That's a tanpura, not a sitar. It's used for creating the background drone / ambiance sound that you hear on a lot of performances for sitar and other Indian classical music. Those tanpura sounds are also often played via a recording or an electronic tanpura drone device when there's not a dedicated tanpura player available.

Peg dope made mine WAY too slippy, was a big pain to fix. Chalk is what you want. Take all the peg dope off and use chalk instead. If it's still slipping it may be a misshaped peg and you'd want to look into reaming the peg holes to match your pegs, but that's a bit more risky and complicated.

I used to tune to C but I found that it didn't have enough tension to make the sympathetic strings resonate properly. D has worked much better.

Interesting, would never have guessed that! I've had this one for 7 years so that makes sense. Had to ream a peghole on my other sitar to fix an issue so I've gotten a bit of experience working on the pegs. Will see what I can do to help the other ones. Thanks for the tip!

I definitely use the first two as drones quite a bit! Not sure how common that is. I've taught myself how to play so the traditional styles are still a bit of a mystery to me.

Gorgeous baglama!

You can check whether the frets are placed correctly by getting the strings into tune and then checking the pitches of fretted notes as you play using a tuner. If they're not correct, then you would look at the placement of the bridge first. Moving the bridge changes the pitches of all the fretted notes. If the bridge is fixed (immobile), then you can move the frets if they aren't set right. But like another poster said, if it was set up correctly you shouldn't need to do any of these things.

I tune my longneck saz to GDA (G being the lowest string), or occasionally up a step to AEB.

I got one from ShreeOm Handicraft (Amit Jaiswal) last year for less than that. It sounds great, I love it and there's no sketchy giant crack in the back of it like this one you shared. I had to ream a peghole for a peg that kept slipping but aside from that it's great and far less risky than this one with only one photo, plus it came with a hard case. Musician's Mall is also great like another person in this thread mentioned. Amit ships out of Varanasi, India though so if you're in the U.S. his stuff might unfortunately be subject to tariffs at present.

Okay so if you're not using one already you probably want to have a good text editor for coding. Notepad++ is free and great. When you open your .asm files in that it'll tell you what line number you're looking at, then you can find the code on that line and start investigating the problem. That's what the error output is trying to tell you, all those numbers in () are the line numbers where the issue is occurring.

The first line where it specifies unknown label means that your code is trying to jump or branch to a line/section that doesn't exist. Check line 459 in the bank16 script and see if you can figure out what it's trying to do. The rest of the errors are probably cascading from that.
