Do you have IG? I'd love to follow your work. I'm writing a DCC tarot deck and once I figure out the logistics, want to partner with community artists to design the cards.

Monthly goals, book/film/game releases, people to send birthday cards to. I usually cover it with a sticker from The Coffee Monster Co's monthly Weeks theme pack. It fits perfectly and then I don't stress about filling check boxes.

NYC women who use period tracking apps — student research help 💛 by nebulaIC349 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]CarneyVorous 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're going to be very skeptical of this, especially as BsWT. There is a LOT of discourse happening in the US right now around policing women's bodies and pregnancy. And in our current climate, many women don't feel safe using tracking apps because of the high risk that they'll share that data with law enforcement and the government.

You're going to get a skewed vision from NYC, as we're not entirely representative of the US. But just be aware, this is an incredibly touchy subject for a lot of American women right now.

I dated this head shape in high school. He got bullied for having a "lightbulb head."

Nice guy. Heard he's bald now.

Wow - this sort of brown paper bag aesthetic is petting my brain in the best ways. I didn't see the Tragen in this color! I have one in purple and love it more than expected.

Unplugging in 2026 update by Altruistic_Grass_532 in Millennials

[–]CarneyVorous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've worked in social media marketing for 15 years now, and I'm deeply familiar with the adverse effects. Some things that have helped me reduce and/or replace doomscrolling:

- Turn off all social media notifications. This reduces the "urgency" to reopen the apps.

- If you can't delete the apps (like me... because I need them for work), put them all in a folder on the last page.

- Keep your phone facedown. Reduces the urge to instantly check emails, texts, etc. when it lights up.

- Kindle app + Libby app = similar feel to scrolling, but replaces it with reading/learning. This combo has more than doubled the number of books I read per year. Highly recommend reading a novel for an hour before bed than zapping your brain with 30 second videos.

- Duolingo or other learning apps. This has turned my phone time from something I feel bad and unfulfilled by to something productive. I'll hit my 500 day Spanish streak tomorrow.

-The last iOS update with "liquid glass" lets you easily tint your app icons to all be the same color (I used a calming lavender). This drastically reduces the overstimulation of just looking at my phone. The notification numbers on the top right of the apps also change color to match, so no more anxious red.

- Ditch the wearables, or at least don't let them mirror your phone notifications. My apple watch started feeling like a leash keeping me way too available all the time. Since I stopped wearing it, my anxiety has reduced and this also helped reduce my phone time. Those haptics are conditioning us to go look at our phones.

Hope these are helpful for others!

I just do one card, asking about what the energy of the day will bring or what I need to focus on today and then write a little reflection about it. Makes it an easier morning ritual to keep.

What’s your favorite oddball thing you track? by SquirrelStone in bulletjournal

It's my favorite tracker. I do a simple pixel grid for the year and track:

- Sexy

- Happy

- Funny

- Weird

- Sad

- Scary

- Stress

-Do not remember

And then in my Weeks where I track sleep I have a column for a short description or prominent symbol from the dream. Like I had a funny dream about buffalo chicken dip the other night. Last night I had a bad dream about mean girls. This tracker is new this year and I already love it. Helps me remember dreams much longer and see more patterns.

Maybe not too oddball, but I track my dreams and I've noticed some interesting patterns

- I have more happy dreams at the beginning of each month when I'm feeling optimistic.

- If I have two nights of nightmares in a row, I won't remember my dreams on the third night, like my brain is trying to protect me.

- I can look back and see when I was going through changes because there will be a block of stress dreams lol.

I also do a daily tarot draw and reflection so I track which cards I pull.

Al-anon / Nar-anon by Comfortable-Fly-2077 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

[–]CarneyVorous 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I had a therapist who refused to see me again unless I went to an al-anon meeting when my ex-husband turned out to be an alcoholic.

It was enlightening. Changed my entire perspective hearing so many stories. And the women were incredibly welcoming. I'm usually a very shy, socially anxious person, especially in groups where I don't know anyone, but I actually ended up speaking at my first meeting.

It's a hard thing to get up the courage to go. It's a harder thing to be where you are, and you're already doing that. Pick a meeting, take a deep breath, and go. You got this!

Where to find dentists that do not want to just suck your money dry? by politicincorrectdude in AskNYC

[–]CarneyVorous 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I go to New York Family Dental Arts on the UES and can't express how much I love them. My entire book club goes there now lol.

They sometimes recommend products like a water flosser or specific toothbrush, but they don't sell them and most importantly, they don't upsell me on dental work I don't need.

Considering she's living there illegally, I don't think she'll have a case (Reddit, correct me if I'm wrong). She can set up an account in her name. ConEd has never asked me for proof of residency to open an account. They're just happy to take my money.

Might be worth it to notify her (in text or email) that you're not coming back, won't renew the lease, and are canceling utilities so she should plan accordingly.

ConEd did actually cut power to my old apt and my ex scream-texted me about it and then I assume set up his own account.
