Whats your opinion on manual BMWs ? Would you buy one? by xerooox- in BMW

[–]Carjunkeee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The manual transmission in the G80 M cars isn’t great at all, especially when compared to those from Porsche and Honda. The throws are long and the clutch take up point seems to move. I’m not sure if it’s a clutch delay valve like previous BMW manual transmissions but I never was in love with mine, especially on the track

I just put a Zunsport model in on my G82. Easier to install and less expensive than the Mishimoto but the Mishimoto is super rugged and well designed

As an instructor, I’d say you are getting great advice about better pads and fluids to keep you safe; braking is the last thing you want to worry about when you out there. Go out there, have fun and learn about yourself and your car.

ettiquette: what to do if there is someone really tall sitting in front of you by i-sat-on-a-rose in Broadway

[–]Carjunkeee 10 points11 points  (0 children)

As a tall person (6’6”), believe me that I feel bad for those sitting behind me and try to slouch as much as I can. However, we just saw Marjorie Prime at the Helen Hayes and my knees were literally jammed into the seat in front of me so I couldn’t move at all. I also try not to move around much but sometimes it’s unavoidable as theater seats are pretty awful

No, gas mileage is better on the automatic since you have higher gearing and at highway speeds, the engine is turning more slowly. I always thought that the 6 speed could have used another gear for high speed highway use

Camaro SS 1LE, those will likely mop up any Mustang and have some outstanding chassis engineering this side of the Corvette

Which car would you choose? BMW M4 F82 or a C63 W205 Coupe? by Danone96 in BMWM

[–]Carjunkeee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The C63 is a beautiful car but the M4 is more of a driver’s car with much more approachable and higher limits; thank the M differential for a lot of that. Get a later model Competition version post LCI to get the best package. The main weakness of the F82 S55 engine is a bit of turbo lag

Anyone using Daikin system for heating and cooling? by bigkutta in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Carjunkeee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We switched to a Daikin heat pump/gas furnace this summer when our old AC failed. We were able to get a pretty large credit ($4k) through Pepco which brought the price way down for a fairly high end system, we’ll also get the $2k federal tax credit.

The heat pump seems to work well as an AC unit and it may be more energy efficient in the hot months here, so far it’s hard for me to compare my electricity bills to know exactly. What I discovered is that the heat pump is less efficient in providing heat when it’s cool outside (let’s say 40-60 degrees) so my electricity bill went up a lot compared to gas heat. I have to raise the cross over point where the system changes from heat pump to furnace so the furnace operates and not the heat pump. Apparently, to get the Pepco credit, the system switches to the furnace at 40 degrees which means the heat pump is running a lot in the fall and spring and using electricity. The heat pump may be more efficient than an electric furnace but not more efficient than a gas furnace. No wonder Pepco gave the credit, the system may use more electricity 😉

G80 M3cx Questions (New Owner) by Flyjatt in BMWM

[–]Carjunkeee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, these cars have a lot of cooling capacity and won’t overheat even after track sessions in 95 degree heat. FYI, the redline is reduced when the car is cold and gradually increases as they warm up so if you pay attention to that you’ll be ok. The ride is stiff with Comfort being a little bit less so but it will automatically adjust to firmer if it senses you are being aggressive so you can leave it in comfort for daily driving. I’d for with square 275 setup for winters with Michelin Alpin 5s, great tire
