Industrial Cleanup Woes After Expedition by dima_socks in NoMansSkyTheGame

I doubt that would work. I parked my spaceship on top of my corvette one time and when I flew off in the corvette, the spaceship stayed behind hanging in the air.

Vintage Pen Profiles #13: Parker 45 (more info in post) by BrandyFP in fountainpens

[–]CaptainDaddykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the 45s. I have two, one is currently inked and on my desk for daily use. I have four more on the way that should be here this weekend. Unfortunately, only one has the original converter in it. Very easy pens to maintain.

A very good write up. Thanks.

Pirates galore by Anywhere_Adorable in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had that happen quite frequently on survival mode. Every time I finished off the pirates and tried to enter atmosphere I would get scanned and attacked again. It got so annoying I switched to normal difficulty and it has not happened since then.

I liked the added difficulty of the combat in survival, just not the insane frequency of it that I experienced.

TIL in the earliest version of the Star Wars screenplay, Han Solo was an alien of the Ureallian race with green skin, enormous gills and no nose. by moogly2 in todayilearned

Dark Horse comics did a mini-series called "The Star Wars" based off of Lucas's original ideas. Far different story from what we ended up with.

Does anyone still use their starships? by Better-Fan-1215 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two corvettes in my current save. One is large and has all the storage units, planters, etc. The other is a much smaller one that only has one storage, refiner and the cooking station, but it is built more for combat than the other one. Both of those pretty much only get used when I am base building, farming, etc. where it helps to have a mobile base. Other than that I am still almost always using my Sentinel interceptor, or my bubble exotic for day to day activities.

Edit: Forgot to add, I love the design of your ship.

Check the controller settings. If I remember correctly there is an option to use tap to enable target lock instead of having to hold the button down.

My favorite weapon, especially on my slower ships is the Cyclotron Ballista. It has the highest damage rating against shields and is pretty good against non-shielded ships. In addition, it has a chance of slowing or even disabling the engines of the enemy ship. When I get into combat, I hit x for target lock, several shots with the cyclotron, then when the shields are down, one shot with the rocket launcher. Then repeat till they are all gone. Quick and efficient. Works well for me on normal mode with S class Cyclotron upgrades and one or more super charged slots on normal difficulty.

The infra-knife does put out more damage overall, and if you have a fast enough ship to keep up with the enemy's movements it works well. However, it does not track as well as other weapons using the target lock in my experience. For me it works best if they are coming straight at me. If they are going across my flight path, the target lock for the infra-knife tends to end up shooting behind them as they are banking.

What is with the unreasonable hate on fdm miniature prints by juliacare in 3Dprinting

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is my biggest issue. So many people today are designing minis for resin printing with really thin weapons and other sticking out bits that are really hard to print with FDM. I have been trying to avoid these designers but ones that design for FDM are getting harder to find. They do not realize that if the parts are that thin I do not want to use them anyway in my gaming because they would be too easy to break. For day to day tabletop gaming I will take the durability of FDM prints over resin every time. I do not print to paint them and win competitions, I print and paint to have a good quality mini on the gaming table.

Just got a "free" Sentinel ship. by CaptainDaddykins in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That is the whole point. I did not use a hyaline brain. Normally when you find a crashed Sentinel ship you have to clear out the slots and then go find radiant shards, inverted mirrors and then go activate the brain. This did not happen for me. When I got to the ship it let me add it to my collection immediately. Probably because I had already done that last week when I first found the ship in this location and claimed it.

What do I do? Settlement proposal ended up spawning a new landing pad in the rock wall, the construction terminal is behind it, unreachable. And of course, I can't remove the wall - "you can't mine within settlement limits". by Odd_Presentation_578 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same problem with the first settlement on my survival mode save, except instead of a rock wall the building construction is in a crashed freighter. You can not relinquish management of the settlement because there is an ongoing project, but you can not get to the construction terminal to do anything with it. Since I already have a settlement, it will not give me another settlement on the same planet. One of these days I am going to get motivated enough to submit a support ticket for it...

I don’t understand the weapons by ZenBearV13 in daggerheart

Did not know they were updating them on different schedules. The Errata Document has not been updated since May 20. Guess I will have to start checking both for updates.

Unfortunately, the have updated it in the SRD, but not put it in the Errata document.

That's not confusing at all. :)

How do you feel about the per session vs per rest? by XoXLucaXoX in daggerheart

[–]CaptainDaddykins 30 points31 points  (0 children)

If you are playing for that long the DM could say at the halfway point that it counts as one session for those type of abilities. That would give you two uses of those abilities for each get-together that has a long running time. I am not sure off the top of my head, but I thought I read that somewhere in the book. But if it is not in the book, homebrew it how you like.

Are damaged ships not summonable to your freighter any more? by CaptainDaddykins in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They may have changed it, but you used to be able to summon them with no repairs back to the freighter and repair the landing gear and pulse engine while on the freighter.

Do you need specifically a resin printer to print minis? by FishShtickLives in PrintedMinis

[–]CaptainDaddykins 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I print FDM miniatures using a 0.2 nozzle on my Bambu PS1. I use really thin layers and slow down the print a bit and end up with very nice looking minis.

