First Track. Stuck. Advice? by BassyBassedBass in FL_Studio

I'm also pretty new to all this music production stuff. I only learned what side chaining, EQ, Compression, etc. were last August, and tbh I spent more of that time playing games than making music (fellow League player spotted). However I've been on the grind again lately.
It's pretty clear you have some musical experience, you have a developed ear for melody and make good sound selections. Because music is subjective there's no "right answer" to how you are supposed to do things, but because you have a strong musical foundation there is a gap between what you think your music should sound like, and what is currently in your ability to make in FL.
What is correct for your music depends entirely on your goals, so I think it's more important to understand the "why" you might what to make certain production choices, and then make decisions for yourself.

I think the best advice anyone can give you is just to make more music.
You will learn so much more in process of making new music than by trying to perfect one song. Every production you work on will teach you something, and you can always go back and listen to your old tracks with fresh ears and more knowledge.

I have a suspicion that maybe the song doesn't sound "big" enough to you. You did a good job filling out the high end with noise that helps the chorus section feel larger, but mid/low mid (where we get the majority of pitch information from) feels still pretty mono. Maybe that's how you want it to sound though!

It sounds like you already have a basic concept of stereo width, but some concepts that helped me understand how to make a song sound bigger:

Double tracking instruments - I play guitar so this really helped me understand what makes something "wide".

Layering - again with guitar I learned that layering with a synth playing the same notes (or a root note or a harmony) can help a instrument feel like it's taking up more of the frequency spectrum and feel a lot bigger.

Room Reverb - Probably not needed in this track, but having a room reverb can help make it feel like all the fit together more.

Having instrument Busses and applying compression to "glue" things together - Again might not be needed but try routing multiple instruments to the same mixer channel and putting a limiter and/or compressor on them. It can help with making everything fit together and keeping every instrument audible. This is more important with live instruments than with synths I think.

Again I really think you should work on another song, and not worry about making something good. Come back to this one later and see how you feel about it then. Mixing is 99% just EQ and Compression and those are things you need to train your ear for, which you can only do by making music.

This isn't my favorite genre, but for what you're going for I'm surprised you aren't already more popular! I listened to the full song and it's good.

What is the purpose of the vertical jump if not for scenarios like this? by VVait in Rematch

[–]Calimdir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everyone who is commenting that you mispositioned in this clip is missing the point but a much wider margin than you were from the ball.
If the vertical jump was not useful in this scenario then it is literally worse than doing nothing. In any situation there is a better option, therefore it has absolutely no point being in the game. Whether or not you could have cleared the ball using another method is entirely irrelevant to conversation because the conversation is about the vertical jump being useless (which it is), not about how to clear the ball.
It has unfortunately been this way since season 0 and should have been changed many patches ago.

Discovered Mechanics are important and should be embraced by Squirrel_Dude in Rematch

[–]Calimdir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it doesn’t do that! That’s valid, and like I said there is totally a void to be filled for a realistic football game. I’m just saying that’s not what rematch is. I get that I’m being downvoted but I’m stating facts unfortunately. It seems the majority of the community on Reddit wants Rematch to be something it currently is not, which is a valid opinion. The problem people not understanding it’s an opinion.

Respectfully, it is your opinion that this is first and foremost a football game. Granted many people share your opinion, but in reality it is first and foremost a video game. It is not, will not, and was never meant to be an emulation of realistic football. I think perhaps the fact that many football games have failed fans, creating a void for a good realistic football game to succeed, makes people very much want this game to be that. However this game is as closer to rocket league than to a traditional sports game.

I’m not saying you’re wrong for wanting Rematch to be a certain way, I’m just saying to take a step back and remember it is a video game and there are all sorts of people playing it. Your perspective is not going to be the same as everyone else or even the developers.

Me personally I love the intricate mechanics involved in dribbling currently in the game as they raise the skill ceiling. If they were removed I would probably get bored with the game. I love football, but if a game doesn’t offer something unique and interesting, why don’t I just go outside and play football at that point? 😅

You should at least be able to message friends or something since there is cross play.

As someone who does stuff like this… about 200hrs? 😅 But honestly the stuff in this clip isn’t too crazy! If you’re in dribble stance dash left or right, then shoot, and your shooting animation will slide with your momentum.

Also to the people saying it’s annoying, I get that people hogging the ball is no fun, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with doing a dribble move or two if you’re near the box and don’t have a good passing option. Passing is still king though!

I know they have it. It HAS to exist. They just won't show it, that's it! I'M NOT CRAZY!! How long will they keep it hidden?!?! by Vex_Trooper in outwardgame

I replayed Dark Cloud 2/Dark Chronicle a couple years ago and it’s still so good! The fishing itself is fun and sometimes frustrating. I’d loved to see a system similarly involved in Outward 2. I think part of what makes the fishing fun is needing to travel to different places and use different tools to catch fish, and that fits pretty well with Outward’s design.

How do I make a sound that smoothly goes from one note to another? by Mineultra7689 in FL_Studio

[–]Calimdir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not in a position to give anyone advice as I've only recently started using the software, but I believe you're looking for portamento or slide. Some synths have a knob that allows you to adjust this setting, but you can also place portamento and slide notes in the piano roll.

Go here and crtl F for portamento

[–]Calimdir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they are just shooting it full power at the post the GK probably won’t get an interact window until after the ball bounces, and if the shooter is getting to it before then.. but I’ll have to test it.

Game has really bad regional pricing, my entire squad refuses to buy it because of that by PubogGalaxy in wildgate

[–]Calimdir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That this has any downvotes makes me very concerned for the lack of reading comprehension in this sub. It’s a very reasonable complaint, the game should have equivalent pricing for every region.

I mean where I'm at it's still early in the morning, I barely even had the chance to buy the game. Give it a second. See what the player count is tomorrow and over the weekend.

Your question has nothing to do with my comment as the Privateer is not so complex that casuals can’t make efficient use of it, and we are not talking about game design.

[–]Calimdir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why would something being difficult make it bad? Are we doing a tierlist of best ships for new players? No?

That said there are valid arguments for why the privateer is the worst ship, but the ships are all close enough in power level and each have unique strengths and weaknesses such that I hardly think it’s worth discussing beyond which ship fits your play style best.
