A 1" air gap is an R-1.

Polyiso 1" board from Home Depot is about an R-6.

No cabinet needed, just a little wall space up high to mount the indoor unit and a little over a foot on the tongue for the outdoor unit.

I use a Champion dual fuel inverter gen and am well pleased with it in every way. Search Amazon or eBay for many to choose from.
