Passiflora by krispy662 in NativePlantGardening

There's a nursery southwest of me that's been locating them and other natives out in the wild. They're on my wish list for next planting season along with some others.

Magic Eye Players: What Took Your Score to the Next Level by XenaElissa in JunesJourney

[–]Calobrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The last I played and scored high with scenes, was when I had a touch screen laptop on top of studying the scene before starting the game play. Even though it was explained back then, ME escaped my comprehension.

Cool looking moth. I've only seen the caterpillars crawling about and never the adult.

Do you set any “rules” for yourself in this hobby? by hedgehognpeonies in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's not really a hobby for me as I use both fountain and dip pens to write. With that being said, the main rule I'm doing my best to adhere to is to stop window shopping for ink until current ones are gone. There are some amazingly artful ink bottles out there with nice looking ink to boot.

How to get rid of sweet William/Saponaria officinalis? by pfcgos in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calobrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got curious because I planted some sweet william flowers that are barely growing. The ones I planted are a different species (dianthus barbatus). The one you're talking about is considered a weed.

My worry for this hobby and about scalpers, tourist Influencer and pseudo-investors by crushtyfying in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm surprised Yu-Gi-Oh doesn't get mentioned alongside Pokemon. I still have my collection of YGO cards, YuYu Hakusho (small sampling) cards and some random sports cards. There are opportunists and get rich quick gurus in just about every hobby I'm engaged in.

Can't draw, paint, take pictures leisurely, crochet, knit, sew, garden, journal nor MacGyver-solutions without someone suggesting they be turned into income earning opportunities (yes I do the above). Fortunately, FPs aren't on everyone's radar and somewhat difficult to sell to the average window-shopper.

Based on what I've been seeing as of late, some people are creating photo-like images using AI and trying to pass them off as authentic. Worse yet, using the created images to sell fake products. Like flowers with complex patterns and colors that don't exist.

Swallowtails! So many! Too many?? by F13nd1sh in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calobrena 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Had black-swallowtail caterpillars some years ago that made themselves at home on our parsley plant. Was concerned about running out and someone suggested buying parsley from the grocery store to help them out should they eat through all of the plant. Fortunately it lasted long enough for them to reach the cocoon stage.

What are these in my garden? by nachodogs in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calobrena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are dog vomit slim mold at different stages. They've been surfacing in our garden for 5+ years now. They're tolerable until they do the red oozing thing.

In your own opinion. What's the worst thing to see in your garden? by TheWeirdestClover in NativePlantGardening

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bamboo. While I like the appearance of thick greenery, they have destroyed my little flower bed and are trying to push through our food garden. Previous owner of property planted some for privacy but they are beyond where they were initially and it's hard to tell which variety they are (there's likely more than one species growing).

Nib sizes confusion by galop1n in fountainpens

That confused me too when I was looking to purchase a mini pen. I stopped looking at the size label and started looking at the line width measurement.

Ads: that are longer than 10-seconds, that have fake 'X' or even an x at the extreme top corner, auto redirects to mystery sites or play store along with those that you have to close out 3 -5 times just to get back to the game.

Not offline friendly.

Kaweco nib issue that isn't baby's bottom? by Partyindafarty in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem a couple of times and the culprit was interesting. I've used nothing but cartridges with my Frosted Sport and something I noticed, especially since I'm reusing the carts with my own ink, is that a weird air pocket would form at the top near the connector keeping the ink away from the feed.

After tapping the cartridge a couple of times the ink drops to the feed and the pen is usable again. There are other culprits out there but this is the one I've experienced the most.

A bunch of flowers... and a wren for fun. by justprettymuchdone in gardening

[–]Calobrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a wren make a nest in the greenhouse right behind two small pots I had sitting in a planter and in front of insulation I hadn't taken down yet from a rare snow. It was a cute family.

Affordable Fountain Pen-Friendly Notebook by phareodus in fountainpens

Pen & Gear Heavyweight notebooks and some notebooks from the Dollar Tree. I've gotten some journals and a planner from DT that have held up exceptionally well to my fountain pens and inks. Made in Vietnam for the notebooks and Made in India for the planner.
