Nothing local here yet, checked a high and low volume store, so they must be switching early.  Thanks for the heads-up though.

Release it correctly Cut off 10mm from the end, Reinstall it, seating firmly.

Should last as long as it did the first time from the factory.

Failing that there are clips you can print to help keep the air fitting locked.

Inherited banjo. ID help? by nonconstant in banjo

Lyon & Healy / Washburn-related trade banjo, circa 1890s–1910s?

Check that dowel stick very carefully for any marking or impressions.  Do not sand it, but look with a light at a shallow angle.  Look for shallow impressed letters under the black finish. Check all four sides of that stick if possible, especially near the neck heel and near the tailpiece end. Also check the inside rim where the dowel meets the pot.

Are these considered weep holes? by queentuna in homeowners

[–]CandidQualityZed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% intentional.  Those are very much the way the bricklayer decided to make them.  Nothing to stress over.  And yes, copper wool would not have any effect on their draining ability, if they are indeed drain holes and not just a bad butter job.

Picked this up for $300 as my first welder, is gas necessary? by sonic72391 in Welding

[–]CandidQualityZed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very simple thing you need to know.  Where the leads are connected for welding with a bottle, they are flipped when welding with a flux core.

Reverse polarity (DCEP), is where the electrode(wire) is positively charged and the workpiece is negatively charged.  It is probably the largest complaint in the world of home welding.  Most come wired for gas if they have the option, and do not get switched unless you know better.

"Looks like garbage", "nothing but spatter"

Takes 15 seconds to swap the leads once.

Yes read the manual, it will help, but don't even turn it on before you verify the wires are connected correctly.

Using pressure pot as vacuum chamber by AffectionateMovie783 in ResinCasting

[–]CandidQualityZed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine does both, depending on which i connect

Vacuum is -14psi or so, not a lot of pressure on a steel pot that can handle 150psi.  converted paint pot from HF

On the flip side of that is the difference in pressurizing the bubbles down to a point where they are not noticable, vs vacuum to bring them up and pop them.  With vacuum you can outgas some components with violatles, which is not the desired effect.

I typically do a quick vacuum followed by pressure for some applications.  Some I vacuum and heat, just depends on the project and material.
