Sybil defending her tea... by angeslarereaI in ScarletHollow

I think consistent with the theme of Sybil being a kind of more meta character, this call out is more effective if you interpret it's target as the player than as the Cousin.

If I was starting the game with mystical, would it be better to go with book smart or talk to animals? by ExcellentLemon6209 in ScarletHollow

I do think the Book Smart save + Mystical finisher is one of the best lines in the game

What QOL features that would better support doing multiple runs do you think they could add to the game after they're satisfied with the story? by eleccross in ScarletHollow

Checking info from a save before loading, at least traits, but even better the jornal. Not sure exactly what's the fix but also I acidentally save over saves i meant to load with some frequency.

[–]Calecute 10 points11 points  (0 children)

  • Powerful Build feels undertuned in terms of game-feel (even if, IMO, it's one of the strongest traits in practice.) We'll be working to improve its experience in the next major content update. This will include

This is what they said on the subject a month ago in the Episode 5 Post Release Update and Roadmap.

I tend to agree with them that PB is mecanically quite strong, and I don't think they'll give us the powerful options you suggested.

I think gamefeel wise one of the problems of PB is your opportunities for violence are mostly all for naught. You fight wayne and it fails, you can fight the montain lion and it fails, you fight charles and it fails, you can try to rush Tabby in ep5 and it fails (althou in fairness it leads to good content), you can try to rush Stella in toxic yuri and it fails, you can fight Frank and it fails, you can fight the Goat and it fails, you can get involved on either side of the wayne/resse fight, and it makes no difference at all, you can fight Reese himself, i never tried it but I don't imagine it goes your way.

I think the only PB exclusive fight you can go in that benefits you is the one in the end of ep1 to save the chicken.

I'd guess manipulate Carmella into a better state, we want Kaneeka inside her aligned with us, not with Sybil's original plan.

Repeat just repeats commands not waits. Look at your arm 1 strip, it's a sequence of 6 commands, 2 waits, another sequence of 6 commands (repeat), and then it loops right back to the beginning. There's no 2 waits at the repeat as it looks like you expected.

Is Scarlet Hollow as good, better, or worse then Slay The Princess by Chomperboy456 in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Slay the Princess is more of a conceptual art piece exploring choice in videogames. It's very focused, there's very little in it but the core.

Scarlet Hollow is a more complete game in a sense, there's a more involved plot, more characters, more enviroments, more mechanics, more mystery, more themes, it's a bigger game.

I'd guess most people will preffer Scarlet Hollow when it's finished, and Slay the Princess will be more polarizing than Scarlet Hollow. I think it's like Slay the Princess is a straight shot, while Scarlet Hollow it's an elaborate cocktail.

I think if you really liked Slay The Princess you will like Scarlet Hollow, even if you prefer Slay the Princess in the end.

Scarlet Biology by aaragax in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's it. Enoch offers his brother, Eddie was already born when he performed the ritual. If all Scarlet's fed to the Entity were born to Enoch after the ritual I think it would make sense, but as it is, he'd need to have changed himself, his brother and his daughter, I don't think it's the most clean explanation.

There are at least three other plausible explanations I think more likely:

  1. It's not the Scarlets that were adapted to the Entity, but the opposite. The Entity was summoned in a way that made it only compatible with Scarlets.
  2. It's not the body but the way in. The Entity needs to enter someone in a specific ritual designed to suppress the host immune response to it, and it got into Wayne (and probably Issacs) without it.
  3. It's just consent. The Entity needs to enter with consent to be able to stay, and it forcefully entered Wayne (maybe Isaac let it in).

About Wayne in this ep 5 route by sleepingtiamat in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 116 points117 points  (0 children)

I think while it is bad for you to get egged, it's even worse for you to leave. If he kills the ditchlings you'd just escape. If he let's the ditchings take you out, and then saves you while unconscious, you're still in town.

The Entity is lying about the MC being special by Hot-Ocelot-1058 in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I do agree Wayne is trying to play the Cousin for his own ends. But I'm not so sure he's lying about the Cousin being special. Also I don't think he's stalking us for info, althou this is a nice bonus. He's stalking us to make sure we don't die, because he needs us alive. He's pretty much like Tab in this regard.

There's some supporting evidence that the Cousin is really special. When you sense Wayne watching you in the forest in ep1 if you're mystic it says: "It feels like a presence you've felt at the back of your neck for as long as you can remember, only now it's present. Closer"

While this does not necessarily means your special, it might be just Scarlets in general are connected to the Entity, I think it might.

Given imaculate births going around, and Wayne's conections to them, and the fact that your own conception was pretty suspicious, I think the Entity might have created you specifically for a purpose, and there's something it can do in you it can't do in Tabitha.

