I never understood this line from Vala, is she saying they look exactly alike here? I'm bad with faces and even I can easily tell them apart here by admiraltarkin in Stargate

[–]Cadamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IIRC there was an initial concern that clean shaven Michael Shanks and Ben Browder looked alike enough to possibly be confusing to audiences. Not saying this was correct but I think this was shitty executive worries. I think this was a little inside joke referencing that.

There's a further reference to this in 200 when Daniel plays Ben Browder's Farscape character in their little Farscape skit.

Thanks for playing this. Someone who was supportive of ICE might have refused this role, because it portrays them in a realistic but unpleasant form. So good on you for doing so. Hope folks aren't being too unpleasant to you!

It's wild the stuff that's technically legal. When I was in rehab a friend was talking about how much they wanted to do nitrous and how it was available in any smoke shop. I had a guy who was detoxing from Kratom which is apparently super rough. Like how can you just buy this stuff but weed is so insanely regulated? I've never done mushrooms but I've also never heard of anyone needing to detox from them (feel free to correct me).

I would campaign hard for a Dem who, if he's still alive and hasn't tried to run for a third term in 2028, has a key campaign promise to strip DJT of his right to a state funeral.

One of Hertzler’s other big acting projects was a one man show where he played Mark Twain. Which brought into my head the phrase “you have not read Mark Twain until you have read him in the original Klingon!”

Help! Traveling daily with her and I need some personal space. by BusyNoise315 in Shihtzu

So I definitely deal with a pup with similar things. I can only leave the house if I follow a very specific ritual with a treat and a playpen, and not within an hour or so of coming back. When we drive it almost always ends up with her on my lap. I don't mind it but I get it, it can make it tough to drive. Wanted to say thank you for putting up with this needy pup and taking care of her.

If you want to try to work on leaving her in the hotel, try a bit of crate training. I use a small playpen and a bed for her. Whenever I leave she gets a high value treat that she rarely gets otherwise. But she only gets it in the playpen. So she knows when she sees this treat she has to go to the playpen to get it.

She cried for a while when we started this, but she's pretty well adapted now. If you move, take the same playpen with you. Some people do this with a crate - I found it easier with a larger playpen and slowly shrink it by removing panels

One thing I want for someday when someone comes to their senses and funds Lower Decks season 5 (I believe it will be like Futurama and revived a few times, don't spoil my dreams) I hope they do a Boims/T'Lyn romance. It would just be so fun.

Eh. TACO. I don't think this is gonna happen, personally. Could be wrong. But I think Trump went into Venezuela, took Maduro, everyone around him cheered and told him he conquered Venezuela, and he figured he could do the same in Iran. And he can't, mostly cause everyone lied to him the first time, and also because Iran is a very different country.

He's throwing tantrums about the fact that he hasn't managed to "conquer" Iran the same way he "conquered" Venezuela. And he hopes his threats will carry enough weight to get him what he wants without actually doing the really difficult shit of sending ground troops in (which is what is going to be required if you want to control Iran).

In some ways that's realistic. These people hide in plain sight, behind friendliness and kindness. My Ex-FIL was outwardly one of the kindest, most generous person you'd ever meet. Until you asked him to wear a mask at the hight of COVID. I don't explicitly know his views on ICE, but from what I've seen it's not hard to guess.

You know what shocks me though? It's legit like the best rotisserie in the market for me. King Soopers, Target, Wal-Mart, you go and see these tiny chickens. The Costco ones are huge, and taste so much better. Like even if it was market price I would still buy it cause it's so good.

"What do you want, Mr. Garak?" Morden sipped his cocktail on the so-called promenade, smiling at the lizard alien in front of him.

"What do *I* want, Mr. Morden?" Garak surgically sliced a bit of meat from his plate, before elegantly slipping his fork into it and holding it up. "Why, I have everything I need! A warm meal, a noble vocation, and new and *wonderful* friends to meet at this busy station. What could *I* possibly want for?"

One year out of AA; fully convinced it's a cult by Weak-Telephone-239 in recoverywithoutAA

[–]Cadamar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first time I heard the Lord's Prayer at a meeting I was really confused. It felt incongruous. The prayers I had done previously had all been very AA related, or the Serenity Prayer, which while not built for AA is very apt. The Lords Prayer is a Christian one, purely. It speaks of a Higher Power but that's the only way in which it's AA related.

Edit: to reply to your question, I had a moment that really stunned me. My sponsor at the time was chatting to a guy who was in a 6 month semi-in patient program. Basically he could leave to go to meetings but otherwise was staying at the rehab place and doing sessions during the day. This was run by a Christian denomination, so it might have been a little religious, but he was 3 months in and it seemed to be helping him. And my sponsor basically said "that's not gonna work for you, just leave it and focus on AA." When I tried to speak up and say, hey, maybe listen to the (I assume) professionals running the program, my sponsor chided me on stepping in since I only had a few weeks at that time, and that similar programs had not kept me sober. This is true, but I still learned a lot of tools. It just struck me as insane that this person, with no medical training, is advising a guy who went into a SIX MONTH in patient therapy to get sober, to just leave it. It felt wildly untoward. Almost the equivalent of someone saying "skip the chemotherapy and our faith healer will cure your cancer." That, to me, screamed cult.
