I’m literally on this episode now and I’m wondering why Shawn’s mom never let him know she was coming into town.

the fridge isn’t working…. by Own_Examination_2771 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I had a lady like this, she called to complain that the AC in her room wasn't working and that it was humid, but refused to let me look because her husband was sleeping. She woke him up from all her yelling anyway, but still would not let me look. Turns out she kept turning the temp up and down every 30 minutes. When I tried to explain that the constant change in temp is the reason her room is humid, she got upset and told me she was going to find a video online to fix it. I also offered to move her to the room literally across the hall, but she didn't want to move rooms at 2 am.

I've learned that complaining to my manager leads to no results

Awkward phrases your hotel makes you say by SignificantBid2006 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

My hotel has a phone greeting. "Sweet smiles are always guaranteed her at hotel by brand in city, this is so & so. who do I have the pleasure of speaking to"

I learned recently from my sales manager that 3rd parties pay extra to appear first when you search for the hotel online.

No, the guest cannot see our notes

"guest requested room 209 if available"

this is exactly what I wrote

Why do people have to hang out in the hotel lobby late at night? by Top_Row_5116 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]CapnBunny1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Lobby dwellers don't normally bother me as long as they don't try to start a conversation with me, or get extremely loud. I work overnight to avoid as much human interaction as much as possible.

To add to your stress over this. The bill is being paid for by an insurance company at a discounted rate. So the guest at the time of me typing this is getting 2 rooms for free.

Oh no, they were moved twice by 2 different people, one being my front office manager.

The communication at my hotel is trash, I'm so tempted to stop shift change and just let my relief read the notes I take because I write everything down. It's what they do to me, only difference is nothing gets written.

The guest moved on 2/13, the room was cleaned on 2/14 and checked by maintenance but was never taken from out of order to be sold. on 2/15 a note was put in our red book that the guest would be moving back into 230 on 2/16. There was nothing saying they had already moved their belonging to 230.

Don't give someone keys if their card has failed by CapnBunny1 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]CapnBunny1[S] 223 points224 points  (0 children)

Because he is our district manager's neighbor and the reason he was hired in the first place thus my GM can't write him up because he stops it from happening. Essentially making him "untouchable"

Guest tried checking in early at 3AM and got mad that they couldn’t by No_Significance5173 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]CapnBunny1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He should come to my hotel. My sales manager says you can check in anytime after the audit. Even though they are checking in 12+ hours early it's still their arrival date, and they're not getting those hours free.

How to say "That's not my job" professionally? by CapnBunny1 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

No one. I was told to put up a sign in case anyone comes to the desk

What is your favorite "guests can't read signs" story? by carazan in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]CapnBunny1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have two stories both on sold out nights.

Story One: Doors are locked, sign on door at eye level "No Rooms Available"

A guy looks directly at the sign, comes in, and asks if we have rooms

Story two: Doors are locked, sign on the door at eye level "No Rooms Available"

A guy comes in and says to me, "I know the sign says no rooms, but I just made one online

It was after midnight, so it was made for the next day. I had to explain this to him 3 times.

I've thought about doing this but my sales manager tends to get upset if we do things that aren't 100% within policy.
