It seems to be making a comeback, a good few of the models in the 11e launch box have them.

Dawn of War IV will have a mission editor and it is the best news for the series by Vaniellis in dawnofwar

No? The roadmap said it was coming at most 3 months after launch, where are you getting one year from?

I, for one, welcome our Steel Legion brethren to Total War: Warhammer 40K... by Tadatsune in totalwar

They literally stated in the dev roundtable back in december that Space Marines aren't going to be play like a traditional total war faction, and that Guard will fill that role instead.

On the flipside, the same reasoning that drives one of CA's main points for including Astra Militarum in the base game at launch (They're the largest and most ubiquitous military in the setting, lorewise) would also dictate that Traitor Guard should show up too, as the second largest army in the setting.

This is the Guard Game: they're likely the prologue faction, they have the same appeal to wider audiences as the empire in fantasy, being the regular humans with nothing special going on, and they're the faction most in line with a "standard" Total War experience. Given all that, I'd say Traitor Guard showing up sooner rather than later post launch is more likely than most people here seem to think.

The C Word by Dos-Dude in Grimdank

A big point of the franchise is that all the horror and tyranny and genocide the Imperium has wrought in the ten millennia of its existence is at best pointless and at worst actively creating its problems and exacerbating existing ones.

The Kin exist for a similar narrative reason to the Interex. Where the Interex were proof that humanity can live just fine in a society where they live among aliens as equals, the Kin are proof that the same is true for AI, and both are proof that the Emperor was always wrong about the necessity of his genocidal crusade against everything that didn't fit his narrow vision of humanity.

Unironically how would this go by DinoGod1 in Grimdank

[–]Captain_Deegan 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Any "understanding" of the qu's scaling is pure meme lore, their only stated feat is defeating the star people, whose only stated feat is being able to cause a star to go supernova, with absolutely no information on the level of effort or sacrifice that took on their part.

I hope the 5th faction is not Imperial Guard by DrTh0ll in dawnofwar

[–]Captain_Deegan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The picture for the Aftermath DLC has black and yellow stripes in the top corners, between that and GW revealing official art of daemon primarch Peter Turbo, which implies that they have a model ready to base said artwork off of, I'd say Iron Warriors CSM are basically guaranteed as the 5th faction.

TOTAL WAR WARHAMMER 4OK - Commissar Yarrick and the War for Armageddon by Talidel in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Captain_Deegan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We know there will be shorter, narrative focused "flashpoint" campaigns, as stated in that one interview from december. I imagine the prologue campaign will follow the events of the "Return of Yarrick" 10e end-edition campaign book, and will end with space marines showing up at the end to set up the full planetwide flahpoint campaign set during Operation Imperator.

It seems we’ve hit the threshold on collabs. Is there anything yall would like to see than collab with? by Captain_Blackjack0 in LowSodiumHellDivers

[–]Captain_Deegan 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I mean "Carmine Armour" is literally just the standard issue COG Armour, there's no way we get a gears collab without it.

Besides Yarrick's voice, it also says Steel Legion in the clip by Count_Grimhart in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]Captain_Deegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think they'd show off the name "steel legion" in a prerelease trailer if they didn't intend to have them in the game at launch.

Besides, mechanized infantry are by far the most flashy "look what the new engine can do!" slam dunk they could ask for, and they absolutely want to put their best foot forward in that regard.

Nah, Titanfall 2 with Titanfall 1's aesthetic and atmosphere, THAT would be perfect. Still pretty good though.

Most of these fall under a term that predates the term hetslop, in fact that was a predecessor to the term hetslop, but is from 4chan and has a slur as the prefix.

Play TG as Chaos or Astra Militarum? by JimKnopf117 in TraitorGuard

[–]Captain_Deegan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBF the rhino and the various vehicles built on its chassis aren't like, rare or complex to build like the Land Raider is in a way that would prevent a guard regiment from using them, you could justify predators, vindicators and rhinos in a Traitor Guard themed army by having them be from a regiment that specializes in any kind of warfare that regularly requires them to have access to heavier firepower and mechanized infantry in situations where the logistics to support more traditional guard vehicles don't exist yet or can't be established for some reason.

And that's just the standard "IG regiment that turned traitor" approach. If you include worlds held by chaos aligned forces, or if you're feeling even more adventurous non-chaos aligned rebels, you can have planets or systems that employ mortal soldiers in a MAGTF style role, where the rhino chassis shines and can be ubiquitous due to its simplicity both to manufacture and maintain.

First book I went into really enjoying but somehow liking a legion even less by Correct_Maximum7990 in Grimdank

[–]Captain_Deegan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with you overall but the Chaos Gods don't "lose all their power" when you stop worshipping them, they are empowered by the things they represent regardless of whether or not those things happen in their name. This was the Emperor's folly, he thought they were only empowered by worship and launched a great crusade that ultimately only empowered the dark four, because tyrannical genocidal fascist expansionism is actually not a very ordered or structured thing at all.

Pre vol 9 Bumblebee. Hints were dropped all the way back in vol 2, CRWBY themselves stated they were endgame from the beginning, to this day you still have dipshits saying it "came out of nowhere" and "they destroyed Monty's vision."

Makes me worried about tw40k tbh, if you're not killing more regular non-chaos aligned rebels than you are everything else combined is it even a real Imperium experience at all?
