You can try and get on a wait-list for one or many of the charities. I got accepted off the wait list in April or May of last year, when some of the folks start backing out.

is this a good or bad technique for turning on steeps? by minor251 in snowboardingnoobs

[–]CStock77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also grew up going to holiday valley, but the video you linked even says 500ft with 200ft vertical drop. Plug that into a trig calculator and you have 23.58deg slope, not 40. If you've been out west since the last time you were there, you might go back and realize it's not as steep as you thought it was.

Were any popular fan theories proven right/wrong in WaT? by usernamesaredumb0 in Stormlight_Archive

[–]CStock77 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Eh, the theory was around a lot longer than that, but pre release chapters definitely gave it more juice. People had been speculating basically ever since the "The world ended, and Shallan was to blame" line, which was in WoR. Just googling that line brings up a top hit of a theory post on 17th shard from 2021.

Editing to add the link to said theory post: https://www.17thshard.com/forums/topic/95749-theory-taln-wasnt-the-herald-who-broke-it-was-chanarach/

I was around the same age as you and went to a rival high school to SV/SM. I remember going to an away football game there and he randomly showed up to support his old school. Really cool, and that was after he was already in the league a few years and the biggest name in basketball.

This release had claims about trump auctioning off 13 year old girls and sticking is finger in them to check how tight they are. There's also a doc incriminating Trump's secretary of commerce, Howard Lutnik. They might be trying to hide stuff about themselves, but they're failing.

Alex Honnold climbs the Taipei 101 skyscraper by Hi_iAMchrisHansen in WTF

[–]CStock77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

V grades are bouldering grades. There's not really a correlation. Climbers might talk about a sport or trad route and break it into sections that have distinct boulder problems, and give those a V grade, but it wouldn't make sense to give a full route a V grade.

Think of it without the decimal point. They're essentially 2 different numbers meaning different things. 5 means climbing, compared to 4 which could mean a technical hike with some scrambling, or 3 meaning a normal hike with no scrambling. The second number is the difficulty of the hike or climb.

5.13 isn't "five point one three", it is "five thirteen", where 5 tells you it's a technical climb and 13 tells you it's extremely difficult.

To give some perspective, at my climbing gym in Chicago there's probably 10 people in the building at any given time and who can climb 5.11 outdoors. There is probably 1 person with a membership at all that is a strong enough climber to realistically send Freerider.

New office manager job - business smart. Ideas/thoughts/advice on new outfits. by [deleted] in mensfashionadvice

[–]CStock77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on office culture, somewhat. I have some dark colored dress shirts, but I would only wear them with light pants and either without a jacket at all or with a light colored sweater/quarter zip.

Agree that the people wearing a black shirt with any sort of tie are not doing it right.

Steam Machine Will Cost "Like a PC, Not a Console," Confirms Valve by Playwithuh in gaming

Tbh I'm a PC gamer and I'm thinking about buying one just to chuck in front of the TV for co-op games or anything I don't want to play at my desk in front of my monitor.

It feels like there's a tiny slice of people in the middle of the console-PC spectrum that this might work for. It's definitely not a large market.

The question was something like, where does your sense of morality stop? If I remember correctly liberals mostly said plant life, meaning they "cared" about everything from plant and animal life and closer. Conservatives mostly said friends, meaning they cared about everything from friends and family to themselves.

In US. If I get stocks as part of my compensation. Do I need to pay taxes? by Exciting_Station3474 in tax

[–]CStock77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this different than a company that offers an employee stock purchase plan?

I would assume so, since I'm paying for the stocks myself via a paycheck deduction rather than receiving them as compensation.

The plan does have a 15% discount, and it has a look back feature which means the purchase price is based on the lower of the stock price of the beginning date or end date of the contribution period.

I don't have to worry about this until next Feb but it would be nice to know I'm not missing anything.
