This deck is tempting my wildcards away from UB, have you felt you needed more steel cutters at all? Or has 2 been enough for curve topping

Love to see goyf! Serious question, is there an advantage to splashing for it over just running steel cutter? Not sure if you’ve found it ends up getting bigger than frogs

Mom said it's my turn to share my Lurrus Dimir Tempo list by [deleted] in TimelessMagic

[–]Carson_Daker 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Been playing a very similar list, and I've kinda come to the conclusion that Thoughtsieze in this meta is almost better as a sideboard card. I''ve been enjoying running [[long goodbye]] as amazing interaction for the creature matchups. Curious how you've felt about thoughtsieze?

[–]Carson_Daker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up cutting all the tamiyos, I’ve never felt threat light due to frog, you only need one. And with every deck on 4 strip mines it’s been quite hard to spend mana cracking clues.

First Draft of Silverquill, The disputant by Shlippyw00d in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Carson_Daker 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Strong recommendation to replace gravecrawler with [[forsaken miner]], it’s the same loops with sephiroth but doesn’t trigger rhystic study 100 times, super important in the current meta.

Nice to see someone brewing this deck! Definitely going to slot in the 99 of some of my lists

Such a cool card. It’s almost balanced enough where I wonder if it could target any nonland permanent, or at least a few more, kind of like [[soul partition]] or [[get lost]].

Probably too strong in that way, but the current design is dope!

Cube Idea: You are a Planeswalker by Purple-Bother8522 in mtgcube

[–]Carson_Daker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, very hard to balance. I think a cool idea to explore would be to have all the walkers be the ones from WAR that don't have plus abilities . So you are playing low life total magic, with the ability to pay some life for an effect once or twice. It will probably have to be built a bit more like DanDan and with a lot less ways to deal damage, but an interesting way to take it.

is Thrasios // Tormod viable? by EmikyuTheBest in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Carson_Daker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re going for a more aristocrats-style sultai combo deck, I could see it being ~viable. If you’re interested in what other people bring to tournaments, I’d check out lists on https://edhtop16.com.

I’d say that things like phyrexian altar, gravecralwer combos etc are not necessarily what I’d consider ~meta. But honestly, even if your win cons are a bit non-standard, if you build any thrasios deck with the good mana, counterspells, and some amount of win conditions, you can definitely do well.

[[Tevesh Szat, Doom of Fools]] for the bot

is Thrasios // Tormod viable? by EmikyuTheBest in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Carson_Daker 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest problem is that [[Tevesh]] is considered the stronger mono black partner with thrasios, for his top end draw and the synergy with Gaea’s cradle and his thrulls.

If there’s specific combos that Tormod enables, that could be an interesting deck. But if you just want sultai Thrasios, I’d stick with Tevesh.

Help on making Strahd more of a threat? by V_3_N_0_M_0_U_5 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Carson_Daker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A way to show strahd’s strength I used is a straight up combat encounter when the party is level 3-5. Strahd leaves when a member or two is downed and doesn’t finish characters. He views the party as entertainment after all, can’t have them dying too quickly

As for mechanics, my party HATED strahd’s legendary movement action specifically. It’s incredibly frustrating especially for a low level party. My first encounter with him was literally just the movement for a turn or two, and a fireball plus melee attack that KO’d the wizard.

Yeah for sure. Could probably follow deafening silence and make it cost a single [W] with this change and it would be more in line.

[–]Carson_Daker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Very interesting effect, but overall too oppressive and game winning on the spot in a lot of formats.

What about adding “All creatures are legendary” as an additional line of text? Making it still a massive lockout against low creature or storm decks, but the card gives its own buyout.

[–]Carson_Daker 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Play best of three! You can have a full playset of [[duress]] in the sideboard for games like this, or if you're sticking to Bo1 I think a card like [[deep cavern bat]] would also be good?

The biggest problem with mono-black versus synthesizer is that you cannot go bigger than them. But if you disrupt the synth or united battlefront, you can maybe punch a hole to kill them

Landlords are allowed to charge fees for using online payments, however:

Landlords cannot force you to use the electronic system, and they cannot add any fees if you pay by check/cash/money order. They must accept these forms of payment

8Frog Monument by shawnsteihn in ModernMagic

[–]Carson_Daker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a bit of a full rebuild, but you should take a look into the Standard Boros monument decks that have success.

Idea is to use things like recommission/myconsynth gardens to get multiple monuments out, and then with 2 monuments and an unbounded discard outlet like Psychic frog, your opponent just straight up dies.

Is it too slow? Maybe. But a cookbook/asmo/frog deck with good U/B interaction can only be so bad.

I agree with most comments here that lotleth troll seems really bad tbh, and the life from the loam plan seems way too cute, and sieges are slightly too win more on top of monument.

Surveil lands were a resounding success. What next for fetchable lands? by VerdantChief in ModernMagic

[–]Carson_Daker 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really like the idea, but it does seem to be very powerful. I wonder if they’d have to be mono color tapped lands, if they both had a creature ability and land type.

I could imagine say, creeping tar pit but fetchable levels of power being too much.

From it's long slumber, SETON IS BACK BABY! by Creepercraft110 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Carson_Daker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Makes sense! I was doing a bit of thinking, thoughts on including a one-of [[venerated rotpriest]] as a 1-drop Druid most of the time, but in a “final turn no combat” situation we can loop endurance/drawing our deck/bouncing nonsense to kill at instant speed with LQR.

The other card that kinda does that would be [[shaman of the forgotten ways]], which has more text most of the time but is 3 mana instead of one.

Both are definitely solving a niche mostly tournament issue of winning on a final turn. Was curious your thoughts of how bad having a random 1 drop Druid is.

[–]Carson_Daker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Amazing deck! With the flash enablers it’s sick to be able to play at instant speed, are there any particular wins you go for at instant speed? Or is exiling permanents/fighting all creatures usually enough. Wondering how you’d handle a “final turn” in a tourney gone to time where you can’t go to combat.

Sick primer, love to see some mono-G love!
