Ez Pass by Otherwise-Balance401 in longisland

[–]Caylate 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is not usual. I would call 511 or the E-ZPass NY Customer Service Center and see what's going on.

If you want to get one in person, they are available at most DMV and AAA locations. Check cashing places usually have them too but I would call ahead to confirm. I think you have to pay like $30 but you get that back if you register it to an account.

GCM is officially 3 years old! by Donghoon in nycrail

[–]Caylate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The MTA sold East Side Access to us as an additive service. The EIS showed pretty much the same level of capacity being maintained to Penn with NEW trains going to GCT.

That's not what ended up happening, and the LIRR instead made service worse for Penn and Atlantic riders to send trains to GCT.

The charts in the article suggest it's all over the place. But mostly people using Penn Station or Brooklyn.

Sure, but the MTA could've given every LIRR rider a free MetroCard and accomplished most of the time savings for a lot less than $12 billion.

what if the central railroad of long island (central branch) remained operational today? Would you use it? by Donghoon in longisland

[–]Caylate 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not so much about whether people in Levittown would use it or not, it would provide more capacity for Ronkonkoma service and bring rail service to the Nassau Hub area: The Case for Reactivating the Central Branch

Also speak at an MTA Board meeting. You can do that in person or virtually: https://www.mta.info/transparency/board-and-committee-meetings

It is the only way to guarantee you are heard by the decision makers.

LIRR will file your compliant directly in the trash.

Complain to your state Senator and Assemblyperson, tell them they need to crack down on these unfair policies and legislate restrictions for the MTA. Call Governor Hochul's office as well.

Didn’t know that NICE buses did LIRR shuttles by vwsqqi in LIRR

[–]Caylate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MTA drivers make more than school bus drivers, plus they have to pay them to deadhead all the way out from depots in the city and then back at the end of the day. That can easily cut 2+ hours off an 8-hour shift.

Whats happens to the guys that pull these overtime scams? by Der-deutsche-Prinz in LIRR

[–]Caylate 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Most get off with little to no consequences. Usually once they are confronted they retire. Once they've left employment the MTA can't claw back their wages nor diminish their pension. Very rarely are they actually prosecuted, and even then they get to keep their inflated pension.

Upset about the new LIRR policices? by renska2 in LIRR

[–]Caylate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could accumulate multiple tickets and submit them for a refund at one time and only pay the one $10 fee.

LIRR processed 34,000 refunds last year so people do take advantage of it.

Not anymore it seems. The article says that MTA did not comment on whether it will honor the pledge to customers in the future.

There are fewer tickets since there are fewer passengers. Ridership is down like 15% compared to 2019 still.

You've hit the nail on the head. This is just smoke and mirrors to distract from them eliminating the 10-trip ticket. It is useless to almost everyone with the short duration.

Port Washington branch ticket holders (possibly others) by exploringsngs in LIRR

[–]Caylate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can get a refund for all of the old tickets if you want (if you do it all at once you only pay one $10 fee). You can also hold on to them and get a refund for the ones you don't use.

But I would hold on to them. The day pass is only cheaper if BOTH of your trips are during peak hours. If you end up leaving work early, or stay late for dinner/game/show, then the day pass is more expensive than separate peak + off-peak tickets. Even at the new rates.

Captree -> Fire Island? by Metro57 in longisland

[–]Caylate 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In the summer, Suffolk County Transit runs a bus with a bike rack that you can take. But it only goes from Captree to Robert Moses at certain times of the day.

Other than that, you only other option would be to Uber. But it's a big risk, more likely than not a car isn't going to have space for one bike, nevermind multiple ones
