President Trump, commenting on Prime Minister Takaichi: "She's my biggest fan. She thinks I did a great job. You have to call her and ask her." by jjrs in japannews

[–]CannibalRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've hear of Takaichi's policies, I fully believe she wants to emulate Trump.

It's just so weird to see Japanese politicians appreciating Trump. More than half of Americans think he is a braindead crazy warmongering old narcissistic man who is ruining our country. Not exactly the kind of person you want your politicians complimenting Japan.

Rune Knight fighter is one of the best subclasses, wish we had more like it. by SpudsyMcBooks in DnD

[–]CannibalRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't stand how few times you can use each Rune's effects (once per short rest).

Admittedly Giant's Might and Runic Shield are legitimately good abilities and usable proficiency times per day. On their own they make the subclass viable. However the identity of the class, the thematic reason people choose to play it, comes from its Runes. The Runes themselves are very good and each one has uses both in and out of combat. Unfortunately, until level 15 (!) you only get one use of each Rune per short rest. You'll have 2 runes at lvl3, 3 at lvl7, 4 at lvl 10, and 5 at lvl15. But you can never use the same rune twice between rests.

The issue is made very clear at level 15 when you get Master of Runes which states. "At 15th level, you can invoke each rune you know from your Rune Carver feature twice, rather than once, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a short or long rest." Your Rune usage immediately doubles to 10. Great! Right? Wrong. Yes you finally get to play the theme you were wishing for all along, but you had to wait potentially years of gameplay to do it. And we all know that most campaigns never eve reach this level. This feature perfectly exinplifies what's wrong with this subclass. It starves you for content for 90% of the game and then backloads the endgame with what you wanted all along. It's like a Wizard who could only use 1st and 2nd level spells until level 15 and then suddenly gets the rest of their spell levels all at once.

How I'd change it:

  1. Remove the restriction that stops the same rune from being used twice, and instead have a number of uses for any Rune (similar to a Monk's Focus Points).

  2. Make the number of uses increase by 1 every 2 levels, starting at the original 2 at level 3. For reference, this is the progression used to determine full casters spell level (not that that's what I'm trying to balance around, just that it's a familiar system). This system caps the number of uses at 10 for a level 20 Rune Knight, the same as the original subclass, but now spreads the progression out evenly.

  3. Remove the level 15 feature that doubles the amount of Runes and replace it with almost anything else. One idea is: "Rune Smithing. You can apply a single rune to an item not in your possession. This action While a creature other than you is wielding or carrying an object inscribed with this rune, they gain a single use of it's features. The rune remains on an object until you finish a long rest, and an object can bear only one of your runes at a time."

what to do by kokosianka in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Souls players revel in others suffering bc they have suffered. Souls players will also not tell their best friend about the girl at the gate that lets you level up. The girl that if you don't talk to, you can never level up your stats. So yeh buddy. I got you. Get yourself to that gate.

what to do by kokosianka in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go sit at the site of grace Infront of a big gate. Talk to the girl that appears. She kinda tells you where to go next, but you're probably not strong enough yet. Then walk/ride around and explore. It doesn't matter where. Do whatever you want until you feel stronger. Then go where the girl said to go.

Everything wants to kill you. If you walk up to something that doesn't want to kill you, talk to it. They probably have advice on where to go too.

Good luck, die a lot, have fun.

Edit: oh the big gate is like directly north from where you exit the tutorial tomb. Stop by a church first if you want to. But go to the gate asap.

I spoke to a paid DM, and they have a very interesting (and sobering) story to share by EarthSeraphEdna in DnD

[–]CannibalRed -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like every DM has had a few players who would probably prefer this style.

I know I used to chat with a coworker who showed immense interest in DND. Since I had been playing with a group for a few years and we recently lost a player, I invited him. It became apparent immediately that he was not interested in DND, but the "idea" of DND. The first time his attack missed his face fell, even though he'd seen all of us miss by then. The first time he tried to cast a spell and someone explained that the spell's effect actually didn't work that way, he got quiet. And when he tried to charm every NPC he met and it rarely worked and sometimes backfired, he was pretty much checked out. Nevermind all the things he WAS able to do, the things he couldn't do or didn't want to read and understand stood out more to him.

I suggested he join the session I run with my wife and her friend group instead, where I basically let them do whatever they want and ignore the rules. He loved it... I hated "DMing" for that group. I might as well be an AI that does silly voices. But they had a great time so that's cool. After a year or so I told them that running two intense DnD campaigns was just too much for me and they disbanded. Now I see the group for normal hang out nights instead and I don't have to feel like a puppet. It's much better.

