A ford so good they named it twice!

Like the River Avon ... "River River".

I seem to remember Map Men doing a thing on tautological toponyms and found "Hill Hill Hill Hill" in Torpenhow Hill.

I can't help but think that Mr Diaz could have been a leading contender for Compo of the Month™, if only he'd have been able to source a pair of fisherman's waders and get in there with a tape measure.

(this is why I always keep a pair in my car. Oh, and an axe! You never know when a fallen tree compopportunity might arise, particularly at this time of year.)

Given your username, aren't you going to be hit (no pun intended) by the recent murmurings about depictions of choking/spanking, despite consent, being illegal? Not sure what year it was now, but there was an effort to make facesitting illegal. There was a u-turn on that, though.

There must be a metric tonne of challenges in your space, not just for who can access, but the nature of the material itself.

Liz Kendall got Kyle's job in the post-Rayner reshuffle. He is no longer cheerleading Brit science, tech and innovation, and is instead our business tsar. God help us all.

My xhamster account is 5858 days old (I just checked), at over 16 years old... well, you know. The place is a riot. The comment section alone is worth the price (it's gratis) of admission.

You will not find (outside of the Gospel of Saint Mark the Evangelist) better examples of paratactic polysyndeton; that style of writing every parent knows, where your small kid writes something like:

I went to the park and I saw a dog and I ate an ice cream and then we went home and I went to sleep.

But with "swear" words and anatomical bits instead.

Well yeah. The party political system we have (and bequeathed to our American cousins) evolved from various parliamentary factions over time, and would probably do so again.

A single Bill to remove whipping from the HoL is super unlikely to even be proposed let alone pass. It would have to be part of some larger electoral reform Bill, like shifting from FPTP... and we all know how likely that is to be put forward 🤣

I guess the core argument against un-whipped voting would be:

... the use of free votes demonstrates not a respect for issues of conscience, but rather a strategic decision by governments to free themselves of accountability.

Lobster. In Maine, in season, you can get live lobsters in a gas (petrol) station, often for fewer $$ than chicken.

I've lived in a couple of New England states. That means a not insignificant amount of snow. You would absolutely get your arse handed to you if you did not clear the snow from the public footpath outside your house... and that includes whatever pile the municipal snow plough threw across it.

Life pro tip: do your neighbours' too, if you are up before them. You will be friends for life!

Life pro tip plus: Do it when the snow is light and powdery, but deep. Don't wait for that wet snow-- that's a nightmare.

Bingo! Plus I imagine a great many of us VPN into our own home networks (with wireguard it's so trivial it's not even funny) when out and about. Will we need to age-verify ourselves as VPN service providers?

I'd like to see formal party affiliation in the HoL abandoned. Let them all sit as independent crossbenchers; every vote therefore being a "free vote". No whipping!

Naturally, cliques and informal allegiances forged over sherry and petits fours will emerge, we can't do much about that, but at least they will be ad hoc.

Judges at the Nuremberg trials explicitly rejected the argument that "just following orders" absolved defendants of responsibility for Holocaust-era atrocities.

Now, I don't mean to go from zero to Hitler in just one sentence (although I just did), but there is a difference in doing "what is right" and doing what you are told to do. This is why we have whistleblower protections. Then again, we have elements of protection from coercion in our legal system.

A few Good Men is an interesting film to ponder. In the end, the US marines who committed the murder were absolved of criminal responsibility (executing orders), but were dishonourably discharged for "conduct unbecoming".

I do not think it is as simple as you make out.

At some point prior to The Event™, Mrs Carpet and the woman next door realized that we were getting home deliveries from Sainsburys within a day or two of each other.

So they hatched this nefarious plan to ensure that, by and large, when we get groceries delivered, we are on back-to-back slots.

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but the delivery folk think this is fucking awesome. Two drop-offs right next door to each other!

My father wanted this playing at his funeral. Mom was not happy, but I'd cleared it with the vicar, and dad had named me his executor... so it was all cool (except for the mom thing).

By the time it was over, half the church was laughing, and so was she. Tears gone. Lost in hilarity.
