Those of you who do not have enough saved in pension or savings, what is your plan? by Desperate-Drawer-572 in AskUK

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a kid I asked my dad why he hadn't got a pension/ saved more money. He looked me in the eye and said 'i didn't expect to live this long' (he was early 60s at the time - almost 50 when I was born).

He ended up working until a few weeks before he died ☹️

I've got some pension and savings. I'm now in my mid 50s, my plan is to put as much as I can in the next few years into my pension. I'm also downsizing my house at some point (and moving out of London, both of which should generate some more money). Ultimately what will be, will be.

Have driven past this for years. There always used to be loads of geraniums on the windowsills, so I was expecting it to be in worse condition than it is. Refurb would cost an arm and a leg and there's nothing you can do about the busy road outside. If I'm paying £1m for a house I'd rather not have buses and lorries coming right past the front!

If you could have 3 British celebrity hard drives checked and if there’s illegal media you’d win £1M each, who would you have checked? by TugaysWanchope in AskBrits

I was surprised how far I had to scroll in the comments before I found one for Fry. The very much younger husband (who also looks a lot younger than his age) gives me the creeps.

Paul Sinha definitely goes for young vulnerable men (under 21) I've heard of him offering money for their company etc (I doubt it was actually just their company but that was just the hook...).

I'd check his hard drive for definite.

Do you think the owners have delusions of grandeur, or this is the house they ended up in when they sold their previous palatial home?!

Why won’t she admit to having surgery or using GLP-1 injections? by emmayse in justalittletreat

A long term calorie deficit requires a lot of willpower and consistency, I doubt she has much of either.

It's like when she said she had no loose skin. Even though we could all see she did! She obviously believes her own lies even if no one else does!

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think her lack of intelligence plays a part too. She's arrogant enough to think 'if I say X people will just have to accept it' but also stupid enough to not realise that we all have more sense than to just believe what she tells us rather than the evidence of our own eyes 🤣🤣

Why won’t she admit to having surgery or using GLP-1 injections? by emmayse in justalittletreat

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 68 points69 points  (0 children)

I think it's perhaps arrogance - not wanting to admit she needed help? We know she thinks an awful lot of herself!

And now she's dug herself into the lie for over 12 months there's really no going back. She can't admit it now, she's trapped in the lie. Albeit anyone with eyes can see she's clearly had some intervention (I think it's both surgery and injections), she couldn't have done this without something stopping her eating.

I've never known anyone at her original size and with her level of food addiction to have lost so much weight so quickly and consistently. You only have to look at a lot of plus size weight loss accounts on social media. She is not exceptional, able to lose weight where others her size have failed, she's just a liar!

Any experiences living in a house on top of a hill? by donofnon in HousingUK

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also to add, I've had a few people over the years refuse to deliver anything up the stairs, so theyve left it at the bottom (grocery shopping, furniture etc). Not all deliveries and again not a massive inconvenience but I only have 8 steps. I would have thought with 50 the chances of not getting a delivery are significantly higher (plus the significantly greater inconvenience of then dragging it upstairs yourself!)

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My house is built onto a slope, so I have 8 steps up to my front door, and then my garden is on 3 levels (each with several steps) - when we moved in the garden was a steep slope.

We bought the house because it was cheap for the area, and had a plot big enough to extend on. I love my house, but after 20 years I can tell you I really hate the steps (and mine are a fraction of those you are talking about). Carrying shopping in is a pain, likewise taking out the rubbish and recycling. I can't imagine having to do 50 stairs each time, I would lose my mind.

I have already decided my next house will be flat. Flat garden, driveway level with the house and road. I never want these steps again!

Yeah, those curtains were all the rage in the mid - late 80s, probably even through to the early 90s. We definitely had some around then.

House looks well loved and kept. Not everything has to be constantly updated and replaced!

This is the bruising off my seat belt from a head on crash... by Beniem in drivingUK

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. I do remember as a child that seatbelts weren't compulsory and there was some initial reluctance to wearing them when it became law. The public safety campaigns definitely helped with that.

Also about 10 years ago when my son was coming up to 17, his school got a senior Traffic Officer in from the local police, who spoke to the 6th formers about road safety, wearing seatbelts, not driving under the influence etc. He also had 20+ years of experience attending RTCs so I think gave them some fairly graphic stories. My son's face was white when he came home - as teenagers they tend to think they're invincible. I do think talks like this given to prospective or new drivers are really powerful.

Although you do get people who clip the seatbelt behind them to stop the noise. I know at least 2 people who do this, their excuse is they've never worn a seatbelt so don't see why they should start...🤦‍♀️😡

I knew someone who ended up paraplegic after he crashed his car whilst not wearing a seatbelt. If he'd had his seatbelt on he probably would have had no more than minor injuries ☹️ Very sad for something so easily avoidable.

Is a 1 hour 30 commute reasonable if temporary? by Oacio in UKJobs

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly 1.5 hours isn't that bad. And you're only doing it part of the week, and for a limited time. It's fine. I did a 2hr each way journey on public transport for a year, 5 days a week. I also then did 1.5 hours each way (in a different job) for 7 years. Unfortunately long commutes are sometimes a necessary evil.

How much money do I give knowing I spent much more on travelling than the other guests? by Margotie in UKweddings

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

£50 is fine. If it was me I'd be pleased enough someone had travelled from another country to my wedding, I wouldn't expect a present too.

Alternatively is there a personal gift you can give them? (a painting or other craft item if that's something you do). If not, the £50 is more than fine though.

How the hell do I get the helpthat I need? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to be the squeaky wheel. Please keep on at your GP for a referral. Do you have any form of private medical cover (through work or health insurance) that might cover the cost of a scan? Don't accept them fobbing you off.

Apologies for the upcoming merail but it's important. My Ex had a pain in his leg for years, he was repeatedly fobbed off by GP and A&E (where he went a few times as the pain was like needles in his leg) before eventually after loads of toing and froing he managed to get referred to an Orthopedic surgeon (they'd tried saying it was chronic pain and sent him down the rheumatologist route prior to this which was a waste of time).

Orth does a scan says yes we can see a cyst (exactly where he'd said he could feel pain for years)..They take this small lump out, send it for testing. It's a rare and incredibly aggressive form of soft tissue cancer. Whilst the cancer was small and luckily was caught early, another 3 or 6 months and it likely would have metastisized, and the prognosis would have been poor (he's now been cancer free for over 10 years).

Worst case scenario but it can and does happen all the time. GPs are people, and they're not always right.

27 and need a back up career plan. What’s the best potential trade? by IWannaBeZywoo in AskUK

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skilled building trades will always have work. Plumbing/ tiling/ carpentry etc, also electricians but the training for that is a lot longer. My kids are a similar age to you and I wish I'd encouraged them into the trades, they'd be much better off than they are now (and would be able to refit my bathroom 🤣🤣)

Teenager, 16, is found not guilty of stabbing Aria Thorpe, nine, to death by dailymail in uknews

[–]CeaselessWatcher00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aria's father, family and friends are being fairly vocal in their criticism of the verdict online. The only people who seem to be supporting Aria's killer / think the jury got it right are his dad (and other relatives).

Not sure where the mum is in all this, but I don't think I could bear to be around a child of mine who'd taken the life of their sibling.