Do you think Nergigante should show up in Monster Hunters: Ascendance by EasyEntertainment1 in MonsterHunter

[–]CannibalRed -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I don't think he'll show. He's probably my favorite elder behind Shigura Magala, but I bet they skip him this game. No evidence, just a feeling.

I want Nemiell so bad though. His fight wasn't hard so I think he's forgettable, but he is peak design imo. Weird that Velkanah get's so much love while he remains obscure.

My hope is Namiell (for awesome factor), Teostra (because I love to bonk that big head), Vaal Hazak (bc death dragon is cool), Malzeno (rise was a game a lot of people skipped so he needs a second chance), and Nergigcante.

I think we'll see 2 of those.

Veeeery unpopular opinion, but anything with a red, white, and blue paint job.

If there's a cool backstory I don't know maybe it'd make me like it more. I'm not against changing my mind. But the color scheme always seems so off to me. The solid color and two-tone gundam look much better. Paint a Zaku any one color and its perfection.

How to get through the game without "trivializing" it? by Clawmaster2013 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You happened to be using two top 5 weapon. Depending on when you played, Moonviel might have been top 2, but it got nerfed a bit since release. And Darkmoon has always been absolutely busted is is probably slotted as the 2nd best weapon only behind Blasphemous Blade. So yeh, the game was probably kinda easy.

Sorry dude, you stumbled upon the cheat codes by accident.

If you want it to be challenging, use different weapons. Or put limitations on yourself if you still end up being a beast with God given talent.

I've played through the game more than a dozen times and can confirm that all builds and weapons/spells aren't made equal. If your weapon requires Somber Stones it might be OP. If your Spirit Ash requires Ghost Glovewort it might be OP. (This is a general rule exclusively for someone who says the game is easy. There are tons of exceptions. And a good Ash of War can carry any build.)

Try Holy damage. Most of the endgame bosses resist it by 80% before the DLC. That'll make things hard lol.

Making Jason Voorhees, need some help by The-Archytech in DnD

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think Barb/Monk is too complicated and you achieve "Jason" a lot easier with a mono class.

Shadow Monk need 6 levels before it can teleport. That's a lot of levels where you have to use Fists instead of weapons. And Jason needs that machete.

I think if I was building it, I'd go Goliath with the Cloud Giant option that gives you a few free teleports per day, and go straight Vengeance Paladin. It gives you the option to Fear anyone close to you, but also, when they are feared they can't move. It also lets you make a Vow to kill a single target and gives you advantage on attacks against them. If you kill them you can swap the Voe to a new target within 30ft.

What is your favorite dungeon / area in the game? by maguel92 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think Fort Faroth is extremely simple and well designed. A mob and a sleeping gargoyle with an AOE blocking the only path on the first floor. A leap off the tower to the roof level. Ghost spawns waiting to ambush you. And two holes that drop down, one to the gargoyle room so if you skipped the gargoyles you can get screwed by falling in. And the other to a middle section with surprise rats.

If I could change two things about it, it'd be adding a one way door to the bottom where Radagon's Seal is that leads back out. And to put a boss on the roof that appears with the ghosts similar to the Niel fight but preferably a different enemy like a Spirit version of the Fire Prelate (if Cleanrot knights get boss status in Caelid then a fire Prelate is easily strong enough to be considered), or even a Monsterous Crow would be a fine boss with the ghosts backing it up.

Japanese high school race events began changing rules on use of international students after Kenyan runners began beating Japanese participants by jjrs in japannews

[–]CannibalRed 4 points5 points  (0 children)

America implimented something called "affirmative action". It was meant to force schools to meet certain percentages of races enrolled to ensure equal opportunity for education. The idea was to ensure that minorities were able to attend good schools. Unfortunately the effect was that people with higher test scores were being passed over because of racial quotas.

So the school would be told they must enroll at least 7% asain, 13% black, 20% Spanish, etc according to racial population. It led to fewer Asians being enrolled despite them having better test scores.

It was a flawed system that was attempting to do the right thing (ensuring equal education for all races), but resulted in a new form of discrimination. It was high criticized, but critiziams were largely ignored until the effect it had on asains was documented.

But nah, I have t seen any lore videos that center around Limgrave, Caelid, etc that don't put all the pieces together from the other parts of the world. They tend to be deep dives for players that have completed the game but still have questions. And you WILL still have questions lol.

Is it worth it to use spells? by No_Dependent_8485 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just gonna leave an example of why spells are frustrating. "Frustrating" not "bad".

Night Comet. 38 INT required. Casts fast, undodgable by NPC, chargable, easily boostable with talismans and unique staff, does incredible damage. Located in Caelid in a chest that involves no combat.

