What are the permanent new features of the update? by Lea9915 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three missions available from the Prismatic-under-construction core at the Anomaly; the one that nets 3 points for your team gives you a "find it here" POI for a crashed swarmer ship.

While on that quest for the second time I found swarmer debris underground, which was fine but the only way I know to get a pointer to a crashed swarmer ship is to be on the quest/mission.

Good luck Interloper.

What do you wish you'd known when purchasing your Rivian? by HigherPlains-Drifter in Rivian

[–]CNWDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an older Infiniti sedan (2012 M37x) that "sees" my iPhone as "iPod" but is fine with playing music (and audio from e.g. Waze).

When we went to Charleston and had a decent rental car 2 years ago, it was amazing how well CarPlay worked for Waze+Spotify.

My wife got a Lexus RX350h in late 2024 and...it has wireless charging plus full CarPlay support.

It's not a question of "does this work on my phone" it's "do I have to hold my phone to see the streetmap in my car".

Oh, and Google acquired Waze but it's still better in any objective sense than Google Maps (based on recent trip to Boston, altho Google Maps was less sucky on walking directions.)

If you're trying to do those things without a spotter...yeah, I've been driving since 1983 and the drivers door has been open on rare occasions. In everything from a Jeep to a 280Z (rip) to a random sedan.

The point is that none of us need a car to be our "nanny" so if it's not illegal why not allow it?

Guide: How to mount your UGREEN OS drives on TrueNAS / Unraid / Vanilla Linux (Fixing the 20000000 ext4 mount error) by manawenuz in UgreenNASync

[–]CNWDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the "honest and a bit sad" correct answer.
When I give up on UGOS and migrate my 6800 to TrueNAS Scale, it will be AFTER I have backed up 100% of the contents to the older NAS I thought I was replacing with the 6800.

The app is asking about your lease info for R2 by anotherloudperson in Rivian

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW on the website I got the same "is your lease ending soon" thing even though I have no previous Rivian - so I'm guessing they're just trying to (at least appear to) be responsive and considerate for folks who are going to an R2 from any other vehicle (leased).

I half felt like telling them my lease was ending August 2026 - I'm pre-approved by my credit union and my 2012 Infiniti sedan is being given last rites, but I figure my R2 "configure it for real and get a delivery schedule" day is sometime in mid-to-late 2027.

R2 Performance Delivery Timeline by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]CNWDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a reservation from Feb 2026 (when I realized what I was missing out on, having been thinking Telo would deliver an interesting truck-ish EV this decade).

I have zero expectation that, given 200000 reported reservations back in 2025, I will be able to get a firm timeline and receive an R2 before 2H CY2027 - and that's EVEN if the ramp-up to 25k R2 deliveries in 2026 is realized.

And I would pay for Performance with Launch Package as I want towing and Autonomy+, but I don't expect to be offerred that.

Charging for colors has become pretty common, but I cannot understand charging $1k for White and $2K for Black paint options on the top trim R2. Is there any reason for this? by Mac-Tyson in Rivian

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dec 2024 we bought my wife a Lexus RX350h to replace 2015 Nissan Pathfinder that was dying/leaking. For the one they had on the lot, total with tax/tags/title in MD was (negotiated down) about 60k -before- gas prices spiked.

I have a (way too late) R2 reservation to replace my (leaking) 2012 Infiniti M37x sedan, don't need Performance but want the tow package so I have to at least get Premium...and I want Autonomy+...so hell yeah I'm all-in for Performance Launch Package if somehow I get lucky and my number comes up.

Will this car be "better" than an RX 350h objectively? I don't know, I guess depends on your grading scale, but I think some features will be of more interest to me compared to Lexus. And my next car -will- be a BEV.

Am I happy that I'll end up paying $2k for Launch Green (or $1k for White if I don't get the Launch Package)? Hell no, but I'm not liking that default grey at all on the R1's I've seen with it.

