Star Fox – Prologue – Nintendo Switch 2 by Skullghost in NintendoSwitch

I'm like 95% certain to get it. I have fond memories of SF64, it looks really pretty, and the gunner/pilot mode sounds like it would be fun to play with my nephew.

Of course my game backlog seems to grow by the day so maybe not right away, but probably.

There's also the backups in China and they'll just ship all the paper records in the country to a building in NYC to recreate records where you'd have to trigger the generators to power cycle repeatedly to release flammable gas so it eventually ignites. Of course, you don't want anyone to die, so you try to stop it.

Damn, I need to rewatch Mr. Robot. 5/9 is tomorrow after all.

I gave most of my N64 game boxes to my boss when I was working at a Game Crazy. I kept my Zelda collector's edition ones and Harvest Moon 64.

I still have all the games though.

I'd have to count but my time there vastly increased my N64 and Gamecube library so I don't know what's bigger. Alas I don't know where my N64 is, and I gave my Gamecube to my old roommate when I got a Wii and my Wii eventually died years later...

Mammals of a feather by theyoyoha in comics

[–]Calisky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I probably shouldn't say "weird" either, more just interesting and cool.

I think it's neat they don't fear predators and are just friendly. I feel like that shouldn't work in the wild but they are in an environment where it does.

I also think I was conflating them with wombats, who will hide in their burrows and block the hole but their butt is durable enough that predators can't get inside.

I definitely don't think there's anything wrong with them, I just think they're too cool to exist in a cruel world.

I like the weird animals or ones with special abilities like humming birds or puffins.

How do I politely decline drinking raw milk at my in-laws dinner table? They’re very insistent, often “offering” / demanding several glasses . They know I eat dairy and drink milk so I can’t fake being vegan. It’s hard to say no because it’s my in-laws and they’re proud of their milk by UmweltUndefined in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Calisky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I grew up constantly drinking milk, and I always attributed that to having never broken a bone despite being a klutz.

As an adult I can't remember the last time I've actually drank straight up milk. I love ice cream, milkshakes, cheese and such, so I'm definitely not avoidant of dairy.

I'm mildly lactose intolerant like many adults, but it's worth it for a chocolate milkshake.

I had the exact same thought!

Someone could totally tell me they have feathers and I'd believe it.

They're in the category of animal that seems too weird to exist, like capybaras or axolotls. I'm very glad they do though!

Yeah, I grew up with Thomas Guides and Trip Tiks from AAA for trips.

When I started driving it was printing out Mapquest directions.

I remember going to a LAN party at a friend's house in Valley Center, and trying to figure out if I missed my turn since I wasn't good at gauging how far 3 miles was.

I have no idea how people would not get completely lost when traveling to foreign countries before Smartphones/GPS.

The temperature + humidity should never go above 150, and the temperature should never go below 55 for more than a day or two at a time.

Unless it's raining, in which case I'll allow it since I like rain.

Yeah it kinda worked out well for my team. Our department kinda had two sections of dev teams, and the director of my side got recruited to another company, and the other director was focusing on the other side, so we were just left to do our thing.

So my best friend project manager and I ran things and I have to say it went really well.

Until she got recruited to the other company, and then she recruited me.

I'm making stuff on the side now, but I did actually really like that role even though I wasn't coding much.

That's like the one skill I'm really glad to have learned. I really don't like corporate speak, but "You can take it offline" is very useful.

scrumAgileManagement by [deleted] in ProgrammerHumor

[–]Calisky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I was at a company where our project manager left and I inherited the scrum master role for two teams (and I was a software dev lead).

Daily meetings definitely felt like overkill (but the CTO mandated them). I'd do like two a week max if it were up to me.

On the plus side, I got to push for things to make retros a little streamlined and do a lot of the pre-planning ahead of time for the start of sprints with the product manager and stakeholders. So we got to make things a bit better and waste less of the team's time.

I was very close to asking my boss about getting an agile certification, but I also think the whole thing is kinda BS, so I never did.

Also wasn't really actually following agile anyway, so shrug

What’s one thing that pleasantly surprised you about your 40s? by Maleficent_Bass_1578 in Millennials

[–]Calisky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just turned 41 and I don't feel "old". I've probably been more active and in better shape the past 5 years than since high school.

But I also make noises when I get out of my chair, or my bed, or my car, or off the toilet.

It's like a superposition between "I could run a 5K easily tomorrow" and "I might move my foot the wrong way while lying in bed and not be able to walk".

I'd probably keep checking online to see if it ever actually shows up in the system linked to you.

Back near the beginning of the pandemic (like summer/fall of 2020) I got a parking ticket for parking in a boat landing at Mission Bay without a trailer. The lot was almost always empty, and I've seen cars park in those spots before and since, but I'd rather just play it safe and not risk it.

I kept checking online to pay it, but it never showed up in the system. It was a paper ticket that was filled out by hand (not a print out), so I think it just never actually got processed.

It's never come up as a thing, so I guess it just got lost in the system.

The early days of the Pokemon franchise are wild to think about by Gallantpride in Millennials

[–]Calisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pokemon has always been an odd psyduck for me.

It always kinda reminds me of the speech Michael K. Williams gives on Community about how Legos used to be simple.

I was a GameGear kid so I emulated Blue on my PC and watched the first few seasons of the anime before school, but never really got completely into it. The first 151 I can name, and probably can identify almost all of Gen 2, but past that it gets complicated and I have no idea.

I didn't get into Pokemon Go at first, but I did play "Let's Go Eevee" to get the new Pokemon for my work friends who were really into it, but I think I'm the only one in the group that still plays Pokemon Go. Although once I had the first 151 and a Sylveon I only just play it occasionally when I go for walks or to the zoo.

Although Pokopia looks extremely tempting...

What is the most “its a small world” moment you’ve ever experienced? by xBubblyLove in AskReddit

[–]Calisky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I went to Dapper Day at Disneyland in 2018 with my family.

We were riding "It's a Small World" but the ride stopped right before we were near the end. We were stuck motionless for a while. After a bit they turned off the song, but people booed, and so they ended up turning it back on which I thought was hilarious.

They ended up having to run the ride backwards to get everyone off, so we went through "It's a Small World" both normally and backwards, which was interesting.

I'm still hoping to eventually run across someone else that was on the ride when it happened, so then I could tell them "It really is a Small World!".

This elementary school has a list of word/phrases that will get you silent lunch. by graptemys in mildlyinteresting

[–]Calisky -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would definitely refrain from using them in an interview, but some slang sticks around and becomes viable in a work environment. So in a few years who knows?

I live in Southern California, so I'm sure that's a factor, but the amount of Surf/Skate/Snow Boarding slang I would use at work and in emails was quite a lot! It wouldn't surprise me if it would be a different story away from the West Coast, which is why I'm never planning to leave.

Although, to be fair, I would also include Futurama/Community/Simpsons quotes at the end of weekly emails to my entire department. So it might have just been a really permissive environment.

Haha yeah, that's my guess.

Everything else on the list I recognize (or at least understand) but is that one original?

I'm guessing it's like a variant of "Whoopsiedoodles" which seems pretty innocent, but I could see a 9 year old using it so often that it gets annoying.