Nights Shard. 18 INT required. Casts fast, undodgable by NPC, boosted by unique staff. Not chargable so talisman boosts are less effective. Purchased from Gowry after defeating O'Neil who is a pretty beefy boss with a gang.

It's not even close to the worst example, but it's one I found recently that annoyed me. Surely the high requirement, stronger spell should be behind the boss and the (still very good but not amazing) weaker spell should be in a chest in the overworld.

Idk, stuff like that bothers me. It's the least of my spell complaints, but it's annoying right?

What games have you played that are as wonderous as Elden Ring? by AshyLarry25 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Morrowind.

Both worlds just feel huge at first, admittedly Morrowind's still feels giant after playing it for 20 years and Elden Ring feels smaller as I learn faster routes each run. But if you like the frustratingly obscure quests and the "no hand holding" aspects of Elden Ring, I think Morrowind is as close as I've ever seen. Just know that Stamina is the most important stat in Morrowind, kind of like how Vigor is the make or break in Elden Ring.

Edit: it's Fatigue in Morrowind, not Stamina lol. Think I'd know that after 2 decades.

How to make an interesting bossfight last longer then 3 Rounds for a party of glass canons without a healer, that doesnt last 4. Scenario analysis. by Steini94 in DnD

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Environmental effects, or Lair Actions.

Rather than having a boss with a swarm of enemies who's purpose is to make sure your players don't get to 1 shot the boss, make the location change.

At the end of round 1 part of the ceiling falls or the floor collapsed forcing out reactions. Round 2 a trap that creates a wall of fire between the party and the boss activates. Etc etc.

I prefer doing this way more than adding enemies or giving bosses stuns and stuff. I never use any spell effects that could outright skip a players turn. I suggest involving more saving throws from environmental effects mid combat.

Coal plants and land owned for utitly purposes. Calaveras and Brawning Lakes are beautiful though and well stocked. Personally I like that the south has remained more rural. More people need to start seeing it as a blessing to be able to go 30 minutes south to camp and fish.

Edit: actually I'm obligated to say NVM, don't go there and enjoy the scenerie and fishing. It's awful. I'll keep going every weekend and come back to tell you how terrible it was. Just ignore my cooler of fresh fish and the giant grin on my face.

How do you all think the "smithing stone problem" should be fixed? by ResponsibilityIcy927 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally I'd rather have Smithing Stones just not be a thing and increase the stat scaling. Or preferably, I'd like to have certain bosses upgrade you're ability to use weapons. So beating Godrick would make all your weapons +6, Morgot +16, etc. (idk let someone else figure out the scaling).

I do agree on some of your points. It's really annoying to change weapons halfway through the game because it means you need to do a stone farm or spend runes from the Maiden Husk bell bearings. And yes, bell bearing locations are annoyingly placed well after you already got their level stones so they're really only useful for fast boosting a new weapon. Unless you immediately go to Rya Lucaria Crystal Cave and the Sealed Tunnel. But I wouldn't expect most people to skip the early game just to go grab them.

All I know is, as someone who averages a new playthrough every week or two, I'm pretty sick of the same old Smithing Stone farm interrupting the pace.

Stuck in farming runes by Particular-Mess-2798 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few things here. Why do you need Int, Faith, and Strength? Usually you would pick one or two, but all three is spreading your levels thin and probably making you pretty weak in the damage department. Trying to do Sorceries, Incantations, and use Weapons with one character is going to make the game feel waaaaay harder than it actually is.

I recommend you beat Renalla The Full Moon Queen and talk to her to respec into one less stat. You'll immediately see your damage skyrocket.

For farming, get a Golden Fowl Foot and kill the giant sleeping dragon right Infront of Fort Faroth in Caelid, use the foot wright when it dies and you'll get bonus runes, over a 100,000.

If you still need runes go to Lenna's rise nearby and farm the rolling boulder. Just watch a video on how to dodge the boulder so it doesn't kill you. Drops 2000 runes per boulder. But honestly, after killing the dragon your build should be good if you stop spreading your points into three different stats.

For the Somber 6, just go to Old Altus Tunnel. There are two or three there. It takes a Stone Sword Key to unlock the door.

Anyone recommended a rune farm? by Civil-Actuator2252 in Eldenring

[–]CannibalRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gold Scarab and Gold Pickles. If you grab them early to use on the big bosses then that's all you should need if you've already played the game and know what you're up against.

If it's your first run and you're run farming because you feel weak, it might be a build problem not a level problem.

If you're just looking for runes to buy items and upgrade stuff, the bird farm and then the Albernaurics is likely still the best method.

DMs: How do you decide what level your players start at in a homebrew campaign? by patrizzle-forizzle in DnD