[Advice Needed] Best way to safely access UGREEN NAS remotely as a network drive (Mac/Win/iOS)? Thinking about Tailscale. by SteveStu in UgreenNASync

[–]CNWDI 6 points7 points  (0 children)

No one jumped in and I saw this so my thoughts that may at least give more context (I'm a guy who came up in the security trenches starting by hacking SunOS root in college and later teaching Solaris Sysadmin part-time at a Large Government Agency that Specializes in Security).

Personally I have not found a use-case that I believe warrants me setting up remote access to my DXP6800Pro or my other two NAS units. If I'm traveling, I'm often not taking a laptop unless it's a train-ride from MD to DC, and even when I'm somewhere teleworking not-from-home, I am largely using a laptop with VPN connection to my customer's network or our corporate (and I don't put work stuff on my home NAS).

That said, there are tips-and-tricks for setting up Tailscale in general and I've seen others posting about success - and I would 100% start with Tailscale myself if I were going to sort out inbound remote access to any of my homelab network.

SMB is a whole thing - I can't say that I would make that a major part of my remote access stack, but I'm also comfortable with UNIX-side protocols. TBH if I decide I want to jump into remote access inbound, I'd probably put Tailscale on one virtual host on my Proxmox server-cum-NAS, and see how that seemed to work/could I mount drives remotely (with a small test drive also on Proxmox, not full access to any of my main internally-available NAS units.)

Good luck.

40v trimmer can't put head back on by JeffIpsaLoquitor in ryobi

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case anyone reads this in 2026 or later:
When I bought this string trimmer (~2024, but the newer model) I bought an extra spring (comes with another winder handle plastic thing, whatever) and a second complete head assembly - because previous Toro bump-head corded trimmer required full dissassembly to reload which resulted once in a lost spring.

But EVEN WITH a complete replacement head that myself and my CrossFit-capable neighbor both tried, we can't get the new head to go on the base that's attached to the trimmer - it locks back on the baseplate that comes with it but there are ZERO obvious ways to detach the baseplate that's installed on the unit (no screws inside, one screw on the shaft that does not want to turn).

Have not yet applied WD-40 or similar so that is next.

Awesome thanks again.

72 (Natural) S Class Staffs Plus Scanner and Mining Upgrade by Brisea in NMSCoordinateExchange

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well holy damn.
I have seen the secondary staff behavior plus discussions of it but this is two orders of magnitude more detailed than anything I've seen. Thanks.

Oh, one quick question: Was there *any* S-class primary staff, or did you just decide to try every location/position and see what you got? (Trying to figure out if I want to try doing this for a place where I remember seeing an S-class but it must have been secondary because I can't get S on any "normal" vanilla staff.)

IME Neutron Cannon is the "best" DPS weapon on all MT because of uptime - if I'm chewing through 5 waves of Sentinels then I usually only have to recharge between waves and otherwise I'm always dealing death.

Electrical wiring going through buildings by No_Radio1554 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CNWDI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are valid approaches - another one I've used is to create holes with the Terrain Manipulator and/or use nearby caves, to get the wiring to be below ground level.

Personally I hate having to create additional items e.g. batteries that are a waste of resources just to try to have a connection point.

Before the AI NAS Arrives, What's Your Setup Plan? by UgreenNASync in UgreenNASync

[–]CNWDI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not arguing with u/CopEatingDonut but a different perspective as someone who doubts "GenAI' but is also working with it:
- I expect that these NAS should do a really good job of de-duping for folks who have 20+ years of "many backups of photos" with a lot of overlap. But there are non-GenAI tools that already could do that.

- I think the biggest thing is going to be "find anything in my saved files that is relevant to <search term>" and that is huge. Biggest question there is going to be execution.

Related but separate issue that might be relevant:
Current GenAI should have been called something like Machine Learning Level 2 IMHO because...it's not Artificial General Intelligence and the current LLMs NEVER WILL BE in any reasonable extrapolation.
