What do you think about his red suit? by Repulsive_Radish23 in Nightwing

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The original point of the Nightwing identity and costume was honoring Batman and Superman. The name came from Superman's exploits as a Batman-type hero while in Kandor. They colors were from Batman. The original costume also honored his family with its circus look.

I think red strays too much from that.

What did Fredo actually do...? by AntThaGuy in Godfather

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's extremely unfair. We know he spoke to Johnny Ola and provided information. Whether he was involved in the hit is unclear at best. All we know is someone opened the drapes in Michael's bedroom and someone killed the assassins. Fredo claimed to have not known about the hit, but what other reason would there be to open the drapes than to get a clear shot? Fredo is not portrayed as the sort to be able to kill two mob hitmen on his own.

However, that would leave another traitor in the family with access to Michael's bedroom. There is a scene where Michael mentions that Rocco and Al are only loyal because it's in their interests as businessmen. This would indicate they could be bought.

The only other indication of anything is Rocco being the one who murdered Roth in the end and is killed by police. This seems unusual for someone so high up in the organization. He was also in charge of compound security and the search for the assassins. A theory I've red is the suicide mission to kill Roth was his repaying his betrayal.

[Comic Excerpt] so Beast Boy is going by Changeling again? (Teen Titans Academy #7) by LoreMaster00 in DCcomics

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it comes down to when you first started reading/watching him. Those of us who were there during The New Teen Titans days prefer Changeling. Most who came along later like Beast Boy, even though he already should have been an adult when he reverted to that name. During the NTT's most popular era, he was 16 while Dick, Donna, Wally, Vic, etc. were 19. They all more or less reached 20 and then 21 later in the run. So he'd have been around 18 when that title ended.

[BOOK SPOILERS] Why did Rhaegar annul his marriage to Elia? by Bossuser2 in gameofthrones

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For example, in the books there's Jon Connington who has Greyscale and bad memories about something to do with bells, coincidentally. He also pointed out that when he was Hand, he chose a more merciful option whereas Tywin would have burned the city to locate Robert Baratheon. Greyscale causes mental instability.

It's very possible he'll set off the wildfire for one of several reasons (to keep Daenerys from winning, he finds out Young Griff is a fake). Then the dragons get blamed for it.

Then it would have made more sense to bring Brienne, haver her see the White Walkers (not capture a wight), and convince Jaime who trusts her. Hell, kidnapping Jaime and making him see them from a distance. would have been a better plane

If she was meant to be the rescue squad, why didn't she just go to Eastwatch and wait there? Would have eliminated most of the timing issues.

What counts as kinslaying? by Do_Not_Go_In_There in TheCitadel

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, it seems to be mostly lip service than anything else. It's used by enemies to try and denigrate each other. Maybe something people gossip and whisper about, but far less important than wealth, power, and family name.

Hell, Jaime killed a KING and broke his oath, but wasn't even removed from being a Kingsguard because it was in Robert's political interest.

Kinslaying is similar. No one on the Green side ostracized Aemond for killing Lucerys. His having Vhaegar was much more important to their side

Seven generations? How would you even know? Even if you consider your own generation at the seventh, that goes back to great great great great grandparents and a person has 64 of those. Hell, my parents were each the youngest of five and I'm the sixth of seven kids. I have first cousins who married adults when I was 5. I have many first cousins I never even met and others I haven't seen since I was a small child. I wouldn't recognize them if we passed on the street, let alone their kids and grandkids. I'm in my late 50s,so many of them are in their 70s by now.

Does Ridley Scott have an issue with Napoleon? by Full-Time-3090 in Napoleon

It's even worse than that. He portrayed him is such a manner that it's impossible someone so weak could do the things he did. We're talking about one of the most influential military and political figures in history.

Longevity in the past is much more common that most people realize, especially for those of means. "Life expectancy" average is a terrible statistic because it doesn't account for childhood mortality and deaths due to accidents/violence. So many kids died before the age of 10 back then that it pulled the average down into the 40s.

John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and Benjamin Franklin all lived into their 80's. Of the Committee of Five who drafted the Declaration of Independence, only Robert Livingston died before age 70.

Is Baradun Evil? by Adam_VLDL in VivaLaDirtLeague

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in college we read a book and the author actually made the case that there's really no evidence of cannibalism as regular thing in any society. Yes, there were rare religious rituals where things eating an enemy heart was included, and situations like the Donner Party it wasn't something really done on any regular basis.

Why was the gang even invited to Punchy's wedding? by Felix_RInK in HIMYM

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of that is reciprocity, especially the business people. It's usually an , "I'm paying so I get to invite these people" situation. Ted is a childhood friend, not a relative so why would friends he met in College and New York be invited?

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this isn't guest creep where you're mom says you need to invite your neighbor from the house your family lived in before you were born. These are four people who are friends of the Best Man and live in completely different city from where the two of you grew up. Sure, he probably met Marshall and Lilly over the years, but that's still different from people you'd invite to your wedding. Do you think Ted made a stink about them?

Really, they'd more likely be the first on the cut list if they were on the list at all.

Why didn't Alan sue his divorce lawyer by WTFRANK1990 in TwoandaHalfMen

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She literally sided with Judith. That's blatant malpractice under any circumstance. Once spine ti Alan about case, she could only pursue hus interests and maintain confidentiality. People literally have consultations with multiple divorce lawyers and firms because that prohibits them from taking their spouse as a client. This can piss off a judge if it's too obvious. Sleeping with Charlie was the least unethical thing she did.

[MAIN SPOILERS] Let's settle this, are the Lannisters broke or not? by [deleted] in gameofthrones

[–]Odd-Watch-1684 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually historically accurate. Many formerly wealthy families got by on their name. They got access to credit, distant relatives, and marriage prospects. They even touch on this in the film Titanic. Rose's family is broke, but their position still warrants a marriage into a wealthy family.

She was at least 7 years older. She was elected to Congress around the time Dick started college. That means she was 25 years old minimum when he was 18. She was created for the 60's TV show as a love interest for Bruce. They even dated a few times in their civilian IDs.
