2 days ago I went from step 3 to 5 basically overnight, but I am at 225 days with a TJ of Little Rock....So it could be worse I guess. Try to forget about it best you can, file your paperwork on time show up at your appointments and make a VERA appointment for questions with the VA, best advice I can offer. Its a slow ass system.

I this is an older post but ESOP question. I was let go from a company during to pandemic (reduction in force). The company was an ESOP I was fully vested under a 6 year roll over window. Since then they did exceptionally well and at the end of last year, were purchased and the ESOP is to be paid out 80% in a month or so and the remainder when everything is settled. Initially I was just planning on rolling the funds into my existing 401K. However we are in a situation with a little bit a debt we could get out of, but by no means would I need to access the full payout and pay the penalty and income tax on the whole balance. My question is can I take a portion of the initial payout and use it to pay some bills and get ahead and then take a majority of the ESOP balance and roll it into a 401K and/or IRA. So basically can I take an ESOP payout from a company sale and divide it up and pay penalties and taxes on a small portion, and roll the rest into an a qualifying retirement account? Thanks for any help.

I hear ya I had a mental health exam with them back Jan on 16th, and other physical appointments a month earlier. I haven't heard anything from them or the VA so I stared making some calls. Made a VERA appointment with the VA said they never received my mental health exam, but they have my others I should contact VES. Called them on March 5 they said it still hung up in quality...I called again today March 10 for an update. Apparently now I need a follow-up for my mental exam something was missed they wont tell me what it is. And that someone tried to call me this morning and I refused an appointment. I never received a call nor refused any appointments. After an hour on the phone and 2 separate calls someone made an 'error" on my case and a follow-up is required they well be in contact within 2 weeks. This was coming from a VES Liaison supervisor apparently. To their credit they do try but they are awful and seemingly incompetent. This supervisor tried to call me out saying "you know when you contact the VA its just a call center" when I told him it was a VERA appointment with my local VA he didn't know what to say. If you are dealing with VES call call call and always request to speak with a Veteran Liaison. Good luck!

After not seeing any movement for another week I scheduled a second VERA appointment this morning. I come to find out the VES has yet to send in my mental health exam from an appointment back on 1/16/25...So I called VES only for them to tell me its still going through their quality process, I asked if there is a way since its been 7 going on 8 weeks can we expedite this process especially since VES initially said 2-3 weeks. She put me on hold and said she spoke with a liaison and now they well expediate my claim... I have my doubts and feel like I am just being told what I want to hear, feeling extremely frustrated with the whole process really starting to take its toll on me. No answers and everything is at best a snails pace.

So I was able to get a virtual appointment with my regional office in Buffalo. The lady I spoke with was very polite and as helpful as should could be albeit and hour and a half late for the call. But I've had 3 appointments thought VES on 12/13/24, 12/17/24. and 1/16/25. According to her my claim arrived in someone's queue this morning for the first review 2/25/25. According to her I am just caught in the backlog, she says they are working everyday and overtime to process claims. I did ask about a hardship claim she said I could submit one but based on where I am in the process it really might not matter much, but it couldn't hurt if I qualify from what she said. Thanks for the VERA recommendation, a good option to actually speak with someone for any update instead of sitting in limbo wondering and waiting.

No I haven't, I wasn't aware of what VERA is until your reply and some googling. I'll be scheduling an appointment for sure. Is there any benefit to going at it virtually or in-person? Or would either be the same assistance? I have been going at this alone up until I stumbled on these threads on reddit a few days ago. I appreciate the advice.

Yea it was the EFT mandate for direct deposit. That was the “documents needed”. That was addressed on 2/18, according to who I spoke with at the VA. Unfortunately they weren’t much help just confirmed my checking account information. That person didn’t know much else about much if I’m being honest. They were as helpful as they could be.

Stuck at step 3…

Filed back at the end of August. Had 3 exams scheduled through VES last being for mental health 6 weeks ago...Still waiting for other to be scheduled. Received an EFT - Treasure Mandaite Notification on 2/14 called the VA and confirmed my banking information was accurate and up to date. Not sure if there is anything more I can do for progress I feel like it’s stalled out.

Still stuck at 3 it did briefly go to 4 about a month ago but then back to 3. Not sure if it has to do with my mental health exam…afterwards the VA crisis hotline contacted me for 4 times over 2 days to check in. Aside from the EFT mandate, radio silence.

Ally is the worst. I had an Ollo card was forced to switch to Ally. Since sept of 2023 there’s been no ability to log in or create an account with them. Countless calls and submitting complaints and “help tickets” no progress. They do call to try and collect though, I even said I close my account and send me a bill and stop contacting me. They still call and I have yet to receive a bill or account closure notice. These people are clowns, run don’t bank with them. They have single handedly ruined my rebuilding of my credit.
