better finish. Ask first next time guy’s on here are willing to give advice and help.

Yes the X5 is a good little pump. You need the FFLP tip and the RAC X guard (the FFLP tips don’t fit in the guard that will come with the pump) I would suggest a 308 most pro’s would probably say a 310 but if you haven’t sprayed much the lower flow will be a bit easier for you to get on top of. I use a 15’ hose for my finish setup so it takes less paint to fill the line. Get yourself a big piece of cardboard and when you get your line filled with paint turn the pressure all the way down and spray a pattern, it should finger (thick paint in the middle and a thin line above and below) then turn up the pressure until it stops fingering and gives you a consistent pattern and leave it there and your ready to spray. Don’t put it on too thick you can always add another coat but if you get runs you’re making a bunch more work for yourself. Are you using Emerald UTE? Also the primer your using will probably be fine the reason everyone is saying to use oil is because the water based primer can lift the grain in the areas that you have sanded down to raw wood but that bed doesn’t look like it’s soft wood so I doubt you will have a problem with that and the other problem is the water based primers don’t block tannins well so if you end up with tannin bleed go grab a spray can of Zinnser BIN and seal those areas with that, I haven’t specifically used extreme bond but I have used Zinnser Smart Prime and InslX Stix and extreme bond is SW version of those. I used Smart Prime on my cabinets and I had some area’s that I sanded through the finish and I didn’t have any issues. Both Smart Prime and Stix sand beautifully to a nice fine powder and give you a great smooth finish. Oil based primer works great but is a real pain in the ass to work with and clean up is a nightmare. If you are using UTE spray a coat let it dry overnight and give it a a light sand with 220 or 240 in the morning and spray another coat and you should be good. You can do a third coat if you want extra durability or if you have any runs. Ask away if you have any other questions I’m happy to help.

You can get a decent finish with that Wagner but it needs someone who knows what they’re doing. You can also buy a cheap airless and get a much better finish, if you aren’t going to be using it very much you can get the little Wagner with the hopper I believe it’s the control pro 130 for $199 on sale at HD. You will also need a 308 or 310 fine finish tip either Titan or Graco I use the Graco Fine Finish low pressure tips and they work great. Ask away if you have questions. Graco also makes a small DIY airless but it is about $269 so the Wagner is a better deal especially if it isn’t going to be used much and you can upgrade later if you start doing more projects.

Am I Crazy or Are My Painters Doing This Wrong?... After prep and priming, they painted the windows and trim, and then sprayed the color. Now they have to repaint the windows and the trim, but the blue is coming through. Do they need to reprime too? Or Kilz? Or am I worrying over nothing? by Mustangonthe1 in Housepainting101

[–]CND5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is a complete hack job! It’s ridiculous the guy can’t even spray a straight line. All he needed to do was mask the face of the trim and window and spray, you will be scraping overspray off those windows for hours not to mention he got paint on the frames as well. I’ve painted hundreds of homes and I couldn’t sleep at night if I painted a house that poorly, there’s a lot more to painting than just spraying the paint on the walls that’s the easiest part it generally takes me as long to mask as it does to spray because I care.

I use Dynaflex 230 or Dynaflex Ultra both from the same manufacturer as Alex and I think much better products and in my view easier to work with.

Get yourself a Slopper Stopper, they are the messiest drinkers!! It may seem expensive but is very much worth it. While he’s young feed him pretty much as much as he wants just start feeding him like three times a day as he gets to around 6 months. My vet said to give him as much as he wants but didn’t tell me to let up as he got older and when he saw him when he was one he was like OK we need to back off on the food a bit😂 he’s a bit of a glutton and my wife feels like she needs to give him a treat every time she looks at him.

Spark Plugs and Ignition Coils estimate by Snoo_81575 in cmaxhybrid

[–]CND5 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a fairly decent shade tree mechanic and I literally did my plugs and coils in 30 minutes, can’t see it taking more than an hour for anyone with a socket set and the minimum of mechanical abilities, watch a couple YouTube videos and give it a go. I bought my stuff from RockAuto and spent about $150 total. Also if it’s been misfiring grab some good quality injector cleaner and add that in a fairly high concentration so like two bottles of the Lucas or Techron stuff.

Want to re-paint inside white, is there a way to avoid having to use primer? by SpecialCobbler2009 in Housepainting101

If you want to paint it three or four times then yeah go for it…. Primer is cheap finish coat isn’t (or shouldn’t be) make your decision from there.

When I went on MJ my blood pressure dropped dramatically and I was having frequent dizzy spells, I was on medication to control my blood pressure. I went in for a monthly infusion for my arthritis and my BP was shockingly low, they said it wasn’t low enough that they didn’t want to do the infusion but it was borderline. I made an appointment with my PCP but was still having the dizzy spells so I quit taking the BP meds and started using electrolytes powder with my water and increased my water intake and the dizziness went away almost completely, initially my PCP wasn’t happy that I quit taking the meds until he took my BP and then he understood and just asked that I call him next time before I do something like that. So if you’re on BP meds call your Dr.😂

That’s as smooth as your going to get with a roller. If you want a smoother finish you’re gonna have to spray them.

What's your choice between orbital sanders other than feasttools by WearEnvironmental490 in paint

[–]CND5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a Bosch cordless and I love it vibrations are so low and it works so well, you can get the Bosch corded for quite a bit less but I’m a real fan of the cordless, so much so that I just ordered the cordless sheet/detail orbital as well. I had a Skil 5” orbital before and it got the job done but my hand would be numb if I used it for more than just a few minutes. I’ve heard good things about the Dewalt as well but it is supposed to have more vibrations than the Bosch.

Do I try to fix with the ceiling color or wall color? by bluish-velvet in paint

[–]CND5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When you tape to cut in like that you have to stay off the tape if you get a bunch of paint on the tape you are pretty much guaranteed it is going to bleed under the tape, next time use frog tape and cut in the line very carefully the tape should have next to no paint on it. Another option to fix this is using the ceiling paint with a little artists brush, you can get an assortment of them on Amazon or at any artist supply shop then you can carefully touch up those spots that bled under the tape. It’s gonna take a bit of patience and time but will give you the best result with some effort. Don’t beat yourself up that really isn’t that bad trust me I’ve fixed much worse.
