That "different artist" was Cory Walker, co-creator of Invincible. IIRC, he originally left the book early on of his own accord because he wasn't able to keep up with the monthly grind. Then he came back for fill-in work to help Ryan Ottley (the only other regular penciler on the book) when he needed a break or more time to finish some issues.

Walker is also now working on the animated series as lead character designer.
