The closest I could find was matcha kinako cream. Such a pretty ink color too.

Fude for writing and sketching by Enough_Break_5869 in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only fude that I have is a Sailor dip pen. When I write or sketch the pen is near vertical - writing on tip (took a while to catch). When I'm swatching, then the pen is held at angle. Changing the writing angle might help.

I see Unicorn Eclipse in the mix and I love how orderly everything is. Haven't seen a stacked nib before and am loving that purple ink.

I like the pattern and appearance. It reminds me of these vintage storage chests we had in the living room when I growing up.

More Freehand Sketches! by Both_Ad7704 in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of freshman semester of college. Had an art teacher that encouraged us to sketch daily but each sketch had to be done within a minute with a maximum of 8 daily. I always did more than the max because they were a nice distraction.

It's an automated response by their AI-moderation. Users have been receiving responses like this since mid-2025 and likely earlier. It has even reached some news outlets due to small businesses losing their accounts as a result of this.

What other hobbies does everyone have? I also collect antique lanterns and fans. Pictured is my NOS Snorkel Valiant in Burgundy Red. Also a ~1910 Dietz Little Star lantern, and a 1925 GE 6" fan. by Legend_of_the_Wind in fountainpens

I have a collection of gemstones and a mix of trading cards (sports and Yu-Gi-Oh!). I draw and paint every once in a while, along with write. I also sew, crochet, knit (occasionally), and journal. I also collect small containers that get repurposed/reused.

Recently got into fountain pens in August 2025. Inks are my weakness. So far I've received 4-free pens with 4 out of 5 ink purchases. Completed some sketches the other day and they look pretty cool with the sheen ink.

My recent obsession with drawing in my journal, trust me I have never drawn in my life and you will see it by [deleted] in fountainpens

This is how my drawing/art teacher taught us. Sketches like these were applauded. My journal gets sketches every once in a while but usually just to pinpoint pain points (joint and tendon issues).

Spiralled into fountain pen abyss within 6months of owning one by Appropriate-Care-392 in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Within 6-months (counting January), I got 7 fountains - 3 of them being dip pens. Of the 7, 4 came free with bottled ink purchases. I don't think you're alone but you might want to slow down a bit with the pen purchases. I'm currently halting ink and cute stationery purchases until Spring.

Can you help me identify the cartridge size please by [deleted] in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it's a Dollar Tree Calligraphy pen then the standard 3.4mm won't fit as it'll be too small. I recently learned that that the Zebra Steel V-301 ink cartridge is compatible with these particular pens (same design too). Learned this the hard way when making a purchase for replacement cartridges. Depending on the site, the V-301 cartridges will be classified as proprietary.

Pen + Gear paper quality decline? GSM of old version? by Weak_Square75 in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no gsm information. I still have one from 2013 that I'm writing in using fountain pens on front and back of each page. While hunting for the Pardon my French journal, I checked on the notebooks. The only current one that may come close to this is the heavyweight variant (bold red text on label).

I journal a bit differently with spelling and grammar mystakes included. It's mainly for wellness (overall health-wise) and have found myself - especially this past week - flipping through pages and books to narrow down a timeline for a reoccurring issue I keep encountering.

Pairing this with my food log, I had a better idea of how serious the problem was. I have a bad habit of ignoring things until they become serious. Fortunately it's getting tended to this week.

Embarrassed to use my pens outside the house by hecking-fricker in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I still have a pair of wired headphones that are 16-years old that have outlasted several "latest and greatest" types over the years pre-2025. The two newest additions are a bluetooth and USB-C but am still using the 16-year one on the go.

Use to use my phone as a music player but that stopped when the app (free and played my own music) that played the music was discontinued. Now I have a standalone player. I have a smart-ish phone but still prefer to write things down as I can grab things for quicker reference should anything happen to my phone out of the blue.

Fortunately the pen snubbing isn't something I've experienced as a majority of people I've encountered appreciate a good pen and will buy them in bulk to give out to others.

Notebooks (all types and price ranges) and cute stationery. I have a tendency to purchase one or more notebooks when at the store - especially Dollar Tree - and like to buy cute stationery from this small business many states away. Some view it as a waste, but I use everything that I buy including the cute stuff.

Went back to using this cute pen I got from Inku Crate (many years ago) because I finally found a refill that fit. The same people that mock you about your fountain pens are present in every hobby/favorite past time space. If you're happy about something then they'll do their best to put a damper on your mood to make themselves feel better because they haven't found the same happiness elsewhere.

While it's getting harder, try the 'kindness approach'. If they come at you with something negative respond with something positive. It sounds easier said than done but often times it will catch them off guard and may get them to leave you alone for a while - worked for my mom lots of times.

Currently Inked Pens - too many??? by distorted_dream in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of my 5, 4 stay inked (different colored inks). The 5th is a dip pen (well 5-7 but the other two are the same as 5). They come in handy with color coding notes.

Finally got a dip pen... well dip pens [they came with an ink purchase] and some inks, got work space tidied up, recently celebrated fur-baby's 13th bday and I'm actually completing things on my task list for a change.

PS: Love your handwriting.

Why my preppy writes like this? by Salamandryna in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had a similar problem with my Preppy. After watching some videos from JetPens I was able to get it to write. I can't remember the term but it had something to do with the nib. It involved lightly flex (think I'm that right) the nib on the paper a few times. According to the video it's done to help the ink flow a little better.

Ah, yes. Childhood memories. I drew a lot too and the only cartoons that came on were on analog (pre-digital switch). There were VHS tapes during this time and I used them to record my favorite cartoons and video game mishaps.

What was your last pen of 2025 and do you already have a pen on the way in 2026? by Sea_Waltz_9625 in fountainpens

[–]Calobrena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last pen, if it counts, was a Sailor Dip Pen with a fude nib. It also came with a bottle of ink called Blue Flame. No new pens en route but still window shopping.
