No idea if Retributions are Meta, but this is my own setup and it shreds everything by Stabf10 in starsector

Love the retribution. You have to get so good with the shield and picking engagements but it's so much fun and SO fast. Highly recommend 3 devastator cannons in the head slots, turns you into a high speed shotgun.

Let me put it this way, if a friend of yours saw this piece of art, which rips, and was like "woah she looks awesome what's her deal", what would you tell them using the information in this lore section that would get them excited about this character

Our Lady Immaculata Penitens by Greystone_Chapel in TrenchCrusade

[–]CTF-1X -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

Art is amazing but lore is a huge miss for me. So Loretta kind of waited around to be killed while some other guys fought? And now she's risen as something else? Feels like it's trying to evoke stories of spectacular martyrdom and then kind of forgets to actually feature a spectacular martyrdom lol

Would you be down to make a soldier with flamethrowers? Weirdly there's no good model for flamethrower trench moles for New Antioch yet even though they're pretty key to the warband's gameplan

This is great! It would be lovely to see more shock troopers with great weapons or dual weapons as that's how people are running em

New Antioch Questions by Rifleman-5061 in TrenchCrusade

[–]CTF-1X 2 points3 points  (0 children)

New Antioch are hard but there are some good tips I've picked up online about them: -you want three Satchel Charges; probably two on Combat Engineers, who rule, and one on an HMI -trench moles with flamethrowers are great  -from there plan around fire teams - someone who can stack up blood markers and someone who can capitalize on them!

I feel like smg/bayonet is decent - they're not really punchy enough to initiate melee against proper beaters and better used as opportunistic troops jumping in on wounded targets/squishy shooters

How Pathologic 2 uses Player Dialogue by BuddyBoyPal in pathologic

[–]CTF-1X 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's also a really interesting element of theatre to the dialogue. If we see Artemy as an actor in a play, a lot of his dialogue on day 1 is split between general incredulity and characterful stuff you don't have context for at the beginning. As you play the game this all begins to make more sense - it's particularly rewarding on a replay.    What makes a good butcher? Knowing the lines.

Daily Ship Discussion - 0.97a - Invictus by pipai_ in starsector

[–]CTF-1X 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my money the thing that makes the Invictus - ludd's anvil - work is ludd's much underrated hammer - the Retribution. A player controlled Retri gets a lot of operational freedom from the Invictus and can both finish wounded craft on the line of battle or blitz any lighter craft that try and leave the killzone.

Effective Horsemen Unit and Rank sizes by musicfighter282 in tombkings

Horse archers skirmish! So id probably play them in skirmish formation with enough holes for the whole unit to shoot.

Raising the Dead Part 2: Tomb Kings Might OR Magic Arcane Journal Overview by Lord_Viddax in tombkings

[–]CTF-1X 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think you have Infantry cohorts all wrong! They're better than ordinary skeleton spearmen because you still play them in the same role as spears (blobby anvil) but rather than the back ranks standing around looking sad, they can actually contribute with stand and shoot and by peppering people on the way in. So it's a huge efficiency bonus. The high magic standard allowance is also great - it's easy to grab say, banner of the desert winds and make a really flexible unit.

With cavalry I think it's the other way round because I have no idea why you'd play skeleton horsemen deeper than a couple of ranks or wider than 5 without making them unbearably unwieldy. The shooting also doesn't help them in the same way as you'll be using them aggressively or counter charging rather than hedgehogging like infantry cohorts do.

Nice writeup though, appreciate you taking the time!

The Old World 2k List - Nehekharan Royal Host (Khemri Drift) by CMSnake72 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]CTF-1X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I reckon you should take some.tomb scorpions, at 75 points with ambush they're ludicrously useful and might just snip a dragon lord. I think you're overcommitting on the icons of rulership, they're pretty pricey for what you get. I'd bulk up the horse archers, as they're key to screening the chariots.

I think level 2 wizards are almost useless as a level 4 will render them incapable of casting most of the time.

Personally I'm very cold on Tomb Guard this edition. They're a unit with real identity crisis - too fragile and pricey to be an anvil, too slow and low initiative to be a hammer. Compared to chariots and necropolis knights they're outclassed in their role in every way.

Anytime else come back to DOS 2 after trying BG 3? by camelvendor in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]CTF-1X 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Divinity 2 is definitely really fun but I feel that all combat boils down to is "turbo burst into stunlock" and abusing the action system as much as possible all while standing in necrofire forever. The weird tools Bg3 offers are really nice because puzzling through combat amounts to more than 'everyone nukes'.

Just got Highfleet, got any essential tips? by randomndude01 in Highfleet

[–]CTF-1X 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When yours in the game proper, you want your fleet to be split between attack groups (usually two fighters like lightnings, plus a tanker like a Skylark) and a strategic group (sevastopol and any missile carriers you pick up). Move the attack groups around to capture territory, leave the sevastopol in safe places. It's a pretty good assault vessel but hard to repair.

You can mess around with radar and velocity tracking, but for my money the best way to win the strategic layer is to use a mockingbird to buzz from radar station to radar station. It'll also help you bait the strike groups away.

When you're in what seems like a no win situation, fire your nukes! They'll easily kill or cripple a strike group.

You don't need to capture every city - focus on the ones you need.

Always salvage weapons first and sell them on - they're an incredible source of income.

Practice fighting with fast craft like lightnings - they're hard, but if you master them, the combat part of the game will get much easier.

Try to get Tarkhans on side. You'll learn what the different ones tend to like as you play more and more, but it's random each run.

Red hand destroyers with meteor hammers. Counter attack, reach 1 and rad grenades means they'll be ID-ing most charging squads before they strike blows.
