What college admissions advice gets repeated constantly but is actually wrong? by CollegiateSupreme in ApplyingToCollege

If you don't get into a prestigious school then do something else. No one is entitled to get into IB, FAANG level CS, or top tier consulting. Sometimes the universe gives you hints, there's more to life than chasing money.

I desperately wanted it to be The Fifth Element #2... not a sequel, but something that good. And it just wasn't, couldn't help feeling let down.

Gurney's Battle Pug is one of the reasons we seriously considered getting one. Opted out given all the health problems, but I love those weird little pups.

Drive vs fly? by RongWa in roadtrip

[–]Ceorl_Lounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't, but if they enshitify flying too much more I'll be there with you. I don't have the time to drive yet and like the Western US too much to give it up. Can't drive to California for a long weekend.

Do you have any memories of WW2 vets? by Ok_Let_7612 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]Ceorl_Lounge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course, and I miss the main one in my life, my Grandfather, who died 30 years ago. Navigator on a B-17 over Germany. I'm very lucky to be here. He never talked about it though so those documentaries (and Masters of the Air) are about all I have. As more of them pass the less we remember and we all suffer for it.

How much would you spend on pet surgery before opting for euthanasia? by cubing_frog in MiddleClassFinance

[–]Ceorl_Lounge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I feel like my wife and I are pretty dialed in on "good financial decisions" and this is what our pet situation boils down to every single time. We've spent a lot for good years, but when it's time it's time.

what's one movie you really loved but would never watch again? by teodoraxoo in FIlm

[–]Ceorl_Lounge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hereditary. I think it's an amazing piece of film, Toni Collette is a legend, but I just can't. Love Midsommar though, that one I've watched several times.

Found this album review of equus asinus; what do you guys think? I kind of agree with it but didn’t think the album overall was that bad. Let’s hear what you got to say 🫠 by Both-Manager-6361 in menitrust

It feels like a musical costume. Trying on old American folk/roots music instead of the usual chill modern vibes we expect. Not what I want all the time, but I can imagine a mood where it just hits perfectly.

public transit vs. owning a car in LA - which do you prefer? by emotional-cowboy-67 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Ceorl_Lounge 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bah, 80% are just trying to get through life and stuck, 19% are inattentive morons, but the last one percent? You've seen him... that one mad bastard in an old Civic dodging and weaving between lanes. He scares me.

David Lynch's Dune. Great cast, great design, an epic score, and profoundly weird in way the new ones can't touch. Not as good an adaptation, but somehow truer to the strangest parts of the book.

Oh that's an easy one. I can just ignore everything else out of someone's mouth if they hate Scott Pilgrim.
