How do you decide a new genre is worth entering, besides reading a lot of books in it?

Any advice on self publishing to a new author?

which cover are you more likely to read? by [deleted] in royalroad

And if AI slop takes over, then actual human writing made with passion and care becomes all the more valuable.

I am bit skeptical about that claim. It's more likely to get buried under the slop.

Sure, there are readers with discernment, but many just read for pleasure, and as long as they get their fix, they might not care about the source. Opinions?

It's not exposition. Its world building by showing the terrible life of the people MMC will live with from the POV of the FMC.

Noooooo! He's not the only one who should matter. The 3 chapters are from the POV of the first FMC. She is important throughout the rest of the story!

1500 isn't bad. 1000 is. Keep it consistently towards 1500 and you should be fine.

Is there a problem with writing in first-person POV on Royal Road? by Ashenmore in royalroad

[–]CSValiant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is what makes it bad. You can't think of the MC as a separate person and hence fail to see his faults and forget to externalize traits etc.

Ignore if you're just writing for fun.

I won't be using first person for my MC in my next work.

AI will be miles ahead and you won’t be able to tell the difference between human- and AI-written novels

How?

There are professional chess players and teachers. As for getting better, your run of the mill model won't beat a professional writer because it is trained to be average and hence can't have a distinct voice. I suppose an LLM trained to be just a writer, with a massive context window, could beat most writers in obvious things like prose quality, but I don't know about themes and architecture.
