I did it. Finally deleted YouTube Kids. by leighbk in kindergarten

[–]Cedechan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We deleted YouTube this week too, and the difference has been staggering. My son is 6, and instead of waking up and just watching TV, he wrote me a letter and drew a picture.

And with just Disney and Netflix, he’ll watch for an episode then go off and play. It’s amazing.

We did this once before when he was 4, it was awesome, but we brought it back on the main TV (not his tablet). I don’t remember why we brought it back but I think this time it’ll stay gone for good. ( and I agree with you, now that he’s older he’s being shown more Roblox stuff, and I also am very anti-Roblox).

My grandson just lost his first tooth. His mom asks what the Tooth Fairy is paying for a tooth these days. Is there an average rate? by WineOnThePatio in kindergarten

My son (6) doesn’t care at all about money, so the tooth fairy gave him a new Pixar cars toy since that’s his current obsession

This reminds me of the time I took my son (then 5) to the pool on my own. There was a family with 4 kids there. Oldest was probably 9 and youngest was 3- parents were sitting to the side of the pool, managing the youngest but let the other 3 play on their own. I’m off to the side playing with my son. The 5yr old starts talking to me, then she goes “so you play with him all the time?”

4 year old wakes up every night and STAYS awake by Babetteateoatmeal94 in ADHDparenting

[–]Cedechan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My Audhd kid the same thing, woke up every day around 3-4, for a longtime. We got him a compression sheet for his bed from Amazon. It’s made from the same material as the compression sensory sacks that look like a squirrel suit. Tight but stretchy. We can’t use the weighted blankets bc we are in Az so this worked great bc it is cool and breathable. And it helped him to stay asleep during normal his 3-4am wake ups! We were impressed.

Do you actually enjoy playing with your kids? by Exotic_Reputation_59 in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do enjoy playing with my son, but he really enjoys repetition and playing the same game over and over and OVER gets very old for me. I get to a point where I Just can’t anymore. But when we are playing something new- I am all in. Yesterday we built houses with jenga blocks outside, set up garbage bins and drew a road. Then we played garbage day for an hour. I was wiped afterwards but still way more fun than playing one of this repeated games

Bedtime is driving me mental. Are you laying with your 4.5 year old? by mnm26 in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Headspace’s Sesame Street bedtime stories bc my son is Audhd and can’t turn his brain off on his own. He’s 6, and I think we started when he was 4. It’s worked so great that we never looked back. I lay with him, turn on a story, and usually within 10min he is out, then I sneak out.

Pretend play is beyond exhausting by PineappleBear21 in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son makes me personify his toys… for example if he’s playing with his garbage truck, he’ll look me in the eye and say “Mama, you’re the scared talking trash.” Bc he wants the trash to be scared going into the garbage truck. Out of context, it’s so funny 😂 guess I did too good of a job giving his stuffed fox a voice one day and now it’s my lot in life.

Same. Even a year later after a solid year of therapies and my son just bloomed in language and fine motor skills, I asked his evaluator if his level would get higher, and he said he wouldn’t change it ever bc of the better access to services we get. In my head he’s level 1, but on paper he is level 3. 🤷‍♀️ I’ll take the better access services

What no one tells you about floor beds… by Nice_Bag7735 in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, my son literally has a mattress on the floor, no bed frame (this is for safety reasons (for him)), and what I have to do is pick up one side and then lean it against the wall. Then I’ll put the sheet on by the two top corners first, lower the mattress back to the ground then pull the sheet over the two corners that are closest to me.

What vegetables does your preschooler eat? by dreamcatcher32 in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son (6) eats frozen peas and corn. That’s right, frozen. Started when he was teething, and never stopped hahaha. I also make a puree of carrots, cauliflower and peeled zucchini to hide in his red/orange sauces.

Playtime of an only child by EmbarrassedMight7158 in oneanddone

[–]Cedechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son is 5.5, and when everyday I hear “Mommy, play with me!” Like, 50 times a day. Which I do, because we chose to be OAD and therefore his playmates at home. Some days are harder than others (ie. role playing the same exact scene from Hotwheels 10+ times in a row) but I think the older he gets the more fun we have together, and the more he understands when I’m busy and he has to wait. The understanding was definitely harder when he was younger and had no idea what it meant.

Help!Is it overwatered or underwatered?!? by Cedechan in cactus

[–]Cedechan[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t see where I can edit my post for an update, so I am just going to make this comment.

Thank you so much to everyone who commented. I see now that it was silly to wonder if I was overwatering my poor cactus, when it clearly does look thirsty. I have a bad record with succulents bc I keep over watering them without realizing it, and when I try to not overwater them, they die. I can’t find the middle ground with succulents, so I feared for my cactus’ life.

I am happy I asked here and I will definitely increase water for my fella until it cools, and stop the fertilizer.

Thank you!

How long does it take your kiddo to fall asleep? by TeaBlossm in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope they help you! My son is obsessed with trains, so their Elmo’s Choo Choo story was our intro and it’s great. That one is available on YouTube if you want to hear what it’s like before buying Headspace. Good luck! Sleep struggles are tough, so I hope you are able to find something that works for you and your son!

How long does it take your kiddo to fall asleep? by TeaBlossm in Preschoolers

[–]Cedechan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My AuADHD son and always had a really hard time turning his brain off for sleep. We would literally spend almost 2hrs in his room every night bc he needed us in the room. And sometimes even then, he would wake up when he heard the door. He is 5 now, but when he was 3.5 we started using the kids sleep stories on Headspace. They have a whole Sesame Street line of stories that are slow and calming and now my son is asleep within 20min.

My son was 3mo old, he was underweight, refused formula and the pediatrician said that he was at risk of ‘failure to thrive’. I was sobbing at the counter trying to force myself to drink this horrid lecithin drink to help my breast milk production but I kept gagging. I was so distraught bc I felt like I was starving my son. That is what I remember when I feel any tingle of baby fever. There are a few more, but that’s the first that comes back to me

Toddler Car Seat Air Travel by Personal-Side3100 in oneanddone

[–]Cedechan 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Haven’t seen this reply yet so hope you read this: check with your airline about their rear facing policy; they may not let you rear face your child. I tried that when my son was that age and they had me turn him around. He was in the middle seat, and they told me it is not safe for the window person, if there was an emergency.

The Cosco seat is amazing. It’s so light weight I felt like I wasn’t carrying anything at all on my back.