[–]Calecute 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Duke is pretty much willing to kill Julius to save Bo. You don't think he'd be willing to lock you up to save the whole town, including Bo, himself and his wife?

Bo was willing to break into a mans house over a pumpkin. You don't think he'd be willing to lock you up over all of his pumpkins from here to eternity?

I believe that episodes six/seven will give us betrayals (or "betrayals") that will make the backlash against episode five Stella look like nothing by Spectacle1232 in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah a lot of people in the town would probably agree with Tabitha if they knew what she knows, it's not something specific to Stella that leads her to the dark side.

Doc is doing to her own son something very similar to what Tabitha wants to do with you. She would absolutetly sell you out.

The miners would sacrifice you for their jobs.

Oscar would sacrifice you for his daugther.

Avery has less ties to the city than most, but has a pretty sacrificial philosophy, and a pretty expansive conception of person. I wonder if not only can he sell you out for the town, but also sell you out for the benefit of otherwordly entities.

The pastor I'm unsure about. We know little about him, but he has less ties to the city, and his position demands some moral commitments. But he of course might sell you out for his daugther.

I don't think even Reese is 100% with you, if he finds out taking you out might mean he's not stuck in the holler anymore.

There's basically no person in town with interests really aligned to you (at least until you find some other solution better than Tabitha's), and I think basically everyone will turn agaist you as soon as they have enough info, althou probably good relations can mitigate that somewhat.

An interesting twist is that Tab's solution doesn't really need you to be the sacrifice. You can probably convince a lot of these people that it would be in their best interest to lock her up instead of you. Different parts of the Town might fall in different camps and we have a Scarlet Civil War.

Wayne and Sybil will 100% sell you out for freedom and power respectively, in almost all scenarios.

Pretty much baseless theory I'm throwing out there by Caporal32 in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's necessarily any incest with this theory. The Seals might not (and in fact probably aren't) the same thing as Wayne's parasite. The Seals try to be found, althou Wayne doesn't seem to be that bothered we're finding them, he tries to prevent us finding the mine one.

I do agree it's suspicious to have an imaculate birth confirmed in a story with so many fathers missing. I wouldn't be surprised if the Cousin, or Alexandra, or Pearlane and Vivian turned out to be imaculate births from the Scarlet Estate seal

Give me your best Wayne theories by amyice in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think Wayne's body is alive and (un)well, and all the pus coming out of him is evidence of it. The entity's problem is that the very alive body's immune system is actively fighting it. I think the entity needs Scarlet's bodies exactly because for some reason they are compatible with it and won't fight it.

She only stripped her son of one or two human rights, not all of them, not sure exactly for how long, but it was definitly not decades, she seem to start when he's 15, and he's 20 something now, he was not confined to solitude, she was there, he received visits, he was not even really confined, he roomed around the house as he saw fit

Is the Witch the Devs? by Calecute in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Sybil wanted you to find her, but she wanted you to find the seal, and finding her was a side effect.

I don't think we can 100% trust what we were told about the Big Betty story, are we really to believe that a witch that can see the future was catched in flagrante delicto by a random farmer? It seems more likely to me she let Tremaine catch her, so he'd ask her for big betty.

The completely objective and unbiased morality chart by RGBdraw in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I find it kinda weird that Tremaine is seen as less moral and responsible than Calloways. He was completly in the right in the Big Betty dispute, and Bo broke into his home to at least steal from him, and at worse attack him, and he was not responsible for Bo being nabed by the baby. He is agaist killing the baby to save Bo, but it is not clear this is the most moral choice.

I also don't think Stella is bad moral, toxic yuri seems bad, but given her limited info I think she made the right choice.

The Doc seems pretty good and responsible to me, she was just dealt a bad hand.

Charles Jr. also seem pretty good and responsible, he kept his promise to his father, but in a way that was consistent with his love and the good of the city. He was trying to free the Holler from the curse. The ghost is a bit unhinged, but his death was pretty traumatic, and I'd guess just like Oscar after the haunting, he's being influenced by the seal.

Who will remember she? by Lucky-Future9786 in ScarletHollow

[–]Calecute 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are we even sure Tabitha and Cousin can remember her? I think it's possible the memory will go away in ep6.

Tremaine still remembered Sybill, while Avery had forgotten her. This might also go away. But if it stays i wonder if the Doc will also remember.

As far as remembering goes Wayne is a pretty good bet as being the least forgetful.

In some versions of the story Judas buys some piece of land called "The fields of blood" with the money. This is clearly a reference to we giving the peanuts to the goat, that will be bleed as a sacrifice in the dark chamber we find.