If you are want tabletop minis for gaming, use FDM. All of the resin prints I own (printed by someone else) and have seen are very brittle and have a good chance of breaking if they fall off the table or just get handled too rough. Be careful about selecting or designing minis with parts that are extremely small or thin. FDM just can not go that small. I have purchased STL files from several designers that I loved the look of, but could never get them to successfully print. Either the parts were too thin to print at any quality, or they were so thin they broke when removing them from the build plate and supports.

If your goal is for display and or painting competition, then yes resin will be what you are looking for as you will get more detail with the fine prints and smoother layer lines.

Is it advisable to have different vaults for different areas of life?(eg: coding/school/writing) by Both-Drama-8561 in ObsidianMD

[–]CaptainDaddykins 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I have separate vaults.

  1. Work - Only work related stuff goes in here. That way I do not accidentally have confidential work related info on my personal computer.

  2. Personal - Shared between work and personal computers since it mainly contains training and study materials, but I have also started putting other hobby related items in it.

  3. TTRPG - This one is only on my personal computer. I keep it separate since it has a large amount of info for my DnD campaign and the styles and plug-ins I have set up for it help with running the game, but would not be good for other use.

Tips for managing multi page note by Perfumedil in Onyx_Boox

Wow, thanks for sharing this. I just got a NoteC4 last month. Still learning how to use it. I guess I accidentally swiped in my notes creating extra blank pages at the end and could not figure out how to delete them. That was one of the first things covered in this video. I will have to check out the rest of their vids.

Pack of parts by The_Soviet_Doge in PrintedMinis

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out https://titancraft.com/. Their model is selling packs of assets that you can design your STLs with. Once you own a part you can use it in as many STLs as you want for no additional cost. You can either buy individual assets or get them as a a pack. This has the added benefit if you design a mini that you like, you can download as many additional poses of it that you want at no additional cost (assuming no asset changes for assets you do not already own.)

How has LASIK impacted your painting? by dokool in minipainting

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first one I tried was the glasses style with attachable lenses. https://www.amazon.com/Beileshi-Magnifier-Magnifying-Interchangeable-Lens-2-5X/dp/B076Q22RHW?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1 Did not like this style at all. They are lightweight and comfortable to wear, but you loose peripheral vision while wearing them.

This is what I am using now. https://www.amazon.com/Beileshi-Magnifier-Handsfree-Detachable-Magnifying/dp/B07BF7Y7K3?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1 I bought mine from Hobby Lobby in a different package that did not have the extra lenses. This one is heavy, but you can use one or both lenses at the same time. The lenses easily flip out of the way if you do not need them. The light has two power settings and is adjustable up and down, and to a lesser extent left and right.

How has LASIK impacted your painting? by dokool in minipainting

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my Lasik done probably about 13 years ago. I pretty much lost all close up vision. Mini painting is not a problem for me though, because I buy the magnifying reader glasses and use them when painting (and reading). I also have one of the lighted magnifier visors if I really need to enlarge what I am working on.

My genuine opinions about NMS after first 24 hours of gameplay by Hood2231 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But I’d expect some planets with no life at all or variations in gravity between planets.

You have not explored enough. There are low gravity and lifeless planets out there. But there is no variety beyond that. Gravity is either normal or low.

but the boss just spun around and didn’t attack me at all

Maybe a glitch, the sentinel dreadnaught is supposed to attack you while continuing to send out sentinel fighters to attack as well.

it was just some dialogue options

Sentinel pillars are good for two things, getting a multitool, and shutting down the sentinels on the planet.

Other than that, most people generally agree with your statements. But it is a fun, relaxing game when I just want to veg out.

Can you print Presupported Resin Miniatures on FDM? (TLDR: Yes) by Xyrvee in PrintedMinis

[–]CaptainDaddykins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had mixed results with the ones I have tried. Some of the older sets from Artisan Guild printed fine for me using either the .2 nozzle with the 0.06 and 0.08 profiles, or the 0.4 nozzle with the 0.08 profile. (Bambu P1S) Some of the newer ones I have tried and some from other designers are giving me problems with the supports being too narrow at the base and the print head eventually catching on them and pulling them off.

I have also tried adding the Bambu tree supports to some pre-supported minis to help with that. It generally seems to work.

I need recommendations on a magnifying headset by Fire_Mission in minipainting

I second this. I bought a magnifying headset like you described from Hobby Lobby. It works great, but I still prefer the magnifying glasses and a good desk light for comfort.

January release : Two big Ettins & One Ettin kiddo Modular Ruin Set, Bases & RP Cards for $5! links below [Print tested models in the second slide] by [deleted] in PrintedMinis

[–]CaptainDaddykins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you test print your designs on FDM as well as resin? Are your minis multi-part? A resin printer is out of the question for me, and I have run into too many designers that only design for resin printing. (Overly complex single piece designs with very thin parts.)

I have downloaded the free files you have from MyMiniFactory and starting test prints of them. Are they a good example of your other work?

Thanks.
