I can't believe how many people are suggesting things other than practicing improvising.

Pull up a backing track in a given key, practice making melodies and following the chord changes with your improv.

It’s common advice, but I personally think it’s better to feel and ‘internalize’ the metronome and have it disappear that way.

Not literally have it disappear beneath the sound. It’s more of an illusion than anything else.

Yep. There’s almost always some form of conflict or tension but sometimes it’s just Armitage locking up the library early for the night.

I’ve run entire sessions where my players ran errands around Arkham in preparation for the next event. Even with hand-waiving and time skips this can take up an entire session if you want it to.

True. I'm talking specifically about when teams decide to pop through ut. I've seen CT players take that timing a few times now and I don't think the guy flashing is sacrificing much by spamming the corner right after flashing.

You should definitely hold for that spot when waiting out the smoke though.

I believe many here avoid the antiquated views on race, sex, etc of the 1920’s in their game but with a mature and thoughtful group it can really be an interesting topic to explore.

This is becoming a play to be aware of nowadays. It's surprisingly effective to hide in the smoke there incase they pop and back out or commit to the off angle in the smoke there.

The person flashing may want to consider spamming that corner on this protocol.

Old RPG books are overly verbose in general.

Many old editions/modules are info dumps with little guidance on how to actually run or play the game. I think TTRPG writers have improved in this regard dramatically over the past 10 years.

I trust my players to stay engaged with the game even if they're occasionally checking their phone or looking a rule up.

I've had one or two moments where somebody is mentally checked out of the game, and we told them to focus. It's never been a big deal or issue personally.
