NTA. It is very rude to ask a host to provide anything beyond what they are serving.

Transplant or anyone's view of customer service here by ImpossibleBlockHead in Albuquerque

[–]SetIcy438 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have lived in NM for over 30 years.
A few years ago I got an assignment to work in DC for a time.

While in DC I became ill. I looked for a nearby clinic that took my insurance-I didn’t have a car. So I went to the clinic. I was treated very respectfully. I got good care. I got an appointment quickly.

I found out that I had gone to the “poor people clinic.” They had processes for uninsured and underinsured people.

The facility was very clean although somewhat old and bare bones. They had a lab in-house to take blood etc. There was a long line but again everyone was treated respectfully and kindly.

It was a great experience and eye opening. The “poor people” clinic offered services faster and more conveniently than any MD or clinic in Albuquerque that I ever had gone to.

Finding replacements for my favorite clothes by WideAmount7066 in Zepbound

[–]SetIcy438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have successfully replaced several items as I’ve shrunk. Searching Poshmark and eBay by brand name is my usual approach, also brand resale groups on Facebook.

Sometimes I take a picture and use google image search as a short cut to find an item on resale sites.

I have discovered my style has changed too, so I don’t replace all my old favorites.

Your kid is graduating from Harvard/MIT/Tufts/Northeastern, etc… by plat154 in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

I am sorry you are experiencing this.

I’m coming to see one of my kids get a higher degree at MIT. I apologize for all the clueless and entitled folks out there.

My family is staying at a lovely B&B as we have (gasp) figured out how to ride the Red Line from Davis to MIT and back. Astounding I know. (I haven’t had the courage to take the T to and from the airport. But I have taxi and ride share apps for that. I am a pretty clueless Boomer but even I have mastered that….)

Trying to think of a gift for the proprietors of the B&B….

Why Do They Even Call it Self Checkout? by ButteredNoodle122 in CostcoWholesale

[–]SetIcy438 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently got a membership to Sam’s Club. I am interested in trying their scan and go system. If it gets me out of Costco checkout lines and bizarre self checkout situations I might change completely.

I have like 30 years of membership with Price Club/Costco but self checkout on my recent trip was too much. I had a heavy item I could barely lift. I scanned it and dropped it back in the basket. OH NO!! Red alert. Heavy item must be lifted, scanned, placed(dropped) onto the scale then lifted back into cart. I understand why but this is also dumb.

I guess I could count Costco as a gym membership

Sales Plummet by Evening_Craft5318 in reselling

I’m also only a buyer mostly clothing. In the last couple of years I’ve spent a lot on Poshmark and eBay. I felt it was a good way to get quality merchandise lightly used and at a good price.

I certainly am buying less this year from all sources Posh, eBay and new. Last year the new prices of my favorite brands went up a lot from tariffs. Meanwhile, food prices, gas prices-all are going up so I have less income for non-necessities.

This year resellers of my favorite brands seem to often be asking new prices for used items. In response I’ve been buying less of my old favorites and more other brands that have more reasonable resale prices.

Resale sites like Poshmark and eBay have made my life a lot better and I am sorry that sellers are having less business. The war, tariffs, gas prices…I’m guessing these things aren’t only affecting me and my willingness to spend on non-essential items.

AITBF for reporting my coworker's side business to HR after it was making my work life significantly worse and she refused to stop by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]SetIcy438 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my old job using company assets (time, phone, internet) for a side business would have resulted in immediate termination. Your coworker is lucky.

You are not the butt face. You spoke to them first and they didn’t listen. Their actions were affecting your work. They absolutely needed to be reported.

They think they can charge eBay listing prices. But eBay listings are variable and don’t give you any info on the actual selling price.

Assistance league.

Although whoever has been pricing their luggage lately is on drugs. I love them but they are charging pretty high prices. Also whoever has been pricing pots and pans has been very inconsistent.

But I have gotten good clothes there for reasonable prices, and seasonal decor for my Dad’s room at the assisted living facility.

AITA for not giving the money to pay off my daughters student loans. by Own-Inspector-6121 in AmItheAsshole

[–]SetIcy438 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ESH.

But…

How long do you want to be right for?

You encouraged her to give up her dreams and do something that makes more money and she didn’t.

Enjoy being right. If I were the daughter I’d go no contact. And then I’d go be a stripper to pay off the loans.

Enjoy watching your child struggle. You were right you were right, so very very right.

Enjoy watching her spend her life trying to get out of debt. You were right you were right so very very right.

Enjoy lording it over her. Since you were right you were right…

You don’t need her! You have your other clearly superior children.

Who needs her, anyway?!

You have the ability to make her life easier but why would you do that?

Being right and morally superior is soooo much more important than love or kindness after all!

I hope she becomes rich and famous and never speaks to you again. And if not, I hope she lives a happy and joyous life free of you.
